He's way way better than our bottom 6 regulars. Play him off the bench getting used to the new team plan( assuming thete is one of course) Geez give him Weids number Quote
whatwhat say what 23,852 Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 he'd be our #1 rotation mid in 2023, just like he was at geelong in 2022 but i love that he's retiring a champion of the game as reigning premiership skipper 1 Quote
dimmy 1,308 Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 I don't think the Cat will change his fur !! He is too heavily invested in Geelong and plus,is entering a new phase in his life . I do not think he is foxing for an opportunity. 1 Quote
grazman 7,539 Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 Travis Boak would be the one whose manager I’d be talking to right now - likely to retire after next season. 4 Quote

He has a smart footy brain. Coaching is about results, not playing career. The Giants forward half has been a shambles for a few seasons. Why do we want Stevey J? Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,679 Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 Looks like Wayne Carey might be available next year - forwards coach ??? 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐 3 Quote

He could definitely help out Sam Weideman how to play as a forward. The only question is would Wayne Carey be able to behave himself? 😇 1 Quote

As for sharp brain...I think he's great a stating the obvious but like most of his generation adds nothing of interest when commenting on the game. Consultant, give me a break. The last time he did that we got Neeld. I am Over that and forgiven Gary and he is not coaching players but acting with MC and Coaches on tactics etc plus selection. He us not there to add interesting comments but for tactics and footy smarts Perfect if you listen but you say it's staying the obvious. Well the other selectors/ Coaches don't always get it right on match day especially. 1 Quote
jayceebee31 768 Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 I think Gary Ablett jar would be an ideal coach either mid or forward.Or at least a development coach. 2 Quote

biggestred 5,311 Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 Whats stevie J up to? We need a new forwards coach 1 Quote
DubDee 26,673 Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 Hopefully Yze has some new ideas for the midfield next year. It’s our strength but we don’t turn it into scoring chances enough imo. How are we not dominating clearances?? 2 Quote
The heart beats true 18,201 Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 Why do people think a great player automatically makes a great coach? Have you not worked with people who have extraordinary craft or technical skills but couldn’t coordinate others, let alone inspire them? It’s not a playing/coach role. It’s a very technical job that also requires great people skills, a passion for working with young people, and a lot of media training. 4 Quote

BDA 23,048 Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 We need experience. I'd look at recent senior coaches such as Rutten and Cameron. Or perhaps try to poach Leppitsch from the pies And if we insist on recently retired players why not try Nathan Jones? 1 Quote
Supreme_Demon 4,136 Posted October 14, 2022 Author Posted October 14, 2022 There will definitely be a few possible coaches available! Joel Selwood? Mark McVeigh? Brett Ratten? Nathan Jones? James Hird? A lot will also depend upon who ends up getting the recently vacated St. Kilda coach position? 🤔 1 Quote
PaulRB 6,435 Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 With the new job as coach opening up at the Saints, we may still lose Adem... hopefully not. 1 Quote
DeeSpencer 26,670 Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 With the soft cap rising I hope we’d be looking at making a coaching hire even if Yze stays. Ratten would be a great pick up. The Casey gig might go back to full time. Sam Radford in the role again? I like the idea of giving recently retired players some part time coaching because you get to learn fresh things and they provide energy. You aren’t hiring them for technical coaching skllls. No idea if they’re interested in coaching but Shane Edwards, Kane Lambert and Jarryn Geary are three I’d sit down with. 2 Quote
Supreme_Demon 4,136 Posted October 16, 2022 Author Posted October 16, 2022 I definitely agree that any recently retired AFL player who has a passion for coaching should at least be considered. In my view I would be giving Brett Ratten a call and seeing if he is interested in possibly taking on an assistant coaching role at the Demons (again). Especially, if we end up losing Adem Yze to the Saints. 1 Quote
Wodjathefirst 2,671 Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 If Yze goes then definitely consider getting Ratten back. As much as I would like Yze to stay he definitely wants to move up in the world of coaching. Unfortunately, this must have some sort of destabilising impact on the players / coaching team. 1 Quote
Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 I reckon Ross Lyon has got the Saints job over the line so no point Yze even applying, in terms of strengthening our coaching, i think we do need to look at a change up in our offensive ball movement and forwards coaching. Nick Reiwoldt would be worth a call, even part time, he sees the game so well and i think would really help our forwards with their craft, leading patterns and working as a team 1 Quote
