Umpires in last quarter

50 against Pickett up other end goal

soft holding to McStay - goal

Bailey pushed Hunt square in middle of back - goal

Andrews chops Brown arm 15 metres out - no free

just to close out game umpire free against Lever not being tackled and 5Om to gift it

Umpires pathetic influenced result

Gotta say, I really hate the umpire excuse. I hate it when all teams use it, but I especially hate it when we use it. Should have buried the game in the first quarter. Should have kicked another 5-6 goals easily throughout the game.

We let them get easy goals at the ends of quarters. There’s the game right there.

We absolutely choked and all ire should be directed at us for many reasons.

Lost it at selection

Yep. Full blame surely must rest with selection committee.

Going with the same team after being comprehensively bested the week before was flawed.

Why is our key backman already our best full forward?

If I made the mistake /kryios tantrum like Lever (with the $$ he is on ) I would be sacked  from my job. Inexplicable.lack of discipline  by Kozzie, Lever and a couple of other incidents.

Keep May,Petty, Oliver, Viney,Brayshaw , Petracca ,Gawn & ANB (Effort plus) . Their efforts were fantastic but were let down  by brain fades. I hope some people recognise that they owe the MFC

We MUST have more variety in the Forward line !!!

If Jackson leaves we might be better off.  How can you be a third year AFL player who can’t take a one grab mark? He might as well take Rivers with him. Bowey is far better.

Not if we waste a pick on Grundy.

That was not lost by game plan or selection or coaching. That was lost through atrocious kicking (again), poor decision making in close (again), and 2 x 50m penalties (again).

Absolutely this. Re kicking, there was a passage in the 3rd quarter where for 4 or 5 shots on goal we managed a couple of OOB on the full and a couple of points.

Means very little but my god that game had some of the worst non calls for HTB I think I’ve ever seen.

Cats would’ve belted us, and likely will do the same to the Lions, so that’s all I’m taking solace in.

Hopefully JVR plays Round 1 next year.

i’m sitting here at the G after that.

apart from being pretty upset, I am furious that Goodein failed to do anything about the dysfunctional forward line. it’s been evident from the Queens birthday game. and it took until the game was lost for him to put someone (Petty - kicked one and gave away another) up there.

Dam now we'll never know Tom would have gone next week.

Cannot believe I was walking past Melbourne supporters clapping them off.

If Sparrow is in our side round 1 next year we're finishing 12th

Shhh.. they'll bring back James Jordan, the world's slowest man over 10 metres.

Amazing depth.

absolutely Out Coached in the second half,     too many times that it has happened this year,   Jackson is he going , is he staying  should have been decided    too much of a distraction,,    finally moved Petty forward,     just too late and Smith  still unused  that's plain BS    Win 10 straight,     then out of the finals in straight sets    something smells,   I need a break,   Am I disappointed    Yes .

BBB   is not the answer ,   not without help  when Petty went forward  it was different. And brain fades by May last week and Lever this week     .....FFS

The usual second-half fadeout. Outrun by fitter opponents.

Incredibly woeful  kicking at goal. How many actually finished out of bounds?

Same old bombing into forward packs with the customary result.

Salem a mere shadow of the player he once was.

Pickett -- couple of magic touches, utterly useless for the rest of the game.

Fumbles and  missed passes galore.

Goodwin, unable to think on his feet and change tactics, totally outsmarted by Fagan..

Please just let Jackson go and get the best deal we can.

Spargo, Melksham and Neal-Bullen a long way from premiership-winning material.

Sadly, our straight-sets exit was richly deserved.

Bitterly, bitterly disappointed.  Gutted! Heartbroken!

I do not want to hear Goodwin or the club come out with the Geelong excuse from last year about injuries or illnesses.

They are reasons but not excuses. For 2 weeks we have given up a lead

2 weeks?

Try about 7 over the course of the year.

Putrid effort. Absolutely soulless and weak.

See you next year, Landers.

Good bounce back game from ANB, didn't see it coming

Petty just huge

Again it's evident we need more runners & classy ball users as much as another key forward option. Two of the worst games you'll ever see from Sparrow & Rivers tonight

Geelong and Sydney are very beatable. We legitimately gifted away a flag this year.
We have the best list with the worst coach. Same loss for the last 4 months.

This season has been just freaking foul. Truly like watching a car crash in slow motion. We are seriously the most boring team to watch in the comp. Brisbane are probably the worst tram to ever make a prelim and we let them do it. How embarrassing.

Who's your answer then? An untried kid who's been inconsistent even at Casey (but hopefully will be great in the longer term) or Mitch Brown?

We had 22 shots on goal (more than them), not counting a few OOB on the full which were aimed in the general direction of the goals -  that should be enough to win a game of footy.

Not saying we don't need to look at what's going on with the forward line, but you can't lose your main tall forward/CHF and that not have consequences.

Inside 50 entries killed us.

No variation. No cross ground thought.

We lost. Brisbane didn't win. They will be smashed my geelong.

All of our losses have come through choking leads this year.

Even in games we won we rarely put the foot down and actually went on with it, we always left the door ajar for opposition teams.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
