Yes, was mentioned on SEN just before.

On a serious note, they should not have brought in Fullerton and stayed small. That was their chance to get behind us with Cameron letting loose.

It should help us.

They have a relatively inexperienced ruckman (Fort) with McStay as a backup.  McStay will spend less time as a forward and with Daniher out it further weakens their fwd line.  It leaves only Hipwood as a recognised tall forward.  Without Oscar Mc they really don't have someone to back up behind the ball as Adams is still out.

I wouldn't be surprised if they play to a short forward line and hope to catch out our tall defenders who are said to 'panic when the ball hits the ground'.  A risk for LIons to make such changes to their game plan but they have nothing to lose.  And it might just work.

Such a change would possible surprise us but fortunately, we know early enough to make adjustments to match ups and defensive positioning.

I'm surprised and shocked on two counts.

1. Someone found Daniher attractive enough to do the deed

2. Daniher was accurate enough to "kick a goal."

Helps us with our intercept game.

Good on you joey. Special time to be there with your wife. I'm sure there is sections that will have a go at him about this but some things are bigger than footy.

I would have thought so too, especially if it ends up greasy.

Daniher out means they will play fast corridor football instead of their slow high marking game.

What game style do we fail against most often?

He won the game for them last week

Not really, kicked the last goal, gave away a free when McCarthy had a simple set shot.  Apart from the last goal he had a pretty forgettable game.

Yeah I was kind of hoping for long balls to Daniher..

Fair enough, good luck to Joe.

A fair point on the brisbane boards - why announce it now and not as a late out just before the game? Allows us to plan somewhat , its a big change after all regardless of what you think of him as a footballer.

People over 2m tall are pretty hard to hide. If Daniher was already in Melbourne and has to fly back to Brisbane, it would be impossible for someone not to notice. And if he has stayed in Brisbane, someone would have noticed that he hadn't travelled.

Interesting use of tense, Sisso. (I’ve noticed this trend lately on Demonland. Frankly, drives me crazy.) But yes, they’re only in it because of his last kick.

Fair point but news seems to have come directly from the club.  Anyway, apparently they have brought in a tall regardless , I have no idea who Fullarton is.  Kent Kingsley anyone ?

McInerny and Daniher out leave the Lions light on for experienced talls, provided its not going to p*** with rain tonight should be a fair advantage to us....talls are often very important in finals

sorry im a computer nerd not an English professor!

Even with his brain fades and May's good record on him, Daniher is still averaging over two goals a game this year and is always capable of a match winning effort like last week.

I much prefer him out of the team than in.

Good, brave, right call by Joe.

Big out. Joe can be terrible but can also turn a game around in minutes

Our big 3 at the back should now dominate and we can plan to rely on those intercepts and spread / rebound hard.

hard to see the Lions winning now

Hopefully Goody tells the boys to avoid ‘trying’ in December

Joey got his timing all wrong

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
