I think Melksham holds his spot. His disposal let him down on the weekend not his general play.

NO WAY

we slaughtered them when we played 3 quarters of football. i dont think we will get away with only playing 3 quarters again. I just hope our players dont get ahead of themselves, this will be tough they will come at our players hard and will try to crush oliver. we need everyone playing well,

Not sure that any of the changes being suggested here will change the result one iota (or would have changed the result on Friday night). It's about how we play, not who we play. OK, maybe some tinkering at the edges, but if we don't put it together a bit better than we did against the Swans, then we'll set ourselves a task.

But especially in finals, I feel that changes are about roles, structure and match-ups. Joel Smith for Salem could be one if we want more height and athleticism down back. Tom Mac for someone if we want the two-talls forward so that we can free up Gawn/Jackson to stick to rucking.

Wing is another issue, though that's more reorganising who we have out there (though god knows who/how), I can't see us bringing in Baker.

If TMac was closer to full fitness, I'd be bringing him back for Melksham. But we can't afford to play him when he's spent so long out of the game. Particularly given the odds of us playing an under-fit Petracca will be high (he'll declare himself fine to play and the coaches won't go against his word).

He has to come in Titan, i would rather roll the dice with him in the Semi against Brisbane give him the game he needs in a quicker paced game and correct our structure.

Not sure our list is all it is cracked up to be. A few great players, but several pretty mediocre ones. And some of our better players have major flaws...ie. Brayshaw's substandard disposal. Timid selection and the failure to regenerate the team by trying a few new players, and instead rewarding mediocrity, hasn't helped. Thank God for Oliver.

All teams have mediocre or average players, hence the salary cap.

Frankly, I'd like to see some personnel change.

We've been incredibly inconsistent for the entire second half of the year and I've remained annoyed like others that Goodwin has simply refused to blood players that have been in form at VFL. Chandler for instance. Is he the stiffest bloke going around?

What happened to rewarding form?

I believe the club and supporters will get a kick out of changing some things up this weekend.

Brisbane just had a debutant and look at what happened?

I'd love to see JVR get a gig and bring Bowey and Chandler in. We need a shake up, it's just all too boring and vanilla atm and the 22 need some excitement and a rev up.

Make it happen Goodwin.

The key change we need to make is to play long and boring around the boundary. The Lions are missing their best ruckman. Minimise the number of bad turnovers and strangle them.

Change? We’ve done that all year!

I am more concerned we lose this match than i was before round 23.

I reckon now that they have won a final they'll view this match, on our home deck and at long odds to win, as a free hit and play more relaxed.

And I feel like we are under more pressure.

This is exactly how i’m thinking.

We need Gawn to channel his inner Garry Lyon and “dee”liver another big captains game like he did in the prelim last year!

We have clearly been more attacking the last two games. It worked beautifully the first time but it has cost us against Sydney with turnovers.

Gotta disagree on that point.

For the last 2 games.

I haven’t watched the replay pf the QF yet, but live we didn’t look to take many risks ( i was level 1 on the wing).

If Goody has refused to change up our personnel throughout the 2nd half of the year, then he sure as hell wont change it out of the blue for a cut throat elimination final.

Goody's stubbornness has gotten the better of him this year. Incredibly disappointing.

If Tmac is still too risky I’d give Joel Smith a crack at Melksham’s role.

The way Melksham carries himself on the field is so depressing to watch.

And Bedford for ANB.

Let us not disrespect the Lions

they will be out to win and are still a quality side with a quality coach

Yep they'll be out to burry 2 bunnies (us and the MCG) and advance to a prelim

Medical advise doesn't sound all that positive for Petracca.

Yeah, he has his 22 and it’s ride or die.

ANB for a tall or a pressure forward in form is but a small change yet too large for those with a set mind.

We wait for summer for change…

Remember when Fyfe tried to play thru a ‘hairline’ fracture years ago?

Didn’t end well.

Petracca shouldn’t play against Brisbane.
Bring in Dunstan.

The only thing that the Lions have to do is apply pressure. 4 quarters of relentless pressure and then play their own style. It’s how to beat us…

Perhaps wait until the season's over before writing obituaries?

Goody's "stubbornness" has seen us sit inside the top 4 for 44 straight rounds and finish top 2 twice, win a flag and currently be in a semi final.

Ah yes, it's so easy!

I suppose that's why we finished a lowly...*checks notes*...2nd on the ladder...

FFS, statements like this are so ridiculous. If any of the 17 sides applies "4 quarters of relentless pressure" they'll likely win. But when was the last time Brisbane did that?

Injury clouds over Trac, Spargo, Fritsch and Melksham.

Make no mistake. Winning it from here will be an incredible achievement.

That’s not a cloud over Petracca, that’s a thunderstorm

Luke Dunstan had a blinder in the reserves, surely he can backup if Tracc is out? Is there room for TMAC to come in and straighten us up?

Why is it so ridiculous? Explain why else we lost against the Swans, cats and Pies? We cannot cope with the pressure.

Whether the Lions can do it is another thing - granted - but it is plain for everyone to see, like it or not.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
