Yep, spot on. Has hurt us all year, that the “premiership” team couldn’t create an environment that helps us win games. Just a run on the mill club rather than a Ess, Coll, Carl etc

Yep, the supporters cost us the game, players couldn't get motivated because the supporters didn't yell loud enough. LOL

Anyone know what the crowd size was tonight. Sounded like there were more Sydney fans there as will.

78k.

Sydney seemed far more loud unfortunately.  The boos for Harmes was pretty evident while there was crickets for Franklin from our end..

Was at the G tonight,  siting around a lot of Dees supporters who were very very quiet. Even the supporters were flat, sounded like a lot more Sydney supporters there

The Dees fans around me were cheering and getting behind the team

The Swans fans were not louder than us until the last quarter when the game was done

I don't get this Dees fans are quiet line.

Yes, but it's not as if the whole team has been on a roll for 6 weeks and this is just a blip. The players who didn't play well have not been playing consistently well for some time now, so the realistic chance of them "turning it around" are slim in my opinion.

Nice to believe in miracles, but in this case ...

Its a tough pill to swallow isn't it?

Especially as this is essentially our best team. However I doubt Viney, Brayshaw and Petracca play that poorly again this year.

Petracca was clearly hampered. I can't explain Vineys game without watching a replay. He has been incredible all year and looked like a player going through the motions tonight.

I didn't say Gus single-handedly cost us the game.

Will be interested to see the scores from turnovers though, was a factor tonight.

Also, we had more marks inside 50, yet they had twice as many tackles inside 50.

Sydney had 11.4.70 from turnovers when I left with 3 minutes to go. 2 from stoppage. We had 5 or 6 from stoppage I think and only 2 or so from turnover.

Steven May is a star. That was an absolutely thorough towelling, the only way Franklin could get in to the game at all was when he flopped, twice.

He and Oliver were immense.

That is the biggest thrashing of Buddy I have ever seen.

Buddy had 3 possies late into the last quarter and they were all gifts from the umps.

The whole game had a weird vibe, every possession was under pressure and the connection to the forward line was not there. Simply beaten by a better team, not even angry or upset, it is what it is.

Sydney fans embarrassed us, we let our team down.

If we're going to come back, we add least need to act as the home crowd!

He really was. One of only a handful who stood out.

The inboard kick to Hunt who was 1 on 3 really cost us though - it feels like we keep asking them to be bolder but when they are, there’s too much of that sort of stuff costing us goals.

People commenting on crowd noise need to include a disclaimer if they were not there. Comments like “Sydney crowd seemed louder” just sounds like you were not there and have NFI.

Same, but I say that for metal in general.

So do I really!

Say what you want, but I maintain we are a better team away from home because the young dad's are away from their kids. It's no coincidence to me that Viney, lever and melksham in particular play poorly at home. They ain't sleeping.

(This is coming from a place of vast, significant experience btw). Our best players are the Childless - May, Oliver.

Absolutely. It helped however that Franklin is basically useless now. It almost felt sad watching him, and the nonsense he was trying (and May fell for!) because he just can’t play proper footy anymore. Still, we would’ve lost by more if he hadn’t been playing, so there’s that.

The ball came out of our forward 50 to easy, you play a small forward line you need intense forward pressure, none of that tonight.

We need a second tall forward not a ruck forward, Brown needs to be close to goal not pushing up high.

Credit to Sydney, looked like we would blow them away in the third they lifted and broke us.

Whatever this new inboard kick is from the 50m defensive arc needs to stop. Both Gawn and May cost us 4 goals from it.

It doesn’t open the game up and it hurts too much on the rebound. Kick it long or only explore this as an option when you’re two kicks from defensive goal.

New, and really poor strategy.

Hawks somehow when to Perth twice in the 2015 finals and won the flag.

Richmond lost their 2020 qual final.

Pretty sure West Coast and Sydney lost their qualifying finals in 2006 and 2005 respectively.

I think that's when we lost it. It was so, so, so undisciplined. May owes us big time.

May owes us jack [censored].

Agree,

If that's the Strategy, play Salem and Bowey on the corners all night

Tonight walking out of the ground I just felt really sorry for Melbourne supporters. Last year was something truly special and we didn’t get to see it, and share it together.

That's the overriding feeling for me too

For mine, best long term result would be to lose against Brisbane so we can have a decent break, freshen up mentally and physically and be primed to attack next season.

Why didn't we just start tanking in Rd 15, so at least we could pickup some better draft picks?  FFS

We've worked our butts off all season, finished 2nd and earned the double chance.  I'll admit we're not exactly cruising but no way am I throwing in the towel yet.  Still pleanty of oppertunity to have another crack at a flag.

At least May is a decent kick and would usually make it. But why Maxy is trying to hit that kick is absolutely beyond me

Beaten by a better hungrier team, simple as that. Their pressure was off the charts.

It was actually a great game of footy for 3 quarters, great atmosphere. Nobody likes losing but you have to credit Sydney, they were great. We were sloppy at times but played some good footy too.

The Buddy dive turned the game, awful, disgraceful decision.

Mate you need goals to fuel the energy, [censored] me Melksham wasting all those goals. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to scream like a madman only to be disappointed by the butcher Melksham

Just on Sydney, you've got to admire them. They're incredibly well drilled and disciplined.

They're not a team full of superstars but they have everyone buying into team defence and structure and simply get the job done.

They have some impressive youngsters coming through. They're set for the next few years.

I really hope they win the flag over Geelong/Collingwood.

They can get stuffed with all the academy free hits they get. Heeney, Mills, Blakey, Gulden who else? Stuff em.
