Just listened to Clarko press conference, He is an intelligent operator and will be great for North on and off the field. He mentioned he talked to Essendon out of respect he had with some people associated with them such as Tim Watson, but 4 days was never enough to decide on going to a footy club and that they where to late in their approach. Bombers have messed this up on so many ways and it's glorious to see

Yeah and they knifed the previous guy to get him in!!

You watch North get a priority pick after their first round pick.  Clarko would already had this conversation with AFL, will be either pick 2 or at the very least after first round.  He built Hawthorn on early draft picks which included a few priority picks.

I see no reason Clarko cannot coach Norf, Essendon and GWS simultaneously. Others have pulled off much greater feats in the recent past.

All I would say to North is beware of false prophets. Blight, Pagan and Malthouse comes to mind.

against that I remember well when Barassi went there in 73 and they, using the newly adopted 10 yr rule, became a powerhouse fr a decade. Which is to say, occasionally a messiah is the real deal. Clarko feels pretty real to me.

Just show because you may kick a goal corporately does not mean you should be let near a footy club. That interview was downright embarrassing. Board are made up by many business types who have no clue about footy.

Can someone tell me why the love for North. We didn’t beat them for nigh on ten years. I have enjoyed our recent encounters may they long continue.

Well that’s true, but then we had Barassi to the Dees. Arguably he set us up for the Northey years, but that may well be revisionism. Hiring coaches who have had their time in the sun often turns out poorly.

An Essendrug Clown just called in to SEN and said he wanted Hird back as The CEO

They really are obsessed….

I would bring him back as senior coach, president, CEO, head of Football, marketing and HR manager. This used to be unprecedented, but not now.

Totally agree.

The key will be not telling the fans, boards, media (except some anointed inside the tent types), the AFL (expect the Chairman of the AFL Commission, who will need to sign it all off) and his assistant coaches at North, Essendon and GWS.

It will of course come out in time, but then he just needs to apologize to all those people - except the fans of course.

Love the way he says we want to learn about what Geelong, Richmond and Collingwood are doing well.

To find out how they can "turn things around", he's not going to ask us.

I found that very interesting as well. Arguably we have been a basket case & then won a premiership…you would think we’re the first club he’d speak to. Again I think it harks back to an amazing lack of respect by the media in general to the reigning premiers.

I think it’s great. He will consign them to another 5 years of misery and mediocrity.

This is a thread about Clarkson and North.

Keep your anti-Trump obsessions to yourselves please. It's a thread killer.

Well I've got a couple of tips for them:

1.  Don't have a drug scandal where 42 of your list and coach are banned from footy for a year.

2.  Don't sack your coach (but don't tell them they're sacked) while you chase another coach.

3.  Maybe have a conversation with the coach that you are chasing to see if there's any chance of him coming over after he's been courted for four weeks by another club before you telegraph it to the media.

3.  Don't have Kevin Sheedy on your board.

... but by all means reappoint James Hird as your coach and maybe get Jobe Watson in as an assistant to help with communication.

We certainly learned a lot this week didn't we?

Hird to the bombers is like Trump to the Republicans. Doesn’t matter what he says or does…he’ll be the one to “rescue them”. He’ll do nothing but polarise the club and everyone within it. “I see a bad moon arising “ But in the bombers case it does bring a smile.

You nailed it, he’s even orange as well.

You can say what you want about Clarko but he's a person of high integrity and I'm looking forward to seeing what he puts in place to get North on the road to success

He did tank in his first year at the Hawks but personally, I don't have a problem with tanking per se

Whilst we've got rules and a draft that encourages losing, there will always be tanking

Yeah that 05 year maybe a little sketchy!

At least with a guy like him you know where you stand.

The Media Outlets have been absolutely appalling this week. As bad as Essendrug.
i hope Rutten sues the lot

I just confirmed to myself how much I hate Essendon. Just bought a car from a dealer in Essendon. I had a yucky feeling each time I walked past the car. The number plate surround had Essendon on it! After 5 minutes of black permanent marker Essendon is gone. Car is now much nicer!

Essendon can rot in hell.

I don't like North.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
