Nice to see Harry Petty get some recognition by the broader AFL community, i know most Melbourne supporters rate him, but i'm not sure the rest of the comp quite realises how good he is/can be.

I'd argue he's our best young key position prospect by some distance.

42 named players = almost 2.5 per team

We got 4... good result

Swans have 6

Bowey and Rivers could be up there as well. Expect both to have good careers for us.

Not surprised the Swans have 6. Swans and Freo have the best young talent and will be competitors for years to come. Amazing that Andrew Brayshaw and Aaron Naughton are still both only 22!

Is this a publicly voted team? The AFL story says, "A whopping 97 per cent of fans had Collingwood first-year sensation Nick Daicos in their side, with Brayshaw and Geelong key back Sam De Koning named in 95 per cent of teams."

It doesn't actually say that the team was selected by "fans", but the inference is there.

F** me so it is a popularity contest? Why bother doing it then!

Seems the 40 man squad is chosen by a panel and then its by social media/public voting, can't complain about Petty being unlucky when i didn't vote aha

Is the Ginnivan nomination some sort of 'peace offering' or consolation!!😐

Petty unlucky, but McCartin and De Koning were the right choices for the main key defenders and the other backs who got picked ahead of him in Daicos, Coleman, Blakey, Clark, Young and Quaynor are all very good players. Not sure who I’d leave out for Petty of that group. It’s already 1 too many defenders to begin with. I’d take out Clark or Young and still be at the standard 7 defenders.

This team doesn’t have 3rd talls at either end or really a true number 1 ruck, which shows you how rare good talls under 22 are to begin with.

Petty may have flown under the radar of your average random footy fan, but I bet opposition coaches rate him.

He has been our most consistent key back this year for mine.

No joke intended FD.  Petty is relatively unrecognised by the football public at this stage but that is changing.

On the other hand, opposition clubs would be well aware of his talent.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
