We lost last week because of 5 free kicks in front of goal, but we are not going to drop culprits Viney, Petty or May

We also lost because of missing easy shots at goal, but we are not going to drop culprits Gawn, Salem or Kossie

No point making whoelsale changes just because we lost.

Well going on Goodwin's interview he is happy with Gawn forward so Melksham might keep his spot.

A wasp could play ANB's role

Just buzzin around, being a nuisance

So it would be better if ANB  didn't bother to tackle and let his opponent run free? He is vital to our success. Read what Max said about him in his book.

Aside from his kicking he had one of his best forward games. I think we kicked to Brown too often in the second half which made us predictable

Agree on kozzie flying for Marks. Airways looks spectacular but can't recall him every taking one

Neither can I .

On that basis you never make a change.

Tomlinson to play defensive fwd - melksham out ( Tomlinson is bigger stronger and a trained defender and will be more likely to bring the ball to ground and bring kozzie and spargo into the game)

Dunstan comes in  brawshaw returns to the backline and hibberd is omitted. Brayshaw provides more dynamic defensive rebound options and Dunstan is a contested footy beast so we don't lose as much at the stoppages.

I would also bring in Harmes (a more consistent performer) to play the same role mid/fwd for sparrow.

🤮🤮🤮on all counts.

Having watched the last few games, I suspect our opponents have worked out that a significant key to stopping us is to stop ANB. He seems to be the one who is tagged more often than any other player. He's fumbling because he's under immense pressure even before he's got the ball. And then when he gets it, he has no time to dispose of it. (To his credit, he's absorbing an enormous physical punishing every game.) I don't know whether the solution is to move him, drop him or give him time to work through it.

Thanks, I hadn’t noticed this. It does seem like there’s someone immediately on top of him as soon as he receives the ball. Hence all the WTB penalties. I hope his reaction time will improve as he reaches his peak level of performance in a few weeks.

I also hope that goal last week clears his nips in front of the sticks. He really seemed to relish it 😁

He didn't get much love on here for that goal.

Stood up when needed and the team should have made sure it was a winning goal.

It was directly in front on the run without pressure.

A fairly elementary kick at that level, not sure it needs a lot of love!

Yeah but you sure would have heard about it if he had missed it - as they don’t get much easier than that.

Joel Smith being an answer to our forward line issues is a massive hail Mary

He's been on the list 7 years ,26 games for 1 goal and played almost exclusively as a defender. I don't get how one game at Casey and training with the forwards for 3 weeks is going to enable him to slot into a forward line and be productive in finals.

Referring to 'Hail Mary', I guess even footy has its moments of faith.

Yep, and we need a bit of that right now.

Joel Smith has been Demonland’s answer to almost every question since 2018.

I agree with you. Maybe if he trains as a forward over the pre-season it’s an option for 2023, although he finally showed strong defensive form at the start of this year so I feel like that would just be wasting his development as a defender. But not after he spent all year injured and then played 1-2 games for Casey as a forward.

True but he kicked it JG! Something few others were able to do regularly on the night.

Given Max's lumbering nature at ground level, I think we want to play a defensive forward on the most likely interceptor to make Gawn and Brown even more dangerous in the air.

Unless we think JVR can play that role, Melksham could well stay in the side for the rest of the year.

Maxy , Fritter, Kozzie and Tracc all say hi

Bowey needs to come into the team for his clean hands, good decision making and creativity.   After last weeks second half you could raffle him for Rivers/Hunt or Hibberd.  Honestly we had one bloke that did not panic when the heat is on, and that was Salem....We need more!

Watched Joel Smith really closely last game for Casey.  He presented pretty well at the ball, laid a huge tackle when way out of the contest.  That tackle is the type of pressure we need in our forward line.  He was so quick to get there and the tackle really hurt the opposition player.  I would take the risk and insert him into the team.

Hey guys, umm could you be more aware of the free bloke in our forward line? Look a bit more laterally? Ta.

Yes. But he is a repeat offender as others have made mention.

Our medium and small forwards have been wildly inconsistent in their strike rate. And generally it's from open play. (Aside from the obvious couple).

We are the scrap kick at goal and bomb it in kings which has kept opposition sides in games for longer than desired all year long.

It's deckchairs at this point imo.

If we can find efficiency and composure from our midfielders through to our forwards from here on, we win the flag.

If not, we lose it.

All other parts of our game are in shape.
