I know James Brayshaw annoys a lot of people but you have to admit, his Clayton Oliver's "Bang bang bang" commentary will certainly go down as one of the best moments in that grand final. Among others that is..

Unfortunately since that call I've noticed that almost any time someone kicks a goal he goes "bang". Cheapens it a little for me. Not that moment (praise Clarry!) but Brayshaw's work

Nah - JB has been rolling with "bang" for years. His Clarrie call though, will likely become part of AFL iconography alongside the likes of Stephen Quartermain's "Leo Barry You Star"

I thought the best thing about Brayshaw's "Bang..........bang bang bang" was the silence he followed it with, allowing the vision of the celebrating players tell the story

I prefer Daisy's analysis to most and I suspect the main reason that she's good is because she's still involved in the game. Special comments / analysts seem to me to have a limited shelf life. Some may recall Cameron Ling being lauded for his special comments in his first year on 7. He was bloody excellent. But with each passing year he's provided less & less meaningful analysis and more and more cliches. He's hopeless now.

Couldn't have said it better...particularly the shelf life and Ling.

Yes it’s possible that Daisy was initially appointed her boundary rider gig a few years ago primarily on a quota thing, but since then she has done such a tremendous job it was impossible not to promote her into the box for special comments as she provided so much more insight than likes of Ling/Richo etc.

Just for fun, here is my special comments ranking from first to last (Tv only)

Bucks

Dunstall

Lewis

Bartel

Jones

Daisy

Riewoldt

King

Hodge

Lyon

Brown

Carey

Richo

Healey

Watson

Dermott

Matthews

I read that article last night, and quickly dismissed it as confetti when it became clear everyone is a good commentator, when in fact, the AFL is as poorly served for commentators as any sport in the world. In a word, our footy commentary is dreadful.

It's certainly not in a good state. Maybe like umpiring it's the sport that is too difficult! 😛

He can't think of anything exciting to say in the big moments,  do he falls back on old trusty "bang"

It's one of the reasons I cringe whenever someone applauds him for his Oliver call. It was dead set hopeless for a moment that huge. Same as his call of the Petracca goal to open our account. "Christian goes bang"

Useless commentator.

This x 1000.

I know there will be ‘bang bang bang’ t shirts soon…

We are Melbourne supporters, we shouldn’t be so enamoured with neanderthallic rantings during our apogee.

We should have a few more years - let’s hope we have another moment with a better soundtrack to define our re-emergence.

worth a listen, Daisy is a class act and talks through the hunt , dermie comments with measured logic and eloquence.

Daisy makes a really good point saying that while she gets criticism nearly every time she is on tv it was suprising for it to come from fellow past and present commentators, especially a colleague.

Neither Hunt nor Brereton would have the guts to publicly put down a male colleague the way they have Daisy.  Shameful.

Well, that was something. She is so smart and thoughtful. And did they say Derm gave Huddo a drive by during the commentary of a game on the weekend about ‘playing zero games of footy’? Lol, love these blokes losing their minds as people who aren’t former footy players talk about the game better than they do…

Rex Hunt, Dermott Brereton, Daisy Pearce. One of these three is not like the others --- two of them would look old in the Jurassic era, and one is all class. Enough said! 😁

Useless commentator.

His best call of the GF is in the 1st quarter when Williams drops the sitter, and Brayshaw says “It’s falling the way of the Demons” as Fritsch capitalises.

In recent weeks, he has constantly repeated the phrase “that’s not going to work” every time there’s a mistake, turnover or missed shot ie every 20 seconds. Infuriatingly repetitive and limited.

As for Daisy, she has many admirable qualities - humility is up there with the best of them. She seems so grounded for a superstar, and it’s hard to think of many better role models, of any gender.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
