Big call coming back from a broken right thumb after only two weeks. Can speak from first hand experience it ain't much fun handballing with your right hand when your thumbs broken. Three to six is the normal prognosis.

Pain and functional quality depends on the type of fracture, where it is, and type of internal fixation used. If the thumb does what he requires of it, heโ€™s ready.ย

ย

Melksham stays in, really toughens up our forward line. Bring in Weideman, he does as well. Give Jackson a spell, or Max.

ย

Oliver is back and Lever expected to play according to Goody.

Not sure that view is universally shared on Demonland.

ย

Well, that makes things easier. Or harder. Petty ok to come back? Was he mentioned?

If you're going to bring in Weid you might as well give JVR a try, he might just show something whereas Weid?

Not everyone gets sarcasm

He was out under the H&S protocols so you'd assume he's right to come in

True. Just after I posted I realised I may have missed the sarcasm. And although I could have edited or deleted my post, I decided to let my naivete stand.ย ย

To win the flag I think ย Petty should come back as CHF and Tommo keep his place at FB.ย
On the other hand could Tommo bullock his way like Tmac snd create ball drops etc for ย the smalls up forward? ย Isn't as good a player as Tmac so let's give Petty a go at this stage.

I also think Howes should be given 2/3 weeks to find form and look at him as an extra forward ย possibility for say HFF ย who can mark and move around. Yes is a gamble but worth looking at snd giving him a chance at this stage. ย Or maybe try Rivers up forward as he competes well.ย
ย

The Petty option seems a reasonable option, but Howes after missing so much footy is way out of left field. ย JVR would seem way ahead in the pecking order.

Exactly my thoughts - there are several parts to the thumb, some involved directly in hand balling, and others not. ย Anyway it is a Bulldogs game so surely in the interests of equity he should be allowed to just throw it.

Somebody had to say it, I guess.ย

Petty was confirmed as coming back in Selwynโ€™s injury update video. Makes it interesting. For me:

In:

Oliver, Petty

Out:

Melksham, Tomlinsonย

Both outs are stiff, they were ok.

I thought going small was looking good after the Brisbane game but with Max and Luke a bit down on their contested marking there might be a spot for Weid or JVR. Especially with the dogs backs not so great against tall forwards. Iโ€™d prefer JVR on form but Weid is experienced so might get the nod. If we go bigger I think Spargo goes out, his main asset, his kicking, is off, and Bedford is applying more pressure and x-factor.ย

I'm mostly underwhelmed by Weid as well but he has shown he can at least create a contest at AFL level , and on occasions been better than serviceable. Jvr will get his chance next year. He has shown glimpses but hardly banging down the door will multiple bags and dominating at VFL. If we choose to go tall I'd prefer to go with a player who we know can compete at AFL and won't be a liability

It was either sarcasm or stupidity, take your pick.

Unfortunately you want all the things Weid isn'tย

Just watched the Goody presser. Not a great sign for BBB. I'm fearing his career maybe over sooner rather than later.

It does add some context to his performances of late and his lack of impact, which has been duly noted. Appears as though he doesn't train much in shorter turnaround games, which will severely impact his movement and fitness. So its no surprise that coming off a 9 day break, he looks much much better and has a greater impact for longer. The other thing I notice is that BBB tends to have his biggest impact early on in the game, but tends to fade out, which again probably is another indication of the severity of his injury.ย

MONย  ย I forgot about J. Smith and would also suggest also that Joelย  come back and be tried up forward as a roaming type.

Be OK for after Bye break Round 23 and if we win and have break before Prelim. Give BBB limited time for Prelim and keep fresh for GF if possible.ย ย

58 - a fit Joel (I know a very unknown, sadly) would add a lot of versatility as a forward or a defender, despite his limitations.

With BBB's future now ย looking rather uncertain, we need some height up forward, so it may be it is time for the Weed to make his final ย case again. ย

Whilst I have been hoping that JVR may get a gig sooner rather than later, throwing him in without an experienced forward partner may be too much to ask: or, he could of course stand up and announce his presence.

NO.. pressure acts dont cut it for me... How many times did he get the ball???? Not bloody enough. BACK TO CASEY! As Barassi once said

" You give me possesions.... and I'll shut up"

End of Rant!

Interestingly, Barassi - like so many Demon supporters - was seldom incorrect. Possessions - and the retention thereof of the football for plans C, D, E & F in a chain of continuous possession - are everything. Too many Demons think they are Tracca-clones, going goalward but in most cases, too far out. Bedford needs teamwork to get support for his little cameos and when he is lining up close to goal, it is almost a certainty. It is up to the team to provide that support through not bombing the pill in panic from too far out. I love his pace, his grip-snatch on the ball, his ability to lead to space. That is what needs to be recognised by midfielders and roaming half-forwards; Bedford, like Kozzie, is available. It will only take a bit of training practice and one or two 'game-time' experiences to settle this play, Petal. This is offensive work, not defensive pressure .

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If youโ€™re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footyโ€”you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Caseyโ€™s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down thereโ€”and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwinโ€™s summer of love.ย Manyย issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
