At least he will be able to have an intelligent conversation at Melbourne. Although Darcy Moore would have been alright to speak to

What a force across the AFL for the next few years.  Gawn and Grundie, "The Gee Force" or "the Gee Dees" heading the 'awesome foursome', Oliver, Petracca, Brayshaw, Viney.

Brodie is going to bring a different dynamic to the group. Jackson appeared to me like he was in no way a leader. Brodie will add weight to the leadership around the place and be automatically respected. Good fr the club.

I'm so intrigued how this is going to work structure wise.

Say both play 80% game time, obviously one would be in the ruck and the other spending time up forward.  Thats fine.

I'm just thinking of how teams this year cut us up by going through the centre of the ground instead of down the line where we'd own the skies.  Does one of the Grawndy then setup behind the play as an intercept marker down the line with maybe May/Lever to go more in the centre as another interceptor?

Grundy I remember is a great clearance player with good skills and grunt.  I can't remember many big, contested marks like what Maxy does.

So I'm thinking Grundy will be our main ruck with Gawn basically plugging a role down back when things are tight or having the ball bombed on that magnificent scone of his.

Speaking of, I’ve just been on my Demon Army WhatsApp chat and I’m blushing like a mofo. First time ever it’s  been so racy. I’d even go so far as to say hot n steamy. Even the blokes are joining in. This is one of many, many examples of what’s causing such hormonal raucousness …

Ok that’s one example. Here’s another…

But this is the one causing all sorts…

Personally, I’m a little meh. But if anyone’s got a few buckets of water or better still a fleet of firefighting hoses, they’re needed over on WhatsApp. STAT!

Edit: update… phew. idk what happened there but things have returned to normal and now we’re back to talking about all things crepe paper and sticky tape.

Five minutes of craziness has ended and DA folks back to their staid middle-aged selves. Thank god.

Welcome to the MFC Mr Grundy. Once you have been cleansed of the filth I hope you and Max can provide a positive ruck combination that oppositions struggle against.

Is Gawn and Grundy the best ruck duo ever?  The only other I can think of is Polly Farmer and Sam Newman.

Strawberry odwyer and Stynes!

To all the doubting Thomas, we are going to give in, we will get bent over. You know  nothing we stuck it out and won. The pies caved they had no choice. Go Dees.

Can't say that with Freeo. We were going to insist on 7 or under

Thought his statement was very lovely and spoke of a player deeply hurt by what went on at Collingwood.

No different to Treloar, he will have a point to prove and might finally help us beat Collingwood.

i wonder if grundy will be fit to leave the decontamination facility in time for preseason training?

Telling for what he doesn't say: no thank you to the club, coaches or staff.

Good on him for being genuine.

At least Brodie didn't tell everyone he'd been talking to Melb since mid year. As genuine a final message as they come.

Grundy in the middle, gawn floating around back, petty up forward?

And then for the kick ins - Gawn on the left flank. Grundy on the right. Players ready to smash it straight through the corridor after. Perfection.

For some reason thinking of Gawn and Grundy reminded me of this deadly duo. Random I know

2 firsts and a second, he is hardly worth one first.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
