Won't he be 29 next year.

That's getting old for a ruck. Imho.

The arguably greatest of all ruckmen Polly Farmer played in the '67Gf at 32, and led a perth team to the flag in his final year at 36.

Max can do it.  If he can go 5 more seasons, if he wants and can meet the standard, I don't see why not with nuturing from the club and medicos.

spelling mistakes

I expect Geelong to get Grundy over us as per tradition:

They stole Brent Grgic and Sam Blease off us. (*slight sarcasm*)

They convinced Isac Smith to choose Geelong over us.

They selected Max Holmes literally one selection before we were about to pick him (not that I'm complaining about Bowey but right now you're taking Holmes over Laurie)

Well if Kim Hagdorn is correct over in WA and Jacko is staying put for 2 years - I don't care where Grundy goes or doesnt but it won't be to us.

Yeh, I'm still devastated about Blease going there..

You made the same erroneous claims about TMac. Maybe use google

Tx for that Demon 17. That's a great effort for anyone but a ruckman....wow.

I would argue the game is harder....much more faster and more taxing today, so yea he may have a good 5 years in him at best but he's already had a few injuries.

Come on Dogga Perth is way too hot.

It was chronically severe sarcasm on my part re: Blease, but them getting Smith and Holmes over us was annoying.

Pretty much stating that he's a lock at the Dees if he decides to leave the Pies.

If he is committed to melb, then LJ is probably committed to Freo

I think they're just spitballing to be honest.

Sorry Daz, but is a spitball like a Furphy?

Bris v Richmond was another game where ruck domination was meaningless. 55-16 and Tiges lose.

Tiges without their best mid Prestia was more impactful than Lions losing Oscar McInerney.

ruck dominance makes a bigger impact when you have a good midfield, which rich don't.

having one injury interrupted year particularly the type of injuries he has had, doesnt scream injury prone

If we are bringing in Grundy as reported for the sole purpose of Gawn being able to spend more time up forward then we're making a big mistake imo.

The Gawn experiment up forward simply has to cease and accept that he's not a natural forward and it completely throws our structure out of wack.

Let me remind that since the Sydney game back in round 12 Gawn has kicked only 2 goals. That's right, 2 goals playing more predominantly up forward and having no influence whatsoever.

Watching Hickey completely dismantle both Gawn and Jackson shows you don't need to break the bank for a star ruckman.

100% correct.

I genuinely hope Jackson goes.

Nothing personal, but it's time to rejig our list and Jackson simply isn't worth what Freo want to pay him.

Grundy and two first rounders is exactly what we need for another tilt over the next few years. And it's not just about the two first rounders, it's what we will be able to do with them as far as pick trading goes. We're masters of that.

The game evolves, we need to as well. I admire what Goodwin was able to do last year and it's taken years for it to click. But the next step is to tinker again to stay ahead of the game. The swannies showed us that next stage of evolution.

Their list is more dynamic, they play with more flair and they're far better balanced as a list. They brought extreme pressure and used skill to move around us. That's modern day footy.

We're relying on a system that was impenetrable for a season and now many teams know how to combat us.

Our defensive foundation and system is still unreal, but we need to add layers. Otherwise we'll fall back to the pack in the blink of an eye.

Last night's game once again illustrated that we don't need 2 ruckmen on big coin who can't play as forwards. Neither Max nor Grundy are forwards. Getting Grundy won't extend Max's career, it will dilute Max's value to the team.

Over the last few weeks I have watched Jackson closely and have changed my view. He is IMO grossly over rated. Let him go home and get the best possible deal. Then screw the Pies on a Grundy deal as it would appear they want his salary gone.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
