I don't know who else is available but I wouldn't want to spend a first round pick on a second ruckman

Our current second ruckman could net 2, so buying a better ruckman for half that price seems pretty reasonable.

Having said that, there is no reason this deal would warrant a first rounder if Collingwood are actually dumping his salary

He would be on top of the list, although l think he stays at norf

Goldstein is 34. So perfect for Geelong.

Flynn (24 y.o), or Briggs (22 y.o) from GWS. They are pretty well stocked with those 2 and Preuss.

Surely one of them would appreciate more opportunity, and playing with a better team.

Both have shown some ability to take a contested mark / kick a goal, in their short careers thus far, on top of basic competent ruck craft.

Wasn’t the long term contract Eddy got Grundy to sign supposed to keep him a magpie for life?

Imagine what Grundy must now be thinking when, with 5 years left, he’s told to look elsewhere! Particularly when it’s essentially a f- wit like de Goey that the pies seem to want to keep in preference to him.

They are contracted aren't they? If contracted players aren't moving then what do you do?

Goldstein is 404 years old, otherwise I'm with you.

I think he was in the first Millenia team of the century.

I see it more as him doing most of the ruck whilst Gawn spend more time forward

Goodwins interview today sounds like he does too.

Does anyone know what his contract is with Collingwood? What are currently the dollars to be paid over the next 5 years?

For sure he knows the words to ‘This Is Me’, I actually think he’d get along with the list. We are not building, we are hot now, the next four years is our sweet spot. We are a contest based side with Oliver, Tracy, Viney, Sparrow who deserve a matching ruck; and I think Grundy would be great for the defensive structures as well. He is however not a KPF and that is what we are all balding about.

What about "Freed From Desire"?

Without seeing a Collingwood balance sheet it's hard to tell. Someone more in the know could have a punt on the  percentages each year but it's a long bow.

It's widely reported as being  $1M per year for 7 years of which this is the second year

I would have thought the ruck situation is less of an issue if we get someone like Meek from Freo as part of the Jackson trade (if it were to go ahead).  He would be behind Jackson and Darcy - arguably the two best rucks under 25 in the game.

Sure if we can get Grundy cheaply (in salary and trade wise) but otherwise I'm not convinced  he's the answer.  Shouldn't we be throwing the kitchen sink at a gun key forward instead?

To get the Treloar deal done the Pies made it known they would pay $300k of his $900k salary for five years.

If you could get them to pay $400k of his $1M  Grundy could fit money wise for us

I think Goldstein is a much lower risk recruit. He is a better forward than Grundy and not on a ridiculous contract.

Jack Silvani would be another option to go for to play second ruck. Getting dropped to sub showed he wasn’t considered to be in the best 22.

If Gawn is to play forward we need a game plan that involves him handing off every time to a player coming past for every shot between 1m out to 50m out.
The invention of the dual player shot for goal strategy.

Grundy buys Gawn 2 maybe 3 more seasons. It gives us time to develop another young ruck (could possibly be Jeff White’s kid who I believe is now 16) and means we are not losing much ruck strength with Jackson leaving.

I would only do it if it costs us peanuts both in terms of picks and salary.

I dont necessarily understnd this. Isnt a KPF also quite an intense role, especially given our game style. Cant see it extending his career tbh.

Ruck is the most physically demanding role there is. Gawn gets absolutely smashed in there and 99 out of 100 times it’s play on.
Given he’s had 3 knee recos, there is no doubt that playing FF will absolutely extend his career. Plenty of FF retire in their mid 30s. Look at Kennedy and Hawkins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
