Harmes now looking elsewhere.

Possibly Essendon.

I'd be sad to see Harmes leave.

By the looks of things we will be shedding a fair amount of salary during this Trade Period?

Does anyone have an idea on the value of contracts that Jackson, Hunt, Bedford and Harmes would add up to? I assume they'd equate to over the $1 - 1.2M mark which begs the question who are we bringing in other than Grundy? Or are we looking to make space for a couple of contract renewals?

Sounds exactly like Harmesy.

One bloke I won't miss one bit especially his wannabe don't argues.

Brayshaw already started to. Harmes was spending more and more time wing and half forward once Gus moved midfield.

So we go back to what didn’t work in 2018 with slow, on way running mids, and replace Gus/Harmes with JJ on the wing? Then replace our only midfield depth with what exactly?

I don’t like this at all.

Need an upgrade in if Harmes is out.

Signed till 2024.

Let me say this loud and clear... Harmes is NOT going to that messed up sorry excuse for a club in a gazillion years!!

The druggies may have approached but i'm backing him in to stay put.

There is no current player that has more red & blue running in their veins than this loyal premiership minion.

TT was clearly out of sorts at North this year. The form he showed in the 2nd half of 2021 was outstanding. He's a perfect fit for us.

If Harmes has been told that he can look elsewhere, I hope that means that we have TT in our sights.

Is there any actual media speculation about Harmes yet that I’ve missed or is this just purely a murmur on DL?

Edit: Mitch Cleary come on down

Is it 1st April? Is this a joke. He’s a heart and soul type. Gives the grunt work behind Clarry, Trac and Viney.  Also one of the players who can actually tag, like he did v Neale in round 23. Noting Goody didn’t use him tag Neale in the finals.

Harmes out of major mid rotations and Gus in (other than the first couple of 'surprise packet' matches post his contract which were initially very effective, then reasonably effective, then finally not effective at all) was one of the reasons we didn't end the 2nd half of 2022 very well IMV.

We lacked the extra drive and breaking more tackles, getting the ball i50 with quick exits.  Doing so gives forwards a few more looks to convert.

Goodwin & the FD need to seriously review this set up.  Gus played his best most impactful footy (in terms of benefit to the team) in 2021 as a mostly wing/hf.

Agreed. Harmesy.

Harmes wants to play midfield and doesn’t like playing elsewhere. Similar to Brayshaw EXCEPT that Angus can play anywhere and excel whereas James just doesn’t excel anywhere other than in the middle. I have also heard he does not cope well when not in the middle either.

that isn’t a condemnation of a solid Demon and someone who will always have a place in shared memory of our drought breaking flag.

If this does happen, this is how you get younger players through the team which was a large criticism from some.

I won’t like to see him go but if the deal is right - this is what good teams do.

Yep. There is Casey Talent that needs Senior exposure and experience.
That said i will always have a special place for Harmesy

That Beautiful spearing pass to Fritta after he took the ball in his fingertips….

How bloody impressive is Tim Lamb? Seems like someone who doesn't suffer fools, but is fair and reasonable too.

No risk of loosing him to Horethorn then?

You may be right but Petty has formed part of such a good defensive unit we mat be robbing peter to pay paul.

Any chance Turner might get a run in the forwards during pre-season?

Exactly how much money has Paul accumulated over the years?

Dees need to be smarter. MFC caught again

By go home factor (LJ)🤮

By free agency (Hunt) 🤮

By a I-need-a-fair-go departure (Bedford) 🤮

Grundy is a roulette spin that is a costly $600k over 5 years as a “backup” 🧐🧐🧐

big test for ex recruiter Tim Lamb.

Josh Mahoney was very strong and I had confidence in his recruiting and bargaining to win the trades for Hibbo, Melksham, May, Lever, Langdon & Brown.

You do realise this was mostly all Tim Lamb work considering he was/is still our national recruiting manager who facilitated these deals during this period.

Josh Mahoney was just a spokesperson in the media and general footy manager in the same role as what Alan Richardson.

All credit needs to go to Tim Lamb and Jason Taylor for building our premiership team.

Yep - caught with a premiership cup in our hands and the window open for at least another five years. Must be much smarter that that.

Harmes has always struck me as a bit of a prima donna, even if he did grow up supporting the dees.

Interesting period coming up if we lose Tomlinson, Hunt, Bedford & Harmes. That’s 4 blokes from the top 24. Decent hit to depth

Didn't see anybody else kick a perfect pass at a critical point to Fritch in a Grand Final, bear in mind his namesake did something similar, albeit with his hand,in a GF as well.

Just thought cold blooded people might think he might be a keeper...

Wouldnt be happy with Harmes going - Gives his all every time, tags better than anyone else on our list and way harder than those being suggested as his replacement.

Out of curiosity, who are the depth/youth at Casey gunning for his spot?

Ive been vocal about how we didn't rotate the squad and blood new players, but young midfield depth is not really something we have. You could make an argument for Laurie, but he's not nearly as versatile or strong as Harmes on the ground or in the air...Bedford was one but is now gone. Who's the one to take his spot? Jordon could but not very dynamic and that creates a need for another winger - Howes hasn't shown much...

We hardly use him as a tagger so we stupidly ignore his best position so doesn’t surprise me that he is looking/being pushed elsewhere.

Chandler will be first in line for that spot.  also but i see Sparrow getting more minutes in that role now

Jordon straight back in

Perhaps Lachie Hunter on the way too?

And when we go left of field with a 2nd half Tom Sparrow tag to "surprise", their midfield gun gets off the chain.

I don’t get that we don’t tag. I would each week. Doesn’t have to be a hard tag but FFS Harmes has done very good jobs on the best, use him each week to nullify their best. Seems dumb not to.

Just confirming that with Bedford, Harmes, Hunt, and Hunter becoming public knowledge in the last 12-24 hours, as well as Jackson and Grundy, we're now sufficiently active in the trade period for some pundits on Demonland?

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #42 Aidan Johnson

The VFL premiership player was recruited from Werribee to alleviate Melbourne’s forward line woes and give a chop out in the ruck, but he managed only five senior matches in his first season at the club. At times, he was a dominant force at VFL level.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #44 Luker Kentfield

An exciting young key forward, Kentfield was selected in the 2024 mid-season draft but has yet to make his AFL debut. He was sidelined by a severe bout of pneumonia over the summer, which consequently limited his pre-season. Upon his return a month into the season, he commenced in defence but ultimately impressed with his progress at Casey, particularly in the latter part of the season as a strong marking goal kicking forward.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.
