I think we're going to be looking at Georgiades. Remember the behind the scenes on draft night when JT was shocked that port took him? He was high on our list and JT thought he wasn't on other team's radar and we'd get him with the pick we ended up using on Rivers.

As we've seen with Lever, when JT misses one he really likes he tends to try and get them in a trade.

Not saying it will happen or there's anything to it, just that I bet we're into him.

I also think we should try for Ollie Henry. Can play, and is a tough matchup. Also I'm just keen to stop Geelong from constantly topping up with talent like him!

On Kozzie, from foxfooty:  "Meanwhile Edmund also reports the Power continue to circle Demons young gun Kysaiah Pickett, who was drafted from SANFL side Woodville-West Torrens.  It’s believed Pickett isn’t enamoured with Melbourne but loves playing for the for the Demons. He’s also contracted for next season".

Poorly worded.  I think he means Kozzie isn't enamoured with Melbourne, the City rather than MFC.  Still very concerning that Port are rattling the cage to get him next year.

Terrible rumors thread.

Is Georgiades a real KPF, or more a third tall like Fritta?

We could have a really mobile forward line with Fritta, Georgiades and JVR, but not sure if we'd be tall enough.

Not saying this is the ideal forward line. I honestly don't know... just that I think there's reason to believe we'll be looking to get him. Also he can really fly, has sticky hands. Could be repurposed as a defender if needed too.

Yeah, but he’s only 192cm  😆.

(he’s got long arms, so plays taller than his listed height).

It works both ways.  We can "poach" players from other clubs too, you know.

I know it works both ways, but still a bit stiff for the clubs (any club nor just the MFC).

I guess we shouldn't draft anyone from interstate or with ties to Geelong then 🤷🏻‍♂️

I heard him on SEN and he did say Melbourne the city. Just lazy from foxfooty.

I agree with Kozzie. The only good thing about the city of Melbourne is the MFC.

Lovely part of the world...

Couldn't agree more!

Now a fact:  JUNIOR Rioli has made a decision on his future and informed West Coast of his desire to be traded to Port Adelaide.

Eagles didn't mince words:  "We could not have done any more to support Junior since his infraction in 2019," CEO Trevor Nisbett said. "We facilitated his appeal and subsequent return to football, so this decision is bitterly disappointing."

They paid him while suspended and paid his legal and QC bills so reaction understandable.

If we continue with the current game plan then Georgiadies will end up like Weid. We saw how he  struggled without Dixon as well so we have the proof.

In fact there are not really any forwards that relish slow ball movement and would thrive  in our team. I think we have the forward cattle that would more than cut it if we were able to improve our ball movement.

Ultimately, we need to improve our bottom 6 as others have said, which means we need to get rid of the excess of inside ball grunts and target athletic, good ball users.

If you could replace/ upgrade most of Sparrow, Harmes, JJ and ANB with better  field kicking and leg speed then it wouldn’t even matter who we had in the forward line as it would get in there much much quicker. Fritta is dangerous 1:1 and BBB has a great reach. Both of these players are useless in contested marking situations. So instead of Cadman, I’m really buying into the H. Young option and a first rounder for LJ.

We also need to look at giving May a bit more freedom in D50 so he can be an additional option in free play to launch our scoring chains from deep defence. I think that means using Petty on the #1 forward and brining Turner into the side to backfill his role . I don’t know if it’ll work but we have to change things up this year and become less predictable in our back half.

If we can nett Grundy and Young for LJ; bring in JVR and Turner all to replace Hibbo, JJ/Harmes, ANB/Sparrow, LJ. Those are massive improvements and investment to the future. You also have TMac for Melksham to add to that.

Would have to be 1 year.

Surprising re Melksham but I suppose you need to spend your money somewhere and with Mitch Brown gone.

Hibberd... one year is fine

Melksham played forward for the 2nd half of the year in a team that finished 2nd on the ladder, he deserves and has earned a contract

On the back of winning the first 10 games. Not saying he doesn’t deserve another year but we won’t be contending if we only have one tall fwd again next year.

Not surprised with Hibbo. He's one of the few who can actually defend small/medium forwards.

Melksham was 50/50 call. Did well to get back into the team and play some decent footy.

Both would probably be on club friendly 1 year deals.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
