I think the person I talked to was meaning that someone on a mil a year, should be worth a first rounder, in theory. Even if 300 of that is being paid by another club. It's not my view, but I think that's what he meant.

He did say they were trying to move Grundy, to trade in a GWS mid, so I guess that's where the bargaining power comes in, meaning they need Grundy gone to bring in the GWS mid

The person you are talking to is clueless. The mil a year was a bad contract, and has nothing to do worth his current worth.

I think Grundy will have other attractive suitors - Geelong and Port. If he moves it won't be a total firesale.

Treloar is an excellent mid. Grundy has been usurped as no 1 ruck and is arguably behind Cox as 2nd ruck.

Don’t care what the AFL say; don’t get him then. Let Coll pay him $1m to play VFL.

The AFL would probably want to avoid that tbh…

Treloar is about the 30th best mid in the league. Grundy is a top 5 ruckman. Big difference in both position and Players worth.
You might not care what the AFL say, but it’s entirely relevant to the discussion. When he returns from injury he won’t be playing in the VFL.

Again, I hope the interest isn’t strong from us and the trade doesn’t happen. If it does though then we’ll be sending a first rounder across unfortunately.

Pies would happily have Grundy suit up for the Western Jets next season if they absorbed the coin, they just want him off the books to grab Taranto

Pies will get fleeced regardless where he goes to

Will Brodie (ominous) was traded with pick 19 to get his contract off the books

I paid too much for a car, it only has a few years left in it at best. Currently un-driveable.

I expect you to pay heaps for it because it was worth heaps when new.

What do you reckon?

I say Collingwood need a dump (salary) they can pay $300k we swap a 2nd round tip for 3rd round (to keep nuffies happy) and deal done if Richmond doctors say he's ok.

And that is why the Pies are prepared to pay part of his salary. The first thing this guy said to me was that it was a bad contract, and we had already discussed that in the past. That's why they don't want him on their list. He also believes no ruck should be worth a mil, let alone Grundy. As I said he even thought Jackson was just "ok".

Treloar was best on for WB in last years GF. Grundy WAS a top 5 ruck. Who is just gone under the knife again, who they are desperate to trade out.

I don’t see what you see.

Treloar AND picks 26, 32 and 44

were traded for

pick 14, and a future 2nd (pick 38)

The very flawed pick calculator values Treloar as a negative in that deal!

Grundy on a 4 year 500k deal is an asset worth close to a late first or early second IMO. Preuss even got a 2nd. Grundy on a 5 year 700k deal is worth ‘thanks for taking him off our books, maybe chuck us a pick to save face’

No he's not. Not any longer anyway

The fact he's been injured and can't get past the VFL in 2022 illustrates this point succinctly

It's actually a huge risk for us taking on a hobbling ruckman for  5 years on $600k, or whatever the suggested difference is. We've got more to lose than the pies IMO, high risk/ high reward could go flat

But he was a negative, that’s the whole point.

#Rooccardi2023

Out of contract & has weapons, probably more of a 2nd tall but an interesting option

Also thought Riccardi he may be a great option as a 195cm, forward who can play the Jeremy Cameron style lead-up role, then I looked at his statistics for 2022. Not up to it unfortunately. Of all the forwards out there that are potentially obtainable I think Nick Larkey stands out. Under contract but surely he’d be keen for a move to the Dees?

With regard to Riccardi, if you're going to go after 23-year-olds you'd want to make sure they can play the game.

In his first two games he kicked six goals and won rave reviews. Has pretty much done nothing since.

Riccardi is very similar if not worse then Weideman.

We're trying to improve our forward line, not make it worse.

Take him to the Richmond doctor!!

Are Collingwood not playing Grundy to avoid aggravating an injury/'hide' his injury status.

Caveat emptor!

Might be more gettable if Clarkson doesn't go to North too, but it'd cost us. Larkey would be my number one target, outside of Ben King.

I heard Brisbane will need points to bring in young father/son prospects Ashcroft and one other (forget who he is).

Not sure who we would be interested in but they will need to trade for points and worth looking at.

Jaspa Fletcher is also a F/S who is expected to go in the earlier part of the draft.

They don't have enough points for both but will get a good comp pick for Mc Stay, bring some of their 2023 draft currency into 2022 and they will get the deals done.

As you say they may also trade out players for picks this year.

Which part of Larkey’s remaining 2 year contract makes him potentially obtainable?

This is a bit like someone in 2013 saying Nathan Jones is handy, surely he’ll move clubs.

Outside of Oliver or Petracca there’s not a player on our list who North would trade for Larkey. Nor would they be interested in a package of mid to late first rounders.

Adrian Fletcher's son.

Correct. Zurhaar is gettable because he's out of contract, and has delayed talks till season end. If Clarkson doesn't end up at North, Zurhaar's chances of leaving are more likely.

Is anyone concerned about The Ooze moving to GWS?

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
