Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Which part of Larkey’s remaining 2 year contract makes him potentially obtainable?

This is a bit like someone in 2013 saying Nathan Jones is handy, surely he’ll move clubs.

Outside of Oliver or Petracca there’s not a player on our list who North would trade for Larkey. Nor would they be interested in a package of mid to late first rounders.

It's definitely a stretch.  But they are 5 years off playing finals.  If he leaves he can come to a premiership team who are right in the window.  He's 24 now so at North will spend the best years of his career in a team rebuilding.

He could get paid more at North but if Jackson leaves we will have significant space in the cap ($750k+? per year) and what could be two first round draft picks.

As he's contracted North would be highly unlikely to let him go but sometimes it happens.

They’re in a far better spot with young talent than we were when Roos took over and we won 10 games in year 3 of Roos and really should’ve played finals the next year. If they don’t make progress in the next 2 years he’ll leave, no player should go more than 8 years in the slop. But there’s no incentive to trade him as a pre agent next year, and absolutely no incentive to trade him this year with 2 years left.

2 or even 3 crappy first round picks aren’t worth more than a decent mature key forward for North. I’d only get interested as a North fan for 4.

Yep, it's why the calls for a PP are not ont. Their list is not that bad...

In terms of experienced talent they might be as bad if not worse than we were. They’re crying out for a Vince and Cross injection of solid professionals.

In terms of quality young players we had Hogan, Viney and not much else. They’ve got plenty. Any assistance should be geared towards experience and not youth.

No.

He bloody deserves it and me personally would stoked for him.

I never in my time watching Ooze play thought he be a senior coach. Just never struck me as the type that would.

I'm of the view that we need some fresh faces and new eyes around Goodwin again so if Ooze leaves for GWS, it might be a good thing.

New voice, different ideas etc.

We need to keep evolving.

They've now got Cunnington back and have Goldy...I know the media like to make a fuss about adding some experience but the reality to me is they don't need it. They have it and any more would be at the detriment of developing their younger players.

The loss of Cunnington this year has been huge for them and probably understated.

Another good draft hand, keep talent and/or trade into a better position with what they have, a good coach and they're well set.

I’d be wishing him all the very best and start speculating about a possible replacement.

Godly might go and Cunnington as you said was out pretty much the whole year. Not sure Greenwood was the right cover. And Ziebell got moved forward because they had nothing up front.

A decent half back organiser and a wing/half forward defensive player - 2 roles  that young players can’t do - would go a long way. Their VFL team stinks too. By far the worst of any afl aligned side. Every good AFL side of the last 15 years or so that I can think of has built a strong VFL side and developed a winning culture.

They don’t have to play a much older side, they just have to have options available to stop gifting games to kids who aren’t nearly ready.

Would be happy if we gave Breust a 2 year contract.

He has kicked 40 goals this year in a poor side and is such a smart footballer.

Who does he replace in the forward half? I'm not against it, just wondering. Because I wouldn't call him a pressure forward. He's an opportunist with good forward craft. Another Fritsch if you like. So more fire power, but what does that do to our pressure at ground level?

I think we need more pace in the forward half.

Well potentially Spargo or Melksham? Can never have too much quality on our list for the right price.

I don't think so. They have a dearth of tall forwards and rucks, even with Grundy in the team

Neal-Bullen or Spargo.

Breust's offensive prowess far outweighs what we get from Spargo or ANB defensively. We need to take advantage of our midfield brilliance and blowout teams when we're on top. Our supposed forward pressure has been massively overrated this year.

The roles of our entire forward group and in particular, Kozzie, Spargo, Melksham & ANB should all be under the microscope for 2023. It is working for our game plan at the moment but I don't know that it can for 3 years in a row.

I think another goal kicking HFF/FP should be high priority, I'm not sure Trac is the answer (Similar to any of Jamie Elliot, Toby Greene, Isaac Heeney, Tom Papley, Zac Bailey).

If Breust is open to it, he could fill that role. He has more goals than our guys bar Fitta, with far fewer opportunities.

Breust’s forward pressure at his prime was excellent, and even now it’s still at least ok. Very good tackler due to his rugby background and a top 3 crumber of the last decade, his reading of the drop of the ball is a weapon both in kicking goals and for getting in position to tackle. But I don’t like the idea of expecting that next year at 32.

Your either ignoring fact because you don't like Ooze and his contribution to 2021 Flag and this season OR you are a very bad judge with this one of your worst opinions on our success.

Of course we would miss Ooze and he wil be hard to replace in the midfield and  we May as well get a  NEW  forward coach at the same time.

Yep, do not want to see his knowledge, communications and skills lost to the Dees. There are many underpinning reasons why this might well occur; similarly, there are many underpinning reasons why he could/should be retained with the Dees - albeit at some personal sacrifice.

Actually read what I wrote and you will see I am actually pumping up Yze incredibly high as a coach and a big reason why I think he would make a fantastic senior coach at GWS.

As usual you go on these massive tangents before taking the actual time in reading what's properly written.

Part of or forward line woes is rooted in our slow ball movement. The only time  we move it quickly into our forward line is when we get it out the front of a centre bounce. Not much quick ball movement from D50 either by taking risks with disposal or by run and carry.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
