Can we talk about Ben Brown? I honestly thought he would kick 60 this year. Best team in the comp, playing against a poor team and he can’t dominate?

doesn’t do much else as far as assists or general play. No one to come in but my word he needs to fire up. How did he regularly kick 60 for north? He looks like a ruck trying to play fwd at gre moment. Can’t even kick straight anymore

Kicked 2, dudded out of a couple more, tackled before the ball came in all day. Didn’t think he was that bad, but his refusal to give a handball worries me. It’s bad enough when it’s Fritsch burning mates, the big fella shouldn’t do the same.

I’d give him the week off but he’ll be back

Out: M Brown, B Brown (rest), Hibberd (rest), Bedford

In: Jackson, Gawn, Hunt, Chandler, Riv/Hunt

Watch and see with Petracca too. Melk on stand bye

Weid must ruck 30%.

Gawn in for M Brown

that is all

OUT: M Brown,

IN: Gawn.

I don't reckon Jackson will get up.

Chandler deserves a spot but who do we drop after a 5 goal win with not real horror performances.

Regarding BBB, his concrete hands, lack of leading and inaccurate kicking is a real issue. But he gets to so many packs and causes 2 opposition players to fly, much more than any other player on our list. ANB, Spargo, Kozzie, Sparrow, Harmes must love the chaos he creates. For that reason he has to stay until someone on our list can do other or do the same better.

I think a lot of demons fans don’t understand how we are asking Ben Brown to play. At North he played as a leading forward in a team that played a lot of games at Marvel - where it’s less contests and easier for dry ball skills.

For us he’s trying to compete in the air almost 100% of the time - as it suits our midfield game style. He’s in the team to kick 2 goals from the 4 opportunities he’s going to get a week. At North, when he was firing, he was getting 10 opportunities because of the way they played, and tried to isolate him.

He’s an important part of the team - specifically around aerial contests in the forward 50 and keeping players like Andrews and Stewart honest.

Sounds like Max is a certainty.  If so I would bring him in for Mitch Brown despite his two goals.

Still very little is known about Jackson's injury.  Is there any inside information (as opposed to hopefully speculation) as to his injury and his prognosis?   Obviously if he is ready he will come straight back in.  Barring any unexpected injuries I would consider leaving out Ben Brown rather than Weed, who despite being outclassed by a superior experienced ruckman worked hard and applied pressure.

Sounds as if Chandler had a great game at Casey - is Bedford in jeopardy?

The Cats are having a training run tonight.  Gonna be a tough ask as theyre also not travelling.

If Pickett gets a week for that it will be an extension of the pathetic umpiring display. Maybe a fine at worst.

If Kozzy gets a week then so does Fogarty. At least Kozys was closer to a footy action.
Watch Gerard Whately go to town on whether it should be a suspension.

Soft game for them tonight is perfect for us they won’t be ready for how hard our midfield will hit them

Doing a full match load of training on the day of the game seems like a weird thing to do. Might as well do a full match load of match.

I mean I guess they weren’t sure if he could get through it?

In Gawn and Jackson

Out Weid he was terrible. back to the 2's for you. M.Brown unlucky played well.

The Weid was the only dampener I thought the rest played ok. The Weid was up against it but I expect him to compete and I thought he didn't. When will it finally click for him?

Pickett could get a week.

OMG if Pickett gets offered a week we should fight it right up the Supreme Court.  It was a football action.

But then I guess it would only be an extension of the totally biased / inept (to be kind) adjudication of everything tonight.  Michael Christian is as inept and as inconsistent as the umpiring department.

Lets hope the new CEO has the guts to demand a full overhaul of the umpiring department and of the MRO / MRP (probably won't though, just continues to try to sanitise and Americanise our game to "enhance the match day experience" - at the expense of the game)

Out Ben Brown to soft.

In Tomlinson

Have to agree the amount of times he flops to ground is becoming very annoying

Geelong are gonna get “north melbourne’d” a theory of mine that has happened 75% of times this year. Team who plays norf goes on to lose the next week.

Yes, but you can do a match's worth of training load without having to jump, turn, tackle etc. etc.

....and get smashed in the back 10 times per match which is what happens to Max every time he plays

Ben Brown halved just about every contest he was in tonight, and most of the time the ball spilled to our advantage, which was no accident. He isn't marking many but he is feeding our ground players. You all are mad. Without him we would have lost tonight

Doesn't help when he can grab the ball and have it punched out of this hands and the umpires blow play on too.

BBBB was far from the worst today. The guys that go out will be making room for Gawn and potentially Jacko. They might also drop 1 small (Kozzie suspension?) and play M Brown or Weid in the TMac role?

Stoked to hear that  Gawn’s back. He absolute owned Geelong in the 3 games last year.

If the MRO assesses Kozzie as intentional and medium impact then he’ll miss next week.

His opponent went off briefly to recover from the hit. Hoping they assess it as low rather than medium.

If Gawn missed today, I struggle to see how he gets up in 5 days.

And that's why I'm not the coach and if he says he's in, he's in.

Rubbish, nothing in it at all. Having said that it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Weed battled hard today, but I would need to see him take some more one grab marks before he wins me back. BBB wasn’t great in that regard either but he stays in for mine for his ability to cause spillage.

And he kicks straight….

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
