If we want Cadman we are going to have to pay overs to get to pick 2

If Cadman is a great player would probably take 4 years plus till we see him dominating consistently

we are in our window now, either use all draft picks on a big free agent or draft players that can play afl straight away

North will take him with pick 1 which becomes 2 after Ashcroft F/S.

GWS are keen on him and are likely to get North's pick 1 by enticing them with pick #3 and #12.  We can't outbid GWS.

GWS aren't shy about paying for the bid they want:  they used a lot of draft currency to get up the board to draft Green.  Ironically in the end they didn't need to as clubs didn't bid on him at the top end.

His highlights are pretty average...

That's all I could say.

So all those that think we should get him, who has seen him play?

...if not, why the hype.

It is because most clubs want that type of forward so 'his perceived value' is being pushed up.  And a fair chunk of 'generational player' type thinking.

A bit like a competitive house auction that becomes a 'must have' even tho there might be others that fit just as well albeit it not the perfect fit ticking all the boxes.

I really like Phillipou

There is something about Phillipou

seems to have plenty of time, bit like Pendlebury and bontempelli

I would trying to get pick 7 or 8 somehow

maybe could have some impact straight away. Playing as third tall/ high half forward

Even if he miraculously lasted to our pick, he’s not going to help our cause in 2023. Even 2024 might be placing too much of a burden on him.

We are ready to go again, we need a KPF who is ready to go now.

We just can’t think like this. You don’t want to spend whatever small amount of capital on the wrong player. Gawn with Grundy fundamentally changes our forward line; I don’t know for better or worse but maybe it means medium talls are better for us in the next 3 years? Maybe we can afford to keep players in our forward line and have them lead at the ball? It’s hard to say but TMac and Brown buy us some time to get this decision right. Because I want to be great for a decade or more - not just next year.

Have seen him play a few times and think he’s shown enough to justify most of the hype. He’s competitive, very good athletically, has great hands overhead and looks to get involved when the game is on the line.

Dragged GWV over the line in a few tight ones this year. The AFL website’s On Demand section has all of the seasons NAB League games uploaded, would strongly recommend having a watch of the Rebels v Power game in rd 15 in particular if you want to get a feel for his game.

Added bonus of seeing Bailey Humphrey tear it up early (before a head knock finished his day early).

He'd need to be a nice Wayne Carey to justify what we'd have to trade to get him.

At this rate, it’s looking like that. Not sure we can get the deal done.

Our forward line would be set for a decade if we could get it done, but our best bet might be him going to GWS and trying to pinch him back in 2 years!

Yes, I agree. With the caveat that I'm basing my perspective from highlights reels.

Get the ball out of the centre, take one bounce, kick it over the full forward's head and right through the big sticks. Certainly worked for my mids when I played full forward.

Is he the Mac Andrew of this years draft????

Couldn't be further from it. Mac Andrew was a skinny kid drafted on potential with glimpses of magic but ultimately little output.

Cadman is physically developed at 90kgs +, and has great output. Highest goal kicker at the level, high in the marks and contested marks stat, finds a lot of ball when playing as roaming CHF type, dragged his team over the line at times. He warrants a top 5 selection. Andrew did not warrant a first round selection, and his output before and since been drafted has shown that.

Seems Cadman is beyond our reach now even if we get a top 5 pick. It's a shame as he really is the only person who fills a direct list need in the first round for us IMO. Typical that the only year we're likely to have a high pick, it's a dud draft with nothing we need.

Twomey suggesting Cadman to go somewhere in 1-3 mark. Can see the other posts suggesting the same.

We will struggle to get him and we'd need WC's pick 2 to have a chance. But even then, GWS will probably trade with NMFC to get him. Norf dont really need a number 1, but 2-3 first round picks would do them a great deal of becoming and remaining competitive for a while and thats even without even considering what they could get for JHF.

Would love to land this guy

I suspect would have been gone at #5 if not for Rankine. I have flight risk vibes though. Admittedly an eon ago, but I played against one of them as a junior a few times (an uncle perhaps, I'm not sure), and recall a large and very parochial clan on the sidelines.

Reckon it's a inevitable that GWS will grab #1 from North, so we will miss out on him as GWS will pick him up. Then he will eventually go to Geelong or Richmond. Oh well

There are other key position forwards available who would be in the 10 - 20 range if that’s where we want to go. Jetterson, Lemmey, Keeler or Gruzewski who could all turn out as good as or better than Cadman. No need to fret if GWS nab him with the 2nd or 3rd pick.

Is he not slightly small for a key forward in the AFL these days? Seems like the keys are all 197-205.

Don’t think it matters. We aren’t getting near him unless we trade out something huge and get a top 3 pick.

So if the Eagles/Port/North/GWS mega trade doesn’t get up (and I think it will) do we go:

West Coast’s Pick 2 for pick 13, Freo’s future 1, Melb’s future 1? Maybe with a late pick back. 3 firsts is serious business.

I reckon we’ll dangle it out there. The biggest issue is North aren’t locked in to pick 1 and could still trade it so we couldn’t do it until the draft (unless we go all the way to 1)

Ashcroft is the standout this year and then there are a whole bunch that are even keel.

Giving up pick 13, Feo's FF and our FF for pick 2 would be ludicrous for that ^ reason as well as the fact that next year's top 10 are considered stronger.

Whoever GWS take will be gone in 3 years anyway. You can only play in front of 4,000 people for so long.

Seemingly Cadman will be off to GWS at pick 1 or 2 (if they bid on Ashcroft, which he deserves to be as the #1 player in the draft by some margin).

I don’t want us to ‘reach’ for a KPF, as we did that with Cook, so it will be interesting to see who we like or if we swap for futures or try and trade in some players

Yes let’s interview him and let him know we’d love to “keep in touch” wherever he may go … probably GWS which means he’s gettable in 2-3 years time.
