Whether we like it or not it's something and something that could threaten to torpedo this ship but also bind us together. I don't know how it got to this point but we have to take the second option, there is no alternative.

    I love Melksham and he has given a fair bit to the club as well, love that he stood up for himself and his teammate, absolutely detest that he used violence. Hate it.

    Just hate all of it, leaves me with a sick feeling in my guts. Cant say too much more about it really. Its just a huge mess.

     

    Sums up my feeling perfectly (well, perhaps not the love Melk part, but i do like him).

    I think AA is extreme, however I would be very keen for the club to put some pressure on for him to give up the booze for the season. In a similar way a driver forfeits his right to driving when he breaks the law I feel that May has breached the club’s confidence in him being able to make the right decisions surrounding alcohol. Giving it up for the season shows genuine remorse and indicates we wants to do better for his teammates. 

    But hey maybe I’m sitting too high on my high horse. I just think his decision making has been [censored] poor and alcohol has played a big part.

    On what basis?

    And how does he feel about De Goey then? He must want a Royal Commission on that.

    If we’re looking at it purely from a breaching codes of conduct side of things, aside from making a clown of himself and clearly making poor choices what has he actually done that would require AFL intervention? If anything perhaps there could be an argument for the AFL enforcing a ban on Melksham for violent conduct, however he’s injured anyway. 

    Commentators and media pundits push these stories as far as they go because they know it gets more viewers, readers, listeners, and followers. It’s not because they think it’s right, it’s because they smell blood.

    From other occasions before arriving at melbourne he has history. Clearly it would be better if he did not drink. I can handle mine which a lot cannot.

    Devil's advocate for a second but there has to be a reason that more than one person is calling for AFL intervention other than purely having an agenda and being out to 'get us', supporting a team that is counter to us etc.

    A friend of mine who was a model citizen, capable, polite, always correct and popular when sober used to become a monster when he drank. Could not stop, became loud, aggressive and violent. He knew he had a problem and drank infrequently but if he relented and had one beer he had to keep drinking till he passed out or worse. Ruined his family and career and eventually topped himself. Anyone who becomes violent and unsociable because of drinking definitely has a serious problem..

    The AFL, probably due to the club's immediate action and communications with them, has handled this situtation well and as it should have been. Kudos to them at HO.

    Russell was comparing this to the QLd Hub issues with the Tiges, but the Tiges did a cover up  etc , and hence they were called out for more action.

    Goody knows there's complaceny about and called it out internally 3 weeks ago.

    Goody/Roffey/Pert/Richardson/Gawn/Viney/Lever.......   will not let this de-rail the hard work.

    That's my hope and trust in them anyway.

    I think it's neither. It's the media trying to force an issue as they always do. If they can put enough pressure on to force an AFL intervention, then the story continues or gets bigger - that's all they want! If nothing comes of it, the story will fade and they will move on to their next victim.

    Correct there is only one option but lots cannot achieve it.

    100%. The Media push these stories to keep themselves employed. The Bigger the HUN Headline the better. AFL 360 will be going full tilt. 
    If the altercation had not occurred it probably would be all Tasmania, but for now that is forgotten. 
    I wish the MFC would make one Statement and then Lock it down. It can be sorted internally, but won’t be sadly.

    Remember when Spargo and Pickett got suspended for taking an Uber during Covid, or when Oliver got caught drunk driving, or when TMac said vaccines shouldn’t be mandatory? I don’t really either - as I had to google all those stories to fact check.

    None of these things matter if the team plays well together. Take a deep breath, picture Gawn holding the cup, and let it blow over. The footy media is just bored as we are in the bye weeks. Don’t get sucked in.

      A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder.       What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
