So a new account of what is supposed to have happened appears every 12 hours and we see 5 pages of posters commenting on it as if it is an accurate account and wringing their hands. Then a new account appears and we are off again.

Typical of the frailty of a large proportion of human beings .

A summary would be appreciated.

A choice for whom?

Didn't take long for the Demons of old to be back  in the news for the wrong reasons, when you include the text messages BS of ex & current presidents!

The Momentum video of breaking the drought when Gawn is talking about how they changed they way the players spoke to each other professionally and making a commitment to each other, which helped change the culture is a slap in the face from May!

Going on past history most supporters will be fearing how the season will unfold.

Not sure why Goody hasn't addressed this with the media and is waiting until Friday presser, so its dragged on for the whole week.

This week is going to tell us quite a bit about just how good this team is

Coming off two disappointing losses, a week a utter stupidity and juvenile behaviour, players missing and out of form

I'm waiting for a big response - this week could be season defining - roll over like the Melbourne of old and it might be an ugly second half of a season that only a few weeks ago promised so much

The memory still burns of a club and its playing group who were best known as talking a big game and rarely if ever delivering - I really hope we aren't heading back to that place

We're not that club anymore. We proved it beyond any doubt last September

I agree this could be the spark that ignites our season

We’ve been off and apparently Goody has been concerned with complacency sinking in

Having the blow torch on us this week will shake us out of our lethargy

I expect a big performance against the pies and I expect to win

And Steven May, who has behaved like a complete prat, will be one of our best players for the rest of the season

Not sure what Goodwin can add.  Unless more stuff comes out before his scheduled pre-game press conf I hope he just plays questions with a straight bat and subtly steer the press snake pit to Daniher and MND.

Hopefully, footy tonight takes over as the main topic.

It is really sad that the May saga has completely overshadowed Daniher and MND.  Hopefully, the club gets that back in the limelight where it deserves to be.

We’ve talked about May and we’ve talked about Melksham, but I’m wondering what Joel Smith is currently thinking? We haven’t mentioned him. By all accounts he organised the dinner and presumably asked the 5 or 6 others to attend. So a close knit bunch of guys, friends, going to dinner. Then Joel, by all accounts, is verbally denigrated by one of said friends. If I was Joel, would I want to be playing down back with that person any more? He obviously doesn’t trust or believe in me. I think I might ask Goody if I can train with the forwards from now on.

It will be interesting to see how (and if) the fences can be mended after this. I have my doubts they can.

Always been an advocate for Joel to be up forward. Can obviously leap and either take a mark or provide a contest.

Has the speed to get off his man on the lead.

Sadly i think that time has passed.

We may never know what exactly was said and it probably doesn't really matter but we have heard Max joke after a game previously about May being critical of Joel Smith (it was portrayed as a joke at the time)

If true May needs to STFU and just play good footy instead of judging other players - the huge irony of course is that if Smith was fit he would more than likely be taking May's place this week

I'm also an advocate of Smith being player forward and I do not agree that time is passed

I believe it has to happen through necessity - our tall forwards are either serial non-performers or close to or past their prime

JVR is a future prospect for 2nd or 3rd tall - Smith has the weapons to be difficult to stop if trained properly as a forward

I dont want to under play this, because its bad, but the constant media attention on it is heightened because of the split rounds for the next couple of weeks. Footy media wont leave this alone unless we win well on Monday

The club has liaised with the AFL.  They have agreed to mfc actions and penalties imposed.

Last night he tried to compare it to the Shane Bolton nightclub incident where the AFL stepped in and imposed a $20k fine.  The AFL stepped in because Richmond didn't tell the whole story, said 'nothing to see' and took no action.  The Bolton story is worse than May as he belted a member of the public and Richmond failed to act.  Not sure that Bolton ever apologised.

Whately knows all that but it suits his agenda to not tell the complete Bolton story.

It will be a very bad precedent if the AFL, having been involved, steps in at this stage as it will be in response to the bloodlust of the media.  I don't often give the AFL credit but I very much doubt they will want to be seen to be led by media pressure.

I'd like to see AFL reporters be compelled to disclose which clubs they support ahead of their segments/articles (akin to finance journalism). Would put an interesting perspective on the various positions they argue for.

Whately barracks for Geelong.  He would have bitter memories of nd 23 and PF in 2021.  He would be very happy to see us drop from top 2 or even from top 4.

And if we lose to Collingwood the whole sh-t storm continues until we win again which could be weeks away.

And I just can't wait (Not) until the media start talking about our 'privileged', silver tail club whose players go to posh french restaurants.  That should set off a feeding frenzy to his talk back audience for a few days.

who set Spargo on fire, or did Bowey light a fart?

FMD I am going to enjoy a win on QB, Petracca or Clarrie to bust 50 possies, Viney to have 10 tackles, Langdon 500m+ gained, Jackson 4 Goals, Kossie finally take mark of the year, Gawn to kick 2 x 50m goals and be anointed God.

Don’t hold your breath mate.

He’s been garbage this year.

I would love an even harder stance (like NBA coaches) and just refuse to answer questions in regard to it, citing that both Max & Richardson have spoken on the topic and for him to only answer questions regarding to Monday's game and Daniher/MND.

AFL Players & Coaches are forced far too much to straight bat back to media reporters. They should just refuse to answer questions. In some instances in the NBA, certain players don't answer ANY questions from certain media reporters that they either don't like or feel they have an agenda, same with coaches as well.

I’ve got a t-shirt that’s got “Froffies May” written on it, but I actually think he needs to put the beers away. I’m not saying he’s an alcoholic but this has shown the alcohol does have a negative influence on him, I would like the club to strongly urge him to place a ban on alcohol for the duration of the season.

My opinion of Melksham has actually increased since this since he was the one sticking up for his teammate and questioning a leader for drinking whilst in recovery from a concussion.

Given Max’s great ability in front of the media, I don’t think we need to hear from Goody. Our system and culture is a player-driven one, so the players can speak up.

More pertinently, I’m sure the club don’t want to take the spotlight off the Big Freeze and Fight MND. No doubt, some journos will end up hijacking the MND press conferences and build up, in the hope of snagging a sensationalist quote, but hopefully most will show some restraint and self-respect.

So your opinion of someone increases when they enact violence?

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
