Steven May Suspended by the Club

It's definitely high time for the leaders of the club to step up, stop the bleeding and get us back on track. we've had 2 flat weeks due to injury and poor form after a 10-0 start to the week and suddenly all the wheels are falling off.

Queens birthday we need a statement win and nothing less. go into the bye with some momentum and the league getting a firm reminder that the MFC is still the team to beat.

Once 4 years ago at this club, since then he has turned into a great leader of  the club. Some posters have gone over the top and I regards yours that way as well.

30 year old "leaders"  should know better mate

Does that include Petracca? Who is happy to whinge about fans, despite having 6 years to correct his ball drop and goal kicking, yet has done nothing about it? Case of the massive head wobbles? He is amongst the worst to do it. We owe him a lot, but his form is patchy and inconsistent. His disposal efficiency is terrible. So when can we expect the elite response from him? Will he stand back up for the big game? I mean, will it depend in whether he is happy with the level of support? Max tried to carry the entire team on his back last week. Viney has tried his guts out too. Lever has plenty of leadership left in him. ANB too....but the biggest response must come from the midfield, who have been beaten at clearances and used the ball poorly in general play. A lot of the selfishness of 2020 creeping back in. over to you...

It's certainly been a big news day for us. People will think we are unravelling.

Well I'm extremely angry & disappointed at May. He should have known about the concussion protocols & alcohol.

We desperately need him back, we have lost 2 in a row, have a massive game on queen's birthday & now he misses.its his own fault & I hope he sits there Monday & realises what an [censored] he was.

Also why didn't the players step in & point out the alcohol, or maybe Jake did & Steven didn't like hearing that.

Suddenly our club is in the headlines & not for the right reasons

Was just speaking to someone who's well connected down there.

Steven May's cousin, who he was close with passed away only last week which has completely shocked his family.

This probably explains why he was on the drink.

Bit defeatist. Are we now a one man team?

Yeah, but we have all seen how important May is to the structure of the backline. Lever is playing like a C grader without May. Cannot win one-on-one and has made critical errors under pressure. It affects are entire plans in defence. It won't be the same without May.

I'd say that Petracca was pretty selfless against Fremantle when despite feeling like S@#$ he still took the field, granted it was clearly misguided but i don't think it's fair to suggest the selfish tendancies are back, the wheels aren't off, we just need to re-set and we will be fine.

Honestly i don't know if it's MFCSS but if we all got offered at the start of the year to be 10-2 and a game clear on top of the ladder at the conclusion of round 12, at the start of the year, i'd suggest all supporters would take it and be thrilled.

Potentially it's us fans who bought into the rubbish about us going undefeated who are a little bit sour with the reality check and need to remember how young this group is, we will be down in patches, but we know our best is the best and all that really matters is that come finals we're playing our best footy.

Agree with all of that, but I asked the question, are we a one man team?

It will be harder, but we can win without May and if we can’t win games without him, we have serious problems.

Is this necessary????

There’s a five lettered word that also sums up May. H-U-M-A-N

Sure and when he did it last time I gave him the benefit, like I had when he showed up unfit and spent most of that year injured and unfit.

He has been in an AFL system for 11 years, he knows he shouldn’t be drinking, sure others might have told him too but he is a bloody adult, he knows better.

[censored] happens. It's how the club and leadership handle it.

In this case they are doing just fine in upholding standards.

Oh gees. Well, the good thing about how quickly this forum turns on its players, its team and itself for being human and making mistakes is im confident they will surely flip when said humans win a few games and then get the fake "support"  back again. Lol

I would like to see us try a replacement though. Rather than just seeing how it pans out. Turner or Daw, just to give opposition a different look

HE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO “WHINGE” ABOUT (LACK OF) FANS!

He owes us nothing. NOTHING. We, on the other hand owe him and indeed the whole club everything. They won a freaking premiership for us ffs. Remember, a premiership? That thing that we all wanted so badly for so long? Your cavalier attitude is insufferable.

The big news here isn't even that he was drinking and that they had a scuffle.

It was that they immediately self reported and the club was pretty swift in deciding action.

It shows strong leadership and self-awareness. A blip on the radar.

Dees by 8 goals.

Wouldn't be too impressed that they self reported, they were at a public place it would have gotten back to the club and they would've known that

Unbelievable and suggest his tummy is full after winning a flag, they say handling success is more difficult than handling no success!

Concern is will the supporters get back to seeing the Demons of old again??

I'd say May's tummy isn't the only one that's full going by the past 2 weeks.

This week could prove to be a catalyst to get back into form. The team is feeling some serious heat for the first time this year and should be out to prove a point.

And so should all our fans. Rock up to the G this Monday and support our team.  They did it for us last year, let’s back them in right now - when they really need us.

The timing is not ideal but he’s got credits in the bank. AA last year and should have been AA the year before.

He’s not the first bloke to get on the turps when he shouldn’t, and he won’t be the last. He’s been punished so I expect that to be the end of it

I’m backing him in to be one of our best players v the Lions

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
