Any notes on AVR?  How is he handling the slippery conditions?

Massive brain / skill fade by Dustan just before the end which may sun up why he is only depth despite last years Downlow votes.

It’s not slippery. He was good, competed well, chases, makes good position. Didn’t stand out today.

Other opinions are available. Was in the best for me, and JVR was far from ‘disappointing’.

Just like their senior counterparts.
So nobody to pressure BBB in particular who has really struggled post covid.  Seriously does he need some down time to recuperate?.

How was Daniel Turner.

Very good from the 3/4 of the game I saw. Already looks a class above at this level.

Great.

He was close to BOG last week when I watched him play.

TEN by KC from Casey

The slippery surface of the MCG was a minor detail for the Casey Demons as they waltzed away from the Sydney Swans to record their tenth win on end in their Saturday afternoon curtain raiser.

The Demons conceded the first goal of the game before recording the next three (two to Sam Weideman) to hold a 16 point lead at the first break before the Swans pegged that back to a mere three points at half time. Casey dominated the third term with four goals to nil and thereafter the Swans’ resistance dropped off with the Demons home in a canter to win by 39-points.

Weideman is proving enigmatic. In between his six goals a few weeks ago against North Melbourne VFL and yesterday’s three-goal and 10-mark performance, he failed to have any impact at AFL level against Fremantle and yet Ben Brown’s poor form and the doubt on Tom McDonald’s ankle mandates that he be given another chance at the higher level. That would also be a consideration for Jacob Van Rooyen but he failed to trouble the scorers on his return from illness. Yet he used his body well and provided Majak Daw with a chop out in ruck duels. And of course, who ever heard of selecting a blond rookie key forward to play Collingwood on Queens Birthday?

One player who would be a certainty to play against the Magpies is Trent Rivers (25 disposals, six marks) who was strong in defence all day. Both Oskar Baker and Luke Dunstan picked up 24 touches. Kade Chandler, Jake Melksham and Michael Hibberd were handy. Daniel Turner underlined his improvement - he is marking strongly and learning to ply the backman’s trade.

Of the Casey listed players George Grey showed some touches of brilliance and kicked three goals. Jimmy Munro (23 disposals, 10 clearances) and defender Corey Ellison also continued his recent strong form of late.

I'll second that.  Was a stand out for second week running and played out the full four quarters.

Ellison, without being brilliant, also played well i thought.  Guy has some real footy smarts with the ability to evade and find that extra bit of time & space to execute.  Worth keeping an eye on.

Agree re Turner he is putting together some solid form

He looks like a very solid defensive option in time and can’t be too far away from getting a chance in the AFL

When he does I hope he has the other generals around him (May, Lever, Salem) etc to help ease him into the higher level

Yep, needed a run at Casey to get back some form and confidence.

Now we need to do the same for Bowey, Sparrow, Jackson and others.

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round.
