Maggots Magpies and Muppets

Every Tom, Dick and Harry in the league seemingly wants to be a showman in the prepost- Gillon era. Razor Ray showing the way for the umpiring fraternity, but at least he’s got a sense of humour.

Now it appears a writhing, squirming bunch of no-name underlings are seeking the limelight.

All wishing to get a lick of the ice-cream. Generously the lions last night were given two free “scoops”, (one in a scoring chain resulting in a goal).

Which put to bed the rather hallucinatory suggestion, an in-house conspiracy theorist put out there. That the umpires favoured a collingwood victory.

With the Gill succession now a hot topic in media circles and on D’land. The idea of a Disney executive as a possible successor to “His Gilloness” is not as absurd as it sounds. After all we do have ‘Marvel’ stadium. The league is not just a sport competition but mass entertainment. Strap yourself in folks tonight’s episode takes you too…

…fantasyland.

Amazing stat and shows how amazing our team defence has been, all through 2020.  Even the last 7 games of 2019!

Amazing stat.  Especially when the only reason Brisbane are not at 5 is because we kicked 13.15 in the final against them.

Who can rid me of this meddlesome umpiring?

sue - that runs off the tongue in an almost Shakesperian way.

Slim 'pickens' in FNQ today.

Cranked up the dvd - currently watching Killers live at Albert Hall; crowd looks so English.....

Then for a change of pace the prelim final.....

Anyone playing today....

“Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?" or  meddlesome priest. A quote attributed to King Henry the 8th when he was wanting to get rid of Archbishop Thomas a Becket before he had him assasinated. I guess umpires are like priests and their reputations have also fallen.

I think Geelong ( yuk ) and St Kilda are a bigger threat than Brisbane ATM.

Henry VIII was man ahead of his times but not that far ahead. It was Henry II actually. Then some [censored] went out and stabbed he priest and Henry's troubles were only starting.

Nothing like a discussion of the reformation on such a day.

Few people understand that the reformation followed from the printing of the Bible and it being available to be read by those outside the priesthood.

Anyway ... Go Roos

Thanks, typo error.

I wouldn't go as far as stabbing.  But meddlesome umpire/AFL HQ seems very apt.  I find it particulary humourous that the when they pay a free for the most flagrant deliberate OOB, the umpires now shout 'insufficient intent'.   Would the player have avoided the penalty if they had been even more deliberate?

Not being a biblical scholar in any way, but I strongly suspect that there are fewer grey areas than in the Australian Rules official rule book.

Unbelievable, can you imagine a Grand Final being decided on this shockingly considered, administered and thought up rule. Umpires will love it... look at me look at me!

Most probably so ... if you were in the particular colours.

When I’m watching games involving the Bulldogs, I find myself concentrating more on the free kick count than the scores… 5 minutes in and already 4-0 in their favour.

Love it or hate it, the Pies have to hold onto Mason Cox until other, younger big forwards develop. They have to have someone/something to aim at inside the F50. But they will not make the finals again with Cox as a main target. The Pies system looks good, but need to learn when to quell the manic press forward. Once they get the right personnel, they will rise but I reckon it is two years away.

The Lions will challenge us, especially while we are such a long way off our best footy. Same with the Cats.

Watching the Roos v Dogs is tough.

They've conjured up a game that's less interesting than the Good Friday appeal.

Seriously Brian Taylor, is he the best we can do?

He is amazed that full back McKay hasn’t kicked a goal yet 🙄

That 50m penalty to the Bulldogs was the worst 50 in the history of the AFL.

Weightman couldn't throw himself backwards any further. That stuff should start being fined to get it out of the game.

Yeah I don’t love Cody Weightman at all.

Throws his head back every week

Weightman milking that free for all it’s worth. Sure, can get angry at the Dogs, but the microscope needs to be put squarely on the umpires during Bullfrog games.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
