Success is a bit of a catch-22 for time slots:

Prime Time, night FTA great for sponsors and fans to watch on tv.  Perhaps not so good for gate revenue as families and those averse to crowded public transport/covid risk/no mcg parking are less likely to attend.

FGS  We must be the only Club that has supporters that winge  and whine about prime spots for games.

Get used to success and the spoils either in marketing exposure and fame.

We dont want to go back to below 20,,000 daytime at the G which makes the G look like a disaster  zone. That's why we come under ridicule fir low crowds.
if the players are any where any time any whatever support them.

Not having prime time night games is paramount to marketing death and we can't afford that in our push by the Club  for its 4 year plan etc, and the benefits of growth that go with it.

I don’t think anyone is whinging, it has just been noted that families haven’t been able to attend, especially country based families with younger kids. Get a grip muscles.

Please don't swear at me.

Below 20,000 was when we were losing and playing local losing, franchise or interstate clubs.  WE are no longer that club.

I wasn't complaining about night games or FTA games.  I said success is a catch 22:  night games can benefit sponsors but cost us gate revenue if fans can't go for a variety of reasons.  So not sure what your angst is about.

Do you really think we will get more people (ie higher gate revenue) to the GWS game this week because it is on a Saturday night right in the middle of a long weekend in the middle of school holidays?  Gate revenue is huge for us and we need crowds at our Home games.

In Round 9 we've got West Coast in Perth in the Sunday twilight slot. I'd be pretty happy for Round 10 to be a Sunday game.

Round 11 I could easily see our home game vs Fremantle being Saturday twilight - suits the WA audience but isn't prime time. Collingwood v Carlton and Sydney v Richmond will be getting the prime time slots you'd think.

Round 12 we play Sydney at the G. Only Bulldogs v Geelong is a contender for prime time that round, on current form. So we could see back-to-back six-day breaks again, if we go Sunday v North into Saturday v Fremantle into Friday v Sydney. But then would have a 10-day break into Queen's Birthday.

Sorry if I offended You LH.

But you can't have it both ways

You  ARE complaining about Night  games and FTA and coming up with multiple reasons why we won't get crowds at those games!! School hols are for 2 weeks so let's suspend AFL games!!

The  Sat night is fine for a crowd in the middle of Easter as Sunday is not a school day. Did you want the game at 1.10pm Ssturday or ssy 3.20 pm Sunday?

Why Will we get any more at those times in the middle of Easter ? ( or School Hols)

Where  is your proof that any more revenue for the Club will be raised at those times?

What you should be complaining about is the Sunday May 8 Mother's Day  1.10 pm time slot!! Vs Saints. Any fixture at the G on Mothers Day is a crowd killer about 5.000 more down than usual.

My point is that if you keep having unpopular opponent teams at early day weekend time Slots  you will go back to low attendances and lose valuable corporate revenue at the same time.

Wr should be used to  mask wearing on public transport and why is the public car park at the G any more closed on Sat  night than 18 hours later on Sunday?

Sorry  your argument does not stack up for the Club revenue as you wouldn't have any figures to prove it. It is merely your preference in time slots it appears.

The big Clubs don't carry on like this You will always get a time slot that's inconvenient to someone.
well if it's not whinging what is it? Agreement ??

Thank you.

I actually like going to night games.

My comments were primarily about attendances and gate takings of day vs night games in the current environment.  I'll leave the discussion at that.

"good sides get rewarded with prime time"

[censored] off afl.

Melbourne Fremantle is currently 1st v 3rd.

Richmond are bang average and Sydney arent great.

I know we aren't on because its two smaller clubs.

Its a real shame we aren't playing in Alice in the Indigenous round especially as we didn't get to play a game there at all last year.

iirc we are usually one of the Saturday night bookends for that week/fortnight.

It would make sense for us to play the round 11 game vs Freo in Alice and play the later season vs Port game at the G instead of Alice.  Not a big change as we usually play a WA or SA teams in Alice; just change the venue no need to change dates.

The Alice folk would love to see a 1st vs 3rd game.  A real shame for all.

Round 11 - Graveyard shift at Marvel v North. To be expected as it's a nothing game in terms of ratings. At least the there's no schlepping to Tassie again.

Round 12 - Game of the round - Melb v Freo! Graveyard shift again! Codswallop. AFL can GAGF

I'll take that. Ease into the day with a late Saturday start time and home by midnight after a few jars. By the time round 11 rolls around it'll be 1st against 10th, not 3rd. Very happy we've avoided the 3.20pm Sunday slot thus far.

Don't know what the NT have done wrong to get two back to back GC games against North and Hawthorn. I thought we were trying to promote footy up there.

Little sucky that we get two graveyard slots in a row, and a coupe of weeks before hand we’re on Mother’s Day Sunday which traditionally doesn’t draw the best crowd.

That said it’ll be good to be in a time that families can go.

I kind of understand the nth game at 4:35 but surely we could have slotted in a 1:45 slot instead of brisbane v gws or even geelong. Put them on at 4:35. We are the reigning premiers, we shouldn't be in that timeslot and also Freo are currently 3rd.

I am also perplexed about the crappy time slot for the Freo game. Perhaps it’s due to the time difference in Perth?

The timeslot for the North game isn’t bad given we all have to vote in the election during the day.

I suspect that many people have already made up their minds and will be voting early.

Early voting is available in the two weeks leading up to election day.

While I predicted the graveyard shift for the Mel v Freo game it's not a great outcome.

But to be bumped by Suns v Hawks for the prime TV game.... wow

I can see the reasoning, the broadcasters loves the dusk setting for the NT games, it has to be prime time… the teams however are a talking point. As others have noted the Suns back to back in NT?! Again looks like the AFL offering them handouts when we’ve worked that market very hard for a long time.
