This is another AFL joke of a decision.

There is just no incentive at all in the NGA anymore.

Main thing though is that Dogs got JUH.

every incentive for gc17. gw$, and the swans, who retain their 'rights' to players

the concessions given to gc17 are a joke

Wrong.  Jokes are humorous.

From Scouting Notes: 2022 AFL U18s – South Australia vs. Vic Country

#13 Finn Emile-Brennan (Dandenong Stingrays)
7/05/2004 | 181cm | 62kg | Defender

“The Melbourne Next-Generation Academy member certainly has some eye-catching traits, and showcased all of them in a promising representative outing. Operating in his usual role off half-back, Emile-Brennan was aggressive with his rebound run and kicking, displaying great athleticism to break the lines and surge Country forward. He was shifted up to the wing in term four, with his punchy ball use a feature among 19 touches.”

Under the Radar: AFL Draft prospects on the precipice

“Finn Emile-Brennan (Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Country)
7/05/2004 | 181cm | 62kg | Defender
What he does well:
A silky smooth and skilful rebound defender, Emile-Brennan is the first and only club-tied talent on this list. The Melbourne Next Generation Academy (NGA) member will make the Demons sweat, given he could well be considered a top 40 talent, making him unavailable via bidding rules. He can play above his 181cm listing, but looks most potent when surging the ball out of defensive 50 and utilising his booming boot in transition.
The knock:
While certainly capable of impacting in an aerial sense with his notable athleticism, size works against Emile-Brennan in another sense. He is still quite lean at 62kg and, suffice to say, has some filling out to do. He may well remain that skinner defender, akin to the likes of Kade Simpson, but could encounter some difficulties against bigger bodies at senior level. Sustaining his impact throughout games is another area the young gun can work on.”

Lucky he isn't a skinner ruckman or he would go top 5!

Thanks WJ. It’s a good summation of FEB.  I think he’s got AFL qualities no doubt, and probably going to be draft range around the 40-50 mark. Love to see us get him as we can let him develop over his initial 2 years with plenty of gym work and in the Casey program.
Not too sure Clarke and Binns are under the radar as they have shown brightly in the U18s championships.  Both would be excellent in red and blue.

Not considered in the top 40. We should be able to claim him with a later pick. It would be great to have an elite kick in our squad.

Wait a minute, the qualifying factor to make our Academy is that your mum has to come from Mauritius?

No wonder we don’t seem to have many coming through.

I'm not sure if this is serious or a joke, but the qualifying factor is players born in certain regions (parts of NT and South East Melbourne) of either Indigenous backgrounds, who were born overseas or having parent(s) who were born overseas.

The reason it's such a farce is because you can be born in an African refugee camp, moved to Australia not knowing anything about Aussie Rules (or anything about Australia for that matter) or you can be born to Australian parents with strong football backgrounds who were temporarily living overseas and be equally eligible.

To exclude kids born o/s when their parents were temporarily there I don't know why they don't make the o/s criteria that you or one of your parents have to have also grown up speaking a language other than English. Might get a few dodgy claims but it's not like the system is fair at the moment...

Will be on show in the NAB League Grand Final on Friday evening.

Fantastic to hear! Let's hope he plays well but not too well.

We don't want another Mac Andrew situation to arise with another NGA player for the Demons. I still feel we were definitely cheated by the AFL in what happened there! 🤬

Might be missing something but he sounds a lot like Bowey and in need of improvement on the defensive side of his game. I'd be looking for more a lockdown type for our backline's future. I'm sure there's plenty more to this though.

Make a statement, save money - close the academy and pick up prospects from other club’s development.

Finn played well in a badly beaten up side last night in the NAB League GF. His stats were 14 kicks, 3 handballs which was one disposal less than the best for the Stingrays (Jaxon Binns) and strangely enough, the most kicks. He disposes of the ball very nicely and could do with a couple of pre seasons at AFL level, possibly as a rookie.

Finn’s a terrible person who makes jokes about Jake Melksham’s child and is a difficult team mate.

(None if that is true but we need to keep spreading information to make sure he doesn’t go top 40)

Yes likely as a rookie. He has good foot skills which would improve our team and transition.  I agree he’s in need of 2-3 years in the gym.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
