Bulldogs Team:

B: Ed Richards, Alex Keath, Bailey Williams
HB: Caleb Daniel, Zaine Cordy, Bailey Dale
C: Bailey Smith, Josh Dunkley, Lachie Hunter
HF: Cody Weightman, Josh Schache, Adam Treloar
F: Laitham Vandermeer, Aaron Naughton, Jason Johannisen
R: Tim English, Jack Macrae, Marcus Bontempelli
Int: Stefan Martin, Tom Liberatore, Mitch Hannan, Roarke Smith
Emer: Ryan Gardner, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Robbie McComb, Hayden Crozier

Hunt and Joel Smith in the same baseline looks way too shaky for me.

Harmes named on the HBF … discuss!

They have gone for the extra midfielder I don't really like it. It means Brayshaw plays down back. I wasn't overly impressed with him down back last week.

I think Dunstan will be sub.

Casey possible team

B: Woewodin, Turner, D.Smith

HB: Baker, Tomlinson, McVee

C: Rosman, Dunstan, Howes

HF: Melksham, van Rooyen, Chandler

F: Moniz-Wakefield, Weideman, M.Brown

FOLL: Daw, Laurie, Bedford

IC: White, Zaharakis, Buntine, Lonie

EMERG: Reid, Munro, Grey

I questioned the selectors many times last year and they proved me wrong everytime (2019/2020 a different story ). I'll back them in.

I suspect Tomlinson is out because they don't think his knee is ready for a full on 120 minutes of football.  As it is, he has made an amazing comeback from an ACL in 8 months whereas it is usually 10-12 months.

Edit: @Roost it farhas correctly posted it is 10 months since he did his ACL.

Suspect they don't want to take any chances with it.

Would have had Tomlinson over Smith but the brains trust got it right all through last year so i'll back them in regards Smith

Just now, whatwhat say what said:

so after all that hunter has been picked

Maybe a deliberate leak, mind games and all that.  If so it means nought to Goodwin and co.  They run their own race.

The coaching squad have a great deal of faith in Joel Smith, hope he justifies it and proves so many of us doubters wrong

And prove some of us right

Dogs aren't exactly flush for key forwards. May takes Naughton, Smith takes Schache and Lever takes Hannan. Martin isn't a factor up forward, so if English plays deep, Max will push back.

Tomlinson is only 8 months from his ACL. This will be a white hot game. I can understand why he hasn't been selected.

If they can just play there roles and don’t try be a star I don’t think we loose much, certainly not with dogs smaller fwd line. The question is can they limit them self to doing that

Tomlinson is now 10 months from his ACL. Doesn’t matter, we’ll unfurl the flag, have a beer or 2 and watch our boys head back to the top of the ladder…….. Go Dees, looking forward to losing my voice

He wasn’t exactly ‘managed’ for TOG in the practice games and got a fair bit of it too.
Still two weeks away from VFL commencing.

Eeeekkk Smith, Hunt and Harmes (assuming he goes anywhere near the backline) is not ideal to say the least. Tomo is very stiff, you would assume the old “you need to get some match fitness” routine.
I’m a lot less confident but it’ll be amazing to see how Lever and May can drag those guys and the team close to a win or over the line.

Can’t wait to see how both sides have set up this season and attack this match.

But we don't know how he pulled up from that much game time.

I have never actually expressed my scepticism here, fact is the brains trust know more than me and have the runs on the board.

I loved his dad as a player and desperately want to see Joel succeed, but can’t say I have the confidence that the coaches have in him

Hnmm Not all that happy with his omission, he has done everything right at training and in games practice!! Totally Mystifying!!

Harmes on  a HBF?????? Seriously give me a break!

I too am not thrilled with that backline but you need to work with what you have.
I don’t think Harmes being named half back means anything. Hunt is named on the bench and he will simply play at half back while Harmes plays half forward and mid. Gus will stay on the wing hopefully. He only goes back in case of emergency like when we had no Salem either.
I don’t mind us naming an extra mid. We know this is the strength of the Dogs and we might have specific roles for JJ or Harmes anyway.

Who do we think will be the sub?

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
