AFL has declared first round no walk up.

Because their ticketing system is a joke and isn't ready yet!

In the post GF delirium I kind of lost track with anything other than the flag celebrations. I assume Bont isn't playing next week after being rubbed out for his head high hit on Clarry in the GF?

I hope you mean non-members wanting to purchase a ticket on the day and not walk up GA members with their barcode?

Its rather odd that Queensland authorities are facing a 'roadblock' in contacting his legal team.  One would think Smith would want it sorted asap as the season is about to start.

Park bench No. 4, Treasury Gardens. Very comfortable, quiet, vacant and often allows for a view of the stars. Short walk to the tram stop in the morning. Ideal, as usual. :-)

I have a sneaking suspicion that the dogs will be hungrier than us for this one.

I'd reckon that the Dogs are going to be twice as 5hitfaced as they were at the end of the GF, as well.

Zero chance of 80K on a wednesday night against the dogs with plenty of covid still around.  Maybe they are trying to pump up the game and encourage neutrals?

how would they even be able to give an estimate when the majority of people attending will scan their imemberships?

warm weather will help, but I'll be stoked with 60K

Does anyone know about seating on Level 1? Is it available for general admission? If not, can you then get, or purchase, a reserve seat?

I sat on the phone this morning for 50 minutes with an "extremely high number of calls" message and finally got cut off with the message "there are no operators available".

Would like to reserve seats for 5 x GA members on Level 1 just for Wednesday, but it's not critical.

Unless I misunderstood the AFL email, everyone attending needs a reserved seat.

interesting, hopefully they are on the same page.  I got this email from MFC an hour ago:

Melbourne Members will now scan into the MCG using the Melbourne Football Club app on iPhone and Android devices. You will no longer need to redeem a ticket via Ticketek and your plastic membership card no longer comes with a barcode to access the ground.

The club's email to members says GA entry is available in designated area.  I assume that means areas that haven't been reserved for premium memberships and Ticketek sales.  I'd guess non-reserved GA seating is in the not so good areas.

Ticket sales for reserved seats are currently available via the Ticketek website.

I've taken the liberty of outlining the ticket process for anyone reading this who isn't familiar with Ticketek.

As an aside, @WalkingCivilWarmay like to add to this process as she purchased tickets from Ticketek earlier this week.

Just got an AFL email explaining how to do General admission on my AFL account.

The hardest thing was finding the page to "sign in" to the AFL app which is the main gateway.

Got there but it wasn't intuitive and I can't really remember the path except that it was first to the AFL app and then naviagte to membership which in turn took me to a ticketek site.

Simple and easy.... no

Very clunky.. yes

That sure makes it confusing.

I'm pretty sure this bit:  You will no longer need to redeem a ticket via Ticketek  refers to last year when covid rules applied to ticketing and venue access.

As far as I can tell, a barcode (ie on an electronic ticket from Ticketek or MFC app for members) is needed to get into the MCG.  No paper ticket or plastic member card entry will be allowed.

Edit:  Don't know what happens for 'tickets' sold at the gate or if walk-up are allowed.

This may be a case of the blind leading the blind. Despite the much appreciated help I received from you, Luci, I’m still not sure what I did.
As I mentioned to you, I wanted to ensure that I could sit where I normally like to, ie., ground level, on the wing, and as close to the fence as poss. I read on here at some point that it was reserved seats only for this match so, not wanting to risk missing out, I just went ahead and purchased through Ticketek.
So yeah, short answer: I’m no [censored] help at all. Soz.

A couple of mixed messages here. Have a couple of friends that won’t decide until the day if they are going to the game next week and want to know if the general public can walk up to a ticket box on the night and purchase tickets.
Someone posted here a week ago or so on another thread that ticket boxes will be open at the G and an article on AFL site also suggests the same. Has this changed in the last couple of weeks?

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
