Finals are not included in BandF counts.

Are you sure? They are obviously not in Brownlow because not every team plays.

But it would make no sense to stop the votes during the most important games of the year.

Some say public speaking is feared second only to dying.  Then daylight. Why should Clarry be any different to most.

Agree. Whilst Clarry called himself out for a s$&t speech, I thought it just added to the triumph our club has become. We value honesty and effort, and Clarry brought both to this being crowned the best this year and his effort in that speech. The fact he doesn't have the polish of a used car salesman just adds to his persona.

I just hope he signs a Trac sized demon for life deal soon.

Not that I have found.  We do have the top ten at end of season.  For those players:

Finals Points:
102 (PPG: 34.00)– Christian Petracca
094 (PPG: 31.33)– Clayton Oliver
091 (PPG: 30.33)– Max Gawn
086 (PPG: 28.67)– Christian Salem
078 (PPG: 26.00)– Jake Lever
078 (PPG: 26.00)– Alex Neal-Bullen
066 (PPG: 22.00)– Ed Langdon
060 (PPG: 20.00)– Kysaiah Pickett
046 (PPG: 23.00)– Steven May
034 (PPG: 11.34)– Tom McDonald

Umm…………..yes they are.

I agree DD at the end of Round 23 Clayton was high 500’s and his final count was high 600’s.!!

And players such as Fritsch, Brown, Bowey, Brayshaw, Jackson & Viney would have polled well during the finals

But apart from those 6 players there are others such as Rivers, Petty, Harmes, Sparrow, Hibberd & Spargo who all contributed during the finals.  No underperformers

I mistakenly had May at 2 games given his injury for some reason.  He played 50% game time vs Geelong.
046 (PPG: 15.34)– Steven May (3 games)
046 (PPG: 18.40)– Steven May (2.5 games)

---

Also, compared with their overall points per game, our end of home and away season top 5 changed their points per game in the finals by:

+8.65 Max Gawn
+8.24 Christian Petracca
+7.79 Christian Salem
+4.53 Clayton Oliver
+1.71 Ed Langdon

I used to live 2 doors down from Clarko. When I came home from a very long lunch I saw him  in his driveway and asked him if he would prefer Cripps or Oliver. He said Cripps. I argued.

No wonder he got the sack.

He was great bloke though by the way.

I get the impression that he was winding you up.

It was a few years ago now. Everyone thought Cripps was better except Dees supporters.

You won't find many saying Cripps is better today.

You sound exactly like me, Mazer. I’m still saying this to anyone who’ll listen and even a few who won’t; well, tbh, to myself mostly. 😁 Melbourne… Premiers. Still feels a little incongruous.

Last Saturday Whispering Jack reminded us that next Saturday, xmas day, will mark three months since that absolutely glorious night in September. Three months!!! Not only has time flown, but this awesome post-premiership feeling hasn’t diminished one iota. Moreover, it hasn’t fully sunk in. Well, for me, anyways. I don’t know if it ever will. And you know what??? I don’t mind if it never does!
WE ARE PREMIERS!!!!

❤️💙❤️💙
(Probs should’ve posted this in the “That Premiership Feeling” thread.)

Went to the museum today so see/handle the cup and the popular comment was that we are still basking & enjoying the premiership, but by god next year's season is nearly here.  Also was advised that the Demon shop is overflowing with stock which are still in boxes. Containers just arrived. Will go down during the week and spend. I have been waiting as I want my hard earned to go directly to the club.  Plenty of kids there today. Future is bright ladies & gents.

It’ll be March 16th before we know it! Of course, it’s exciting when you think that we get to open the season, and it being our first game in the defence of the title of PREMIERS. But at the same time I kinda don’t want it to come too soon. Still totally enjoying this post-premiership feeling. 🙂❤️💙

If the voting system is exponential and a 3-4 out of 10 is doing your job for the team then that sounds about right. Gus had a huge number of games where he really was ordinary at best, I'm thinking at least 6 or more where he wouldn't have hit the 3 mark. Then a lot of his games were probably around the 3-5. With a small handful of very good games scoring 6+ that counter out the games where he didn't play well.

I might be wrong here, but my assumption has always been that if a player didn't perform well enough in a certain game, then they wouldn't receive any votes from the coaches. Which would mean that the lowest amount of votes you could get in a game would be about 5/10 (and by extension, 5/40 if only one of 4 coaches gave them votes). I make this assumption based on two factors:

  • It seems weird that coaches would bother giving out scores of 1-4 to players for a game when the purpose of the award is to reward and acknowledge good efforts.
  • I recall a post-match press conference where an ex-coach (I think it was Roos) mentioned that it was the first game in which every player on the list got a vote in the B+F. It's possible that different coaching panels have interpreted the system differently, but you would assume it's been done the same way since this voting system has been around.

Article on the club's website with all the award winners says 4 coaches give players votes between 0-10 after every game

Harmes may have only finished 19th in the bluey but it sounded like he polled maximum votes on the night.

Goody also sounded quite refreshed during his speech, but it was a good speech.

Yes, all 4 coaches voted him BOG.

"Petracca was the only player on the list to play what the coaches deemed to be a ‘perfect game’ this season, earning 40 out of a possible 40 votes in the Grand Final after a Norm Smith Medal winning performance".

2021-best-and-fairest-all-the-winners

I couldn't find GF votes for other players.

What we can guess is that Max (3 Finals average of 30 votes) scored very highly in the PF.  Oliver was consistent across all three finals and averaged 31 votes.  Petracca was in the same range (average for two finals of 31 votes)  and excelled in the GF with a 'perfect game'.  Not far behind was them Salem them (Finals average of 29) who probably polled highly in the GF.

How doesn't Oliver get 40/40 against the Crows?

Our entire midfield (including Oliver) went missing for large chunks of that game.

Shame you weren't here when Deeluded was doing the rounds.

A lot more verbiage may have become understandable.
