Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Listen cobber if Goodwin and the FD don't think the game and and the list( too slow too small too few skilled kickers) is ok and they just need to change "ins " for "outs" and not remedy some of the above defects with players who are ready to go ,then he wasn't watching the top four in the finals.

The "dynasty " is now off the pace  and likely  fighting for their hold on the finals  not just the double chance and with Clubs building behind them

Stubborn narrow mind will get found out in a changing game.

One winter of cloudless skies then .... poof it's a deluge!!

From Prelim in '18 to rock bottom in 19 and then a flag in 21. Goody has enough credit points clearly to remain at the helm

He had to adapt before we won the flag. And he did.

He knows now he'll have to do it again and he will.

Have faith.

Thanks again LH great effort keeping up with Tim Lamb & Co what a superb effort, we started out with LJ and a glad bag of picks and ended up with Grundy, Hunter and Schache, picks 13 & 37 and 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders for 2023. Brilliant effort.❤️💙🤘💕

A lot to unpack there.

Some contract info still to come and those players are in the boxes shaded 'orange'.  I think we will lose Baker as we are getting tight for senior spots.  Based on the current mix we have one spot left unless we go in with more senior players next year.

Updated for the departure of Sam Weideman and the arrival of Grundy, Schache and Hunter.

I've included the Draft picks for 2022/23.  We have a very nice little pot to play with:  13, 37.  Freo F1, F2 and our own F1, F2.

Amazing to get the calibre of players we have for late draft picks and the loss of loyal servants who deserve to chase opportunities elsewhere:  Bedford, Hunt and Weideman.  And of course there is the wantaway ruckman!

On balance we have greatly improved our list.

Interesting they have been coy on the contract length for Hunter and Schache.

Looking at our 2023 OOC list it's easy to see why we've kept Melksham, Hibberd and potentially Baker for another year. Outside of Dunstan most, if not all, of these players we will want to re-sign.

i'd imagine we made Hunters existing 2 years a 3year deal and schache got 2, but thats pure speculation, hunter could also be 4yrs taking him to 31yo

early look at next year puts Hibbo and Melky probably low on priorities, Jordon could be the one who looks elsewhere for opportunities, WCE could target rivers for the hurn position however i think he will stay and dunstan and chandler will be the last to get signed up. McVee and DeakSmith need to show something more deak will be at the end of his 3yr maximum rookie stay as well

So post trade, and with the inclusion of Chandler moving to primary list, signing Melk and Hibbo and using an additional 2 picks in the draft, am I correct in assuming our options are:

- If we DONT delist Baker, we have 1 additional spot available on primary for a DFA + 1 rookie spot.  (noting of we dont use the additional primary spot we can have 2 rookie spots)

- If we delist Baker, we have up to 2 spots to use for DFA if suitable and depending on how many primary spots we fill (if any more at all) we can add between 1 and 3 rookie spots?

Updated for Baker's delisting.

image.png.569f6c8369a4fd780aab501ccd0fdbcc.png

Assuming the existing list mix of the list:  36 senior, 6 A-Rookies we have 2 senior spots and 3 A-Rookie list spots available.  That mix can change as outline in the chart (bottom left corner).

Given we plan to take two picks in the draft any DFA we recruit would come in as an A-Rookie.

The number of games will be updated with the final version after the draft.

Edit:  Updated Oct 15 for Hunter (2 years) and Schache (one) contract length as per 'Footywire'.

Updated for the recruitment of Kyah Farris-White as a B Rookie so we no longer have a B Rookie spot available.  A one year contract has been assumed.

This makes our drafting of Finn Emile-Brennan interesting as we no longer have a B rookie spot.

So do we think he will go around pick 37 or do we not intend to take.  Of course we could swap in a late pick.

Yes it is a long contract for a player of his ilk. At least when, the 12 times a game, he has the ball you know it will be used constructively. As you pointed out he is probably on minimal dollars.
Im more concerned with 4 more years of Salem on what would be considerable more of salary cap pie.

Why does Demonland hate players who can kick

Correct. If he makes it through the National draft unpicked, he can go straight onto the rookie list as a category A player. Or Melbourne could upgrade Moniz-Wakefield and then FEB could fill his cat B position.

It's always been 3 x Cat B Rookies. It went to 2 only for the Covid years. There's been no official word yet, but all the talk is that list sizes and salary cap will be back to normal for 2023.

Is it possible to post their list of player 'contract status'?

I assume the the article is about sal cap space?  If so many of our more highly paid players: May, Lever, Gawn, Viney, Brown, Mc Donald, Tomlinson come out of contract in the next 1 - 3 years and will then be on a lot less (or retired) leaving sufficient room for the up and coming players.  I have little doubt it has all been factored in by the club.  There is no way we will have the Coll sal cap problem.

If the article is talking about breaking into the best 22 then yeah for the next year or two it will be a challenge especially for the small to medium players.

Interesting.

Make or break for his career. I like it.

I not 100% sure but the way I read it is we took over his current contract with the Dogs. Prior to the trade what was his contract status?

Updated for JVR 2 year contract extension until 2025.

Based on the list that @Demonlandpublished above Tomlinson is now shown as OOC in 2024.

I searched for Schache's contract status at the Bulldogs and it seems he was OOC in 2022 so we have given him a one year contract.  josh-schache-contract-western-bulldogs-forward-signs-new-deal

I will update the number of games played when I do the final version for this year after the draft.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
