Farewell Luke Jackson

One of the SA clubs said that GC shouldn't bother recruiting Rankine because he would only come back to SA at the first opportunity, I think they said the same of Lukosius. So eastern states clubs recruit them and SA/WA clubs grab them for a very poor return.

Over the main Covid period it wasn't pleasant for anyone living in Victoria, maybe with the "State of Emergency" nearly over things will change. Maybe we can start to attract a few Victorians playing with WA/SA clubs to come back here.

I hope so Dante. It wouldn't surprise me if that period did turn people off Vic temporarily.

Think it's mostly because he's a key forward from WA who was a huge dockers supporter. There were rumours of him being a flight risk when he was drafted.

oh c'mon. every young footy kid in wa is bound to be a supporter of either the eagles or the dockers. big deal.

Let's hope it is only temporary, you never know, thousands of Victorians left the State as well, not just footballers.

Over the last three years we have been the worst State to live in, particularly our youth.

Rankine said on radio this morning that he has dreamt of playing in a showdown since he was a kid.

He was always going to go back.

Inept second half of the season.

You admitted you decided where to go at the bye.

I'm going to give Jackson the benefit of the doubt and assume that he informed the club before the final series.

The negotiations  to get Grundy in would've surely taken weeks and possibly months, and Jackson's departure would've been the catalyst.

Can't imagine we rung up Grundy last Monday and asked him if he'd like to play for the MFC.

The MFC has just traded in a player who was drafted from SA and played for his Victorian club for ten years. No flight risk there.

True and we have a few who have made a long term committement:  Petty, ANB, Sparrow etc.

I was referring to the players that go after 1-4 years especially top 10/first round draftees of which there have been many in the last 5 years.

Personally I’d love it if we were classy about our exited players. No boos, just let them be former players. He’s going to be around a decade and wasting our energy on anti cheering seems tiresome.
Might be a stretch but I’d enjoy. giving a reverse side of the banner in the first game we play the clubs they went to saying “thanks <player x> for your service to the mfc” and the number of games played or years on the playing roster. No need to be a club with shoulder chips. We can keep our focus on winning.

I'll never boo a premiership player

Will always be grateful to Jacko for helping secure a Premiership and his 3rd qtr in the GF was scintillating.

But... he is dead to me now. I'll show as much loyalty to him as he has to us.

Hard to have ill feelings towards Jacko, helped us break the premiership drought when Max was having a poor game.

I do have ill feelings towards Freo, they can go and bottom out for the next 20 effing years, and never see a bloody premiership. Sick of them putting time into snatching our players but not paying fair price, hope they get their worst injury run ever and finish bottom 4.

We got bent over on this deal.

From his reaction to him drafted to us on draft night it didn't look like he was a flight risk.

Covid bubble in 2020 had a big impact, he’s no longer on our list. He played an important part in our drought breaking premiership and I thank him for that.

I’m an adult not a petulant child and accept this is part of a national game, we move on and worry about who we have and us going forward

Yes he did play an important part in our premiership win and not only in the grand final and for that I am grateful.

Now that he has left I just see him as just another player in the afl system.

Unlike many I will not be booing him as I never boo players from opposition sides nor ours.

While there seems to be little in the media on his Freo contract 'Footywire' which is usually right shows it to be until 2029 ie a seven year contract.

Hope for his sake he delivers on his early promise.

His exit left a bad taste  ie his total drop in form after agreeing mid season to leave and then his stark lack of recognition and gratitude for the dees. So… I no longer hope he does deliver. Personally  I hope we thrash them in a final soon preferably  a GF and he recognises the strength of what he left.

He is now a former player who had great potential and played like he was gone in the later part of the season, coaches of your future club often talk you up and offer a great future like Buckley did with Howe but actual delivery is different.

The fact is that players who have left the club for greener pastures starting with Rivers were chasing the ultimate goal with only Frawley actually achieving it because he went to a club which had a premiership team and only filled a hole which was created by Lake's retirement.

Players who leave for more game time find they are now competing with other hopeful for the same spot so the need to perform since the players around them are either spuds or looking after their own spots.

When you get a group of players like GWS they are good players but the teamwork element is lacking and the coach has to change the mindset of each individual to team first al la 2021 MFC, when the team is under pressure they relapse into the old habits and fall away al la 2022 MFC where they bombarded teams relying on luck not finesse.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
