FMD, there are some real nuffies on this thread.

I've spent tens of thousands of dollars on psychotherapy (part and parcel of following the Dees for close to 50 years maybe). But only now realising I could have saved all that dosh and just come to Demonland and consulted with fellow posters. Could have dealt with my passive aggressive tendencies, obtuseness, drug problem and propensity to resort to innuendo with a few taps of my keyboard.

This debate is typical of Demonland: the 360 Degree gamut of Opinions. It reminds me  of the famous Yiddish observation that you get three - in this instance, we'll call them Yekkes - in a room and in an instant, you get five different opinions...

Dead set there are some disturbed people on here.

All having a genuine cry over a 20 year old kid lol..

Same suspects as usual.

No way would I give them anything back. We could've picked Young ( a great kick) who recently signed a 5 year deal instead of Luke. Pick 13 and a F1?? aren't equal let alone giving a F2 and F3 in a stronger draft next year.

We may not have much choice.

fwiw I think Freo will not make the 8 next year so their F! could well be a top 10 pick.  If we get their F1 I hope we keep it.

Yeah, [censored] tell us this PRIVATE FAMILY MATTER! I, as an anonymous poster, deserve to be told of a STRANGER’S FAMILY MATTER as it causing me momentary distress due to the inability of my football club to get commensurate value in a trade!

What? You mean someone who you've never met, has no meaningful relationship with you aside from wearing some colours that you like, a few days a week whilst chasing an odd shaped ball - you want to know what's happening for him and the distress in his life that informs his decision making? That seems reasonable.... 😇

If we were in Freo's position, why would you offer more than 13 and F1.  They have us over a barrel, we have little negotiation power

Not that it matters, but I don't think their offer is 'fair'

Whether you think Jackson is a potential superstar, or will 'only' be a good player, it's hard to argue he hasn't at least maintained his original draft value of pick 3

Pick 13 + Pick (12-18?) wouldn't net pick 3 in a trade

If the argument is purely about him being out of contract, why don't they just offer pick 50?

In fact we have zero power at the moment we may have to accept much less next wednesday

I agree, in fact, I think his value is a greater than pick 3. but what are you gonna do?

I guess they are offer 13 and to F1 to satisfy us a bit whilst also knowing we don't have much choice

I don't think that is quite right.

We keep trying until Wednesday morning to get more, say that North F2.

If Freo keep refusing, we ring LJ/Manager and say we are trying to help you get to the club you want, but they are not budging.

We ask him/they to apply some pressure, and we are happy to have him back for a season and try again the following year.

We tell him we obviously value him more than Freo do, so now it's up to you guys and them, our hands are tied.

In the end Freo have promised him a fat contract and to get him traded by us and they need to get the job done, or lose him and all credibility in a massive fail.

Plenty of other players and managers would be watching on.

LJ said he won't go into the PSD. We will rely on that.

Therefore it's us or them. We have bargaining power.

No, that's quite right You are a big fakey. I've never believed you were real. There's no way you could get all those trades right if you were.

Hilarious.

Speaking on SEN, Dockers great Paul Hasleby backed up club list boss David Walls’ claim that if a player nominate to return to Victoria, they shouldn’t be able to choose which club.

Me too. Not that we'll let them know that.

13, F1 and F2 (north 19 - 24) for Jackson and F2 (30-36 and F3 (48-54) seems reasonable to me. Gives freo an extra future 2nd so they can trade it for Sharp. They may want to use North's for that however.

Maybe we will trade our future 1st plus Bedford for 12 or 15 from GWS (assuming they still have it) or Bedford plus North's future 2nd for 19. Probably wishful thinking but they have an extraordinary amount of 1st round picks and may wish to invest in next years draft.

Very optimistic - Bedford just ain't worth that much

I agree but many don’t. Clearly MFC think it’s an option otherwise they would have bought in Grundy already.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
