Hopefully he nominates WCE so we can take pick 2 and Jack Darling off their hands and be done with it

Wc will split pick 2 if he nominated them, no way they will they trade out of the first round assuming the afl would even allow it, best bet would be they split this years pick 2 into 5-6 or something to that effect, we would get one of them and next years first probably round pick 7-10 when it’s all done.

I suspect we would let West Coast know that we want pick 2, and the AFL would allow it

If he does leave he going about it the right way in terms of continuing to put in and giving his all. And finding form at the perfect time

For those that reckon the draft picks will compensate for his loss (I’ve been tempted too). I recall one instance on Friday night where he took the ball out of the ruck, ran 10 or so metres before lowering the eyes and hitting brown on the lead. There isn’t another ruckman in the comp that does that never mind a 20 year old ruckman. A freak of nature.

control the controllables as @FlashInThePan pointed out and hopefully that’s enough to overcome his home sickness

He needs a Melbourne girlfriend fast.

Reckon you're right and another pick/player. It will force Freo to give more.

Apparently on SEN before Friday night's game Nathan Jones mentioned that he thinks Jackson may have changed his mind about leaving.

Anyone hear this?

It wasn't that Jones thought Jackson had changed his mind, Jones stated that he had changed his owned mind.

A subtle but major difference.

Even then, it was clear Jones wasn't privy to any new intel.

I think the determining factor for people who go the boo will be whether they feel we are fairly compensated.

Absolute rubbish Its not Dogga's  fault who we recruit.  We may only get draft picks and not trade players as well.

Give Melb fans more credit we are better than that.

Amazed some people are saying that they would accept Meek, Pick 14 and an early 2nd round pick for Dogga. He's 2 first round picks (at least one of which should be in the top 10) at a minimum.

As others have said, if we can come away with Grundy, an early pick to get another young key forward and a developing young ruck and Brodie Grundy, then that's something at least.

Grundy is overpriced and shot

Stay away from him please

I know you are talking about WC, but Freo got pick 2 for Lachie Weller.

If LJ  would accept WC, there is no way they would stuff it up by trading away pick 2 unless we had first agreed.

What a difference a bit of success makes, we can even wish someone who turns their back on us "all the best".  Each to his own.

However IF HE LEAVES FOR FREO I'll not wish him all the best and I'll forever think of him as being disloyal to a club that did everything for him.  We used pick 3 on what many was thought to be a speculative pick.  It was a gamble and a huge investment.  He came to a great well run club with a culture second to none.  He trained with the best - Maxy.  We coached him to a rising star.  We put a premiership medal round his neck.  We've treated him exceptionally well and with dignity.  Our reward?  See ya later boys and by the way, I want to go to Freo where your chances of getting reasonable compensation is much less than if I went to WCE where pick 2 would be part of the deal. But I'm sorry, I'm homesick.

Sorry, that doesn't wash with me and whilst others might accept it "because he's a nice kid" I won't.

Compare that with Scully, the boy who was and stilll is vilified by this site.  He came to a totally dysfunctional club. We had a split in the FD the size of the Grand Canyon.  We had no culture, we had no professionalism and the players had no ambition.  We treated him appallingly.  We had every man and his dog at the club constantly asking him what he was doing and we put him in front of the media on multiple occasions to face questions about his future.  We even asked him to stay for our sick President.  He got a grandfather offer from a new club, an offer no other club would match and he wanted out after what he saw and what we did to him.  And he had specific illnesses in the family that he wanted to provide for. Any manager would have told him to go.  He did and we paid out on a kid we'd done nothing for when he made a sound professional decision.  And guess what, he was right to take it because he wasn't all that good as a footballer and the money he got was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

But we vilified him anyway because he was someone we were falsely told could carry us to success and he disappointed us.  So for me Jackson is disloyal because he leaves a great club for little reason.  Scully left a dysfunctional club for good reason.

And to finish.  If Freo offer peanuts I'd have no hesitation of saying no, Jacko can go into the PSD.  He'll end up at WCE and if that's our position Jacko why don't we deal with WCE because if we don't you may end up at NM.  Jackson's trade is the same as Dangerfield, Kelly, Judd and Cameron.  He's being offered as much by Freo meaning they value him at that level.  You can't have it both ways.  Give us something really meaningful or you just don't get him.  Over to you.

I don’t recall LJ lying to a dying President, or the entire Melbourne membership and fan base and for that matter the entire viewing public. TS said on theTV News and to other media, that he was only in Sydney to have a look around, when the next day videos of him in GWS gear, were for sale, that had obviously been made weeks ago.

Clearly he had committed to GWS a long time before that Sydney lie fest.

I don’t disagree with your characterisation of Melbourne then and now, nor the TS family situation, but TS was not a child and didn’t have to keep lying.

LJ at this point has said nothing and not lied.

TS knew how much we had invested in him and should have just said no comment. That is not hard to do.

I accept that TS was made an offer he couldn’t refuse, it’s the way he left and what he said that I didn’t like.

He blamed everyone on the way out and lied continually. That’s why I feel the way I do.

I still hope LJ stays, but accept he probably won’t, unless a fair deal can’t be achieved.

I will be very disappointed to see him leave, but won’t dislike him or boo him, both of which I did to TS. I have never booed an ex demon before or since. I am happy for him  he got a lot money and also as to how his career played out.

Our pick 2 that year was a great bloke, who I will still mention in footy conversations, unlike the other bloke, who really doesn’t exist in MFC or footy discussions.

It would be a travesty to boo a premiership player.

Each to their own but I think booing players who change teams is dumb but I made an exception for TS. Now I almost feel a bit sorry for him though. He really can’t be strongly associated with any of the teams he played for - Us, GWS or the Hawks. He has little legacy except for perhaps being the ultimate footballer mercenary

Makes sense to me. I havent seen any scenario where Freo get it done.

Cerra wanted to come to the Dees but we had no picks to give them, Carlton did. If Jackson is desperate to go home I predict it will be to the Weagles. and that deal surely has to include pick 2.

I'd be guessing they might try and get Gold Coast involved if they get pick 5 for Rankine, they might give picks 2 and 20 (before all the F/S and academy picks), for picks 5, 7 & 43 from Gold Coast, and then West Coast could give us 5 & their 2023 1st.

I think that would be more valuable than just pick 2 this year. However, these dealings will take a while because Gold Coast are involved and I think they'll be trying to consolidate some of their 2nd and 3rd round picks into 1st round swaps.

I have similar sympathy for Tom Scully as @Slartibartfast.  When was the last time a young player said in season he was leaving?  What did you want him to say when he was filmed in Sydney? I don't think "no comment" would have satisfied. I have my doubts that the dying Jim was ready to hear "your club is f**ked, I'm going to GWS".

The mature 2022 Demons have shielded LJ and have said "let's give him time, he can decide at the end of the season". The broken 2011 Demons left Scully out to dry as the media hounded him for a public answer.

Scully made a sound decision and was put in an unenviable position.

How naive are you?  We have 65,000+ members plus many, many other non-member supporters.  You are kidding yourself if you think all of them are wonderful people that will harbour nothing but goodwill to departed players, especially if we don't get a good trade.

I thought i heard the WCE cant trade their 1st round pic this year cause they have traded out the last 3.

Afl rule says you must use at least 1 1st round pic every 4 years, the Kelly trade has buggered that up for them.

Yeah, it was a very difficult situation for him, mainly because player movement announcments are so taboo in the AFL.  I don't think I want the AFL to go quite as far as the NRL do with announcing player movement so far out, but I do hope we can mature a little in this space.  Just like turfing the centre bounce, I really don't think it will be as impactful to the industry as some supporters think.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
