Peter Bell never learns. I sent him an email about the Fremantle acquisition of Hogan and he replied that they thought they had a really good player. They got next to nothing out of Hogan despite him growing up a Freo fan. Doesnโ€™t the Jackson situation look kind of similar?

Feels like Hogan on steroids. This time they're parting ways will solid players too (Lobb, Logue, Acres) to get him in.ย

I would be surprised if Freo could come up with the draft capital to snare Luke Jackson. Luke was a number 3 pick and given Ruck/forwards usually take years to develop he is playing like a number one pick. He still has 10/12 plus years with natural improvement in a lot of them.

Cant swapย  2 middling 1st rounders for a good player available atย  pick 3. There are mids galore early in the 1st round but we will need a KPF and at least one ruck.

I guess Meek can be steak knives in any deal but what can Freo accumulate.

Their 1st round probably around 13/14 after Father Son pick.ย  What would they get for Lobb and Louege - probably not enough for the trade.

There is a chance of course that we see a couple of really good talls around mid 1st round.

And he replied?! Replied to a supporter from an opposition club poking him on a deal he just did?

I never buy the narrative of 'homesick', FFS we live in 2022 not 1970. You are just a 3 hour flight from home. Not saying it is not a contributing factor but most definitely the money weighs more into the decision.

Exactly โ€ฆ there are plenty of players that play โ€œin another stateโ€. ย Absolutely heaps to be honest. Sure sometimes personal matters mean players want to go home but Iโ€™m not necessarily hearing that with this Jackson situation. ย
Clubs like Freo see him as the โ€œunicornโ€ player that can be swayed with a wheelbarrow of money.ย

Hogan was a Crows fan

If AFL allow it, which they should

Did Jacksonโ€™s head knock stop him from being in the team song?

Yes he was undertaking his concussion test.

He didn't want to look bad in front of his new team and supporters.

If Jackson can get paid handsomely to move back home after already winning a flag with the club that drafted him - why wouldn't he do it? I don't really begrudge Jackson it's just frustrating he's out of contract the one time Freo decide to have a decent season this decade.

AS long as we get adequately compensated, i tend to agree.

While i would much rather he stay, i am not losing any sleep over it

By compensated, I assume you mean โ€œwe negotiate a strong dealโ€. ย No 3 draftee. 3 years in. ย Premiership player. ย Young agile ruck. Unicorn.ย

Thatโ€™s worth a war chest !!

If Lobb joins GWS they may give up a reasonable pick to Freo to secure him, particularly if GWS lose Taranto or Hopper.ย

Wouldn't Lobb going to GWS be like repeating the 4th grade?

I won't be satisfied until this thread hits 200 pages.

Didn't think it was possible when it passed 100 pages, but we are well on the wayย ๐Ÿ™Œ

Based on Lobb's age and his performance against the Dees . Freo will be lucky to get a 3 Rd rounder from GWS . Lodd might make a handy forward for some clubs . I cannot see Freo being able to satisfy our needs with their draft picks . West Coast would have more to offer however Luke may not want to join them . I have a gut feeling that he will stay at Melbourne for the next two years .

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
