Welcome to Demonland.

Ā

I bet my bottom dollar that whoever controls the social media passwords at Melbourne is a closet Demonlander who posts photos and then comes on here to read the mass hysteria with a bucket of popcorn.Ā

Haha yesterday I got a YouTube notification for the clip of Angus on a mobile phone to a 100 yr old member.....IĀ  was hoping he was announcing that he had re-signed?!Ā  Total troll move by the social media team

Would stake everything I own on Melbourne not accepting anything anywhere near that deal. This is way off the mark.

Cerra going for pick 6 is a closer precedent to anchor any negotiation to but even then Melbourne would be arguing the value of a higher # draft pick who also happens to be a KPP would mean any offer needs to be north of that that.

likely scenario is he will not ā€˜nominate’ Freo until his manager is comfortable the two clubs can do a deal. The assumption that he’ll ā€˜nominate Freo’ and Melbourne just need to suck it up is far more unlikely than likely (even if he wants to go there).Ā

Story going around ( nothing reliable) that if Demons can't get a reasonable deal he'll sign for 2 more yearsĀ

I have a feeling that is stretching an article by the somewhat unreliable WA scribe Paul Halesby.Ā

I popped over to the Freo bf forum to see what they were saying PH article says something like:Ā  Freo has a commitment from Jackson and his management that he will go there if they have the draft capital to get a deal done.Ā  The article is behind a paywall so I can't quote from it directly.

As I said, I don't think PH is reliable.Ā  He strikes me as WA's John Ralph and plays lots of guessing and speculation games.

He’d fit right in here then would he Luci.

It was, as far as I could tell, someone who seemed to have contacts in the Freemantle area, but like I said just a rumour. Having said that I don't think he'd be happy to see Melbourne screwed over.

Paul Hasleby would absolutely still have contacts at Fremantle.

Haselby played much better footy than Jon Ralph.

He does have decent info from Freo

Seems like a very strange proposition to commit to a club based on their trade capital and then committing to the current club if they can't get a deal done. Would have thought you'd be deciding to leave or not.

Thanks for clarification.

With that cred Hasleby's paraphrased comment is worth repeating:Ā  Freo has a commitment from Jackson and his management that he will go there if they have the draft capital to get a deal done.

That suggests that Jackson is doing the right thing by the club in a trade and should allay the DL fears that Jackson "won't look after us"/Freo will dud us in a trade.Ā

And it suggests that if Freo can't do the deal Jackson will either go to WCE or stays.

People need to relax. Seriously.Ā

Whatever we get back for Jackson will be overs. We'll name what we want and either Freo get it done or he goes to West Coast.Ā

Given the flexibility clubs now have with being able to trade draft picks etc, I don't understand why posters think Freo couldn't facilitate a trade. If they want him, they'll make it happen.Ā

If we were to land Lobb and a draft pick like 7, I'd do it in a heart beat.Ā

Then from there, if we had our eyes on a player in the top 5, we'd have the ability to trade up.Ā

The possibilities are many. Everyone relax. Jackson is a super player but the composition of our list and spread of talent over a number of years is more important than holding onto a player like Jackson at all costs.Ā

I think people should relax because he ain’t left yet…

We can hand wring about that package being disappointing when appropriate, @JimmyGadson

Scott Thompson comes to mind? Was prepared to stay if Melbourne weren't satisfied with what Adelaide could provide in return. I think Melbourne still bended over. Not unreasonable or uncommon for people to want to leave work places they enjoy/love (I did recently) for another that is more suitable to your needs. It is your career after all and you have to weigh up everything. It stands to benefit Melbourne that he's actually *happy* here as he wouldn't want us to be absolutely shafted. He's also holding Freo to account if it's true. No one should lose out here.Ā

Pretty sure that wasn't the case with Thompson?

If I remember at the time, Thompson went back home due personal family issues. I swear also there were reports he had a minor falling out with Neale Daniher towards the end as well.

I wonder if the AFL will force WCE to keep their first pick rather than trade it, due to not using enough 1st rounders. If, and a big if, Dogga requested a trade to Freo and they played hard ball, WCE currently with pick 2 would be the natural plan B. I reckon HQ would want WCE to use pick 2Ā andĀ get Dogga

IF Dogga leaves, I have no doubt the club will acquire decent compensation for him.

Ā

And I hope change his moniker to Dog

Since Jackson was drafted, Fremante have had 6x first round picks in the AFL Draft. The idea that they don't have the ability to compensate us is BS, they are brimming with young talent. It's just a matter of prying some good players out of Peter Bell's grubby little hands

Can't quite remember the details around Thompson other than wanting to go home. I do take your point about leaving workplaces amicably and it is a noble way of going about it, I do wonder though about the effect it would have on the group and the morale though and if he signed on for two years would that mean we potentially have another circus next year in trade period with 1 year to go, then the next year again etc.

I once heard Brian Cook talk about his philosophy at Geelong and it was much more along the lines of if a player didn't want to be there or wasn't 100% all in on playing for their club, then they had to go.Ā

But there's different ways of going about business these days I guess, no hard and fast rules. Appreciate your point of viewĀ  Praha and hope the new job is going wellĀ šŸ™‚

That was my recollection too.Ā  I remember being pretty upset as he was about to explode as a player.

I think the club used the pick we received and trade to Geelong to get Moloney as a ready made replacement?Ā  (While Geelong used the pick with another to get Brad Ottens and win a premiership!)
