Embarrassing looking back. Toumpas and Morton were the shockers.

And we should never have recruited Diamond Jim Tilbrook in 1971.

MFCSS keeps manifesting itself. Time to move on.

The bad old days. Thankfully we got our act together and now have the best in the business making the selections. In JT we trust

what was the criteria for that list, as it's missing a heap of players who moved during that time period particularly all the suns and giants boys

Didn't we use the pick we got for Morton (89?) to land Jordan Lewis? Not a bad deal in the end

Not to mention Watts turned into Fritsch

Everything works out in the end 😜

I take real offense regarding Trengove. He was a great player who was destroyed by poor handling of his injury and being made captain of a rubbish club with horrible culture at age 21

Trengove picked by Melbourne in 2021 goes on to become a 200 game champion.

Time to press the RESET button.
If any of these worked out we would not have all our current star collection especially Petracca Oliver Fritz Jackson Bowey Pickett etc.

Aaah the Toump!

Perhaps we should re-draft him based on his performance in the SA Grand Final?

https://sanfl.com.au/league/news/eagles-win-2021-statewide-super-league-premiership/

26 touches....wow.  Not to mention a couple of Menzels and another draft prospect in Riley Knight playing.

and that Stengle bloke looks good too.....in such esteemed company and high level football surely someone will draft him this year?

During the Brownlow an old friend messaged to say "Wines wins a Brownlow, you guys got Toumpas"

I'm not kidding when I say this was the first time I thought about this that night, it literally hadn't crossed my mind. I told him I'm sure Port and Wines would prefer to be playing in a GF that week.

To be fair not 1 person said Morton was the wrong pick after his first 3 years, after he done his knee he was never the same. I think Neeld had a lot to do with Morton not developing beyond the up and coming. As with Jimmy he put too much pressure on himself, after constant comparison between him and wines in the media, and Viney was in that draft the club considered them being of equal rating, and the same type of player as wines. Yes wines won a Brownlow but Viney showed that he is a better finals player, and is now a premiership player, wines will never be a premiership player.

Toumpas a big miss. Could have gone Wines i think.

Hundreds of stories like that I know, but the fact that Ollie and Jack are best mates & Todd Viney was in the footy department makes it worse

The world works in mysterious ways. If we took Wines we may not have ended up with Petracca or Oliver. If we kept Stefan Martin, Gawn may now be playing for some other club. If we kept Watts then no Fritsch. Reality is we were never serious contenders till now. I’m now happy with the champs we got now.

I say we flush out any residual traces of MFCSS by reorienting the topic of this thread.

Who here is a fan of the Stone Roses? I particularly get a strut in my step when this bobs up in my I-Tunes rotation!

We definitely had some massive stuff ups with drafting in the past.

I blame the following...

1) Poor Culture

2) Poor Development

3) Poor Recruiting

Luckily we were able to fix the rot with Peter Jackson, Paul Roos and many others.

Anyway, it doesn't matter now.

Time to move on!

We are 2021 Premiers!

I was informed by an insider that Todd wanted Wines but was overruled by Neeld.

But of course, if we take Wines we probably don't finish exactly where we did that year, we improve more quickly and probably don't get in a position to take Petracca, Brayshaw and Oliver...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
