Hope we don't get a typhoon or some other natural disaster.

I'm pretty keen to see the premiership flag raised at the G but at this rate you can't take things for granted.

You can never watch the second half of the third quarter and the whole of the last quarter enough.

Get in some practice for a long summer.

Yesterday got stuck in the rain and sheltered for 20 mins. Don’t miss a few more peeks at Prelim 3rd either

Coodabeens 10.00 Saturday ABC 774 or podcast should have a fair bit of Demons this morning

Strangely, I was actually looking forward to the footy finishing in a way, to get a few more hours of productive time back into my weekend (I have so much to do and so little time right at the moment), however I can see that's not going to happen.  I'll be joining the rest of you basking in the retrospective goodness of that last month and a bit of footy from the Rd 23 classic comeback to top them all, through to the GF on rotation.  I think I'm wearing out the server that holds that last half Demons of premiership bliss.

Knowing them they will probably try and broadcast it in black and white.

Once it gets underway in earnest, I'll be on our women's team. They must be pretty close to winning the big one as well this year and how good would it be to complete the double.

On this note, something which irked me a little listening to the GF commentary was at the point it was obvious that we'd win, when one of her fellow comentators poised the statement/question to Daisy as to how good it was "watching her club do this?".  Daisy's response was along the lines that it wasn't her club, but that it was Garry Lion's and others (she named them, but I forget) club.  I'm not having a go at Daisy here, because, I realise she was just being modest in her response, but I see it as being very much her club, as a person and player that has fully embraced the MFC as it has embraced her and as a person who holds a prominent place in our clubs (and indeed the AFL's) history as all of a champion player and the first captain of our women's team and pioneering advocate for the entire women's national competition.

Will be great once the AFLW starts up again and hopefully crowds are allowed back, as I think our girls will draw crowds the envy of the competition, hopefully play some great footy and be right up there in competition at the pointy end of the season as well.

Very generous to MFC, adding “wait until they put four quarters together”

Getting my COVID shot on Saturday, so that might blow my whole weekend depending on my reaction. If so, I'll be laying in bed watching the replay ad nauseam with every commentary under the sun, one by one.

The endorphins released by watching the GF should counter any side effects of the clot shot.

Watch the replay with alternative commentary

I suggest listening to Perth's Triple M, being Dennis Cometti's last ever Grand Final

If anyone does, have a good listen to how the commentary team is questioning whether Melbourne will be able to stop the Bulldogs momentum about half way through the 3rd quarter, its very funny knowing what is about to occur

Normally at this time I add up the number of weeks till the next season to work out how to spread out watching the recordings I made of wins during the year.

Usually I have to ration myself to watching one every few weeks, but this summer I don't know if I can fit them all in at one per week.

I think I've still got some of my favorite's from around 2016 - 2018 on an old Foxtel IQ that I'd play in this way.  Now that we've nailed the big one, I can enjoy watching those games again as part of the journey that got us there.  The 2018 elimination and semi finals against the Cats and Hawks would still be enjoyable to watch, particularly the joy clearly evident from Nathan Jones of playing in and winning finals and although by comparison to 2021 PF, it probably doesn't feel like we beat them by enough, the elimination of the Cats was a pretty good highlight.  Probably also good to reinforce what the Weid could still offer us going forward!!

Still p.ssed. should sober up in a fortnight's time then on to AA.

Where are you getting the replays from DJ? I had a look on Kayo and the AFL website the other week, primarily looking for the Anzac Eve game but couldn't find anything before the North game in Hobart online.

Kayo

It's clunky but they are all there

Select the AFL preference and then the MFC subset.

Strangely enough you need to scroll to the right to get the earlier games.

Up to the Saints game round 2.

Boy we were scratchy in that Freo game... enjoy

Are you only watching the wins?

No... I will watch the losses for the learnings. 😎

Watching the Freo game you certainly wouldn't pick us as premiers.

Do the various radio stations have podcasts of their GF coverage.

Would make for nice listening while doing the masked walking thing.

Thanks

Geez. I must have missed that when I scrolled the MFC subset. It went as far back as round 7 then started with our finals games again. I'll give it a go again later tonight DJ. Thanks!

Richmond game on now.

I’m still occasionally watching highlights clips , after match interviews and looking through merchandise updates. Love watching the Bang Bang Bang Bang highlights.   Also have to watch the On The Couch GF wrap up with the great Gaddddy Lyon.

Already done the triple header on youtube

I've been going back through the topics and threads on Demonland and still finding great stuff I haven't seen yet. Wonderful reading.

Last night I watched the Grand Final with SEN commentary with Huddo, Whateley, with *some special comments from Lewis, Healy.
It had its pros and cons.

Huddo and Whateley were exceptional, so too Lewis.
You couldn’t hear the umps which was ok. Best of all, was you didn’t have to listen to BT and Brayshaw. I’ll leave it at that. However, I missed Daisy but certainly not Carey.

*The one negative was Healy for mine. Critical of a Bulldog player for not crunching Oliver in the back with a knee when there was an opportunity early. Saying that it was ok to do it in a Grand Final. What a spud for special comments.

Overall a much better alternative of commentary than Seven.

Me too, my first watch of the replay was with the SEN commentary.

And agree, Healy was the overwhelming negative. Just adds nothing at all, says some really stupid stuff, out of touch with the modern game. He's the weak link on On The Couch, too.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
