Well that’s impressive IMO.

Glen Bartlett did plenty of good work for the club but it was time for a change. Kate has been impressive whenever I’ve heard her speak and she certainly has the CV for the job

But I’m going to reserve judgment on her performance until our new home base is secured. That is ultimately why she is on the board and will ultimately be the KPI she is measured on.

Now that the premiership is in the bag let’s get that home base sorted Kate. Over to you

Exactly, she has been the pres for a minute and when bartlett left we had already strung a number of wins together and been impressive over preseason ... talk about overstating someone's influence ... as she has said she has worked on the same home base that has taken for ever to get going and apparently been one of the main people working on it ... Glen and Gary deserve the administrative praise in my view for reviewing and ultimately building a premiership program with the right structure and assistants

This thread is about how Roffey supported Goodwin, gave him belief and helped drive the values the club has espoused this year.

Last year I recall Bartlett scorching Goodwin and the players publicly and by all accounts completely blindsided them.  Deserved?  Possibly.  But that behaviour was the antithesis of building teamwork, support and to engender belief in people.

Last year Bartlett put a real dent in our culture.  Roffey, as outlined in the Offsiders, has repaired it.  

Do you know what our win / loss ratio is since Bartlett wrote that?

One of the many things that went right this year that previously would have gone to custard and disrupted the season. The board quietly rearranged itself in the background, including a leadership shift. I’m grateful to them all, including Bartlett.

It sounds like Roffey was just the leader Goodwin needed this year.

It's take more than one individual, but a club needs a clear direction from for everyone to go Ina nd the CEO/president have a major role in that.

Interesting point about 5/6 having female presidents, though the Richmond wins screw that data alot! 

But Aussie rules in pretty unique in world football codes, with half of our spectators/supporters being women.  Does not have in other footy codes around the world (they send administrators to try and work out our secret). Meaning there is less gatekeepers when it comes to women in footy rules, including at grassroots clubs where there are lots. of women running them.

 

I doubt Glenn loved his exit, but it’s great that both he and Kate understood the momentous occasion on Saturday night, and could both be there for it. They both have played an important role, and deserved that moment.

Perhaps. But not in public. Which the club and other members of the Board understood ... was the beginning of the end for Glenn.

Sometimes a show of faith in the coach combined with a woman's touch can work wonders!

This may be seen as trivial but it would be nice when Kate or anyone else speaking in any kind of official capacity remembers that this club has long standing, rusted on, paid up members all over Australia not just in Victoria or WA. This should also be considered when the club is planning any future events.

This condescending agenda you have only reflects poorly on yourself and Bartlett. 

I have heard that Bartlett was putting undue private pressure on the coach over the summer in addition to the outburst of public pressure last year.

He needed to go.

Roffee needed to ensure that they was a culture of respect and care to get the most out of the club that had been smashed (as every club had) the past 2 years.

We all acknowledge Bartlett’s role from where we were - now you and the other acolytes need to live up to the aura created around his tenure and get in line behind the new leader.

Otherwise you risk defining his administration by the manner of the exit as opposed to the effort over the journey.

Don’t create a schism - I know where the majority will sit.

It just goes to show that on occasion, a more encouraging touch is better than a sledge hammer blow to the head. And above all else, a genuine sense of care is paramount.

I can remember how gung ho we all were about Neeld and him hitting the club with a big stick. I need not remind everyone how that worked out. 

That's not to say that it doesn't work on occasion. ND in his first year was ferocious in some of the bakes he gave, but ultimately the players knew he wanted what was best for them. Clarko and Craig Bellamy are apparently incredibly heavy handed when they need to be, but none of their players would say they didn't care about them.

Who knows what was in Glen's heart when he started spraying the team publicly and hammering Goody privately? Maybe too much time reading the 'Is Goodwin the right guy?' thread perhaps? Whatever it was, people viewed him as having lost that ideal of genuine concern and veering into the field of cathartic ranting. If that's what happened, he needed to be replaced.

And as for those pushing this 'I'm not for tokenism but...' stuff, why even include that? You are working from the premise already that women are inferior. It's almost like 'I'm not racist but...' It's contrarianism masquerading as something more insidious. I for one am over the moon that we are becoming a more diverse, more egalitarian, more progressive club after years of being perceived as the stuffiest, most exclusionary and fogeyist club in the league, and forthrightly reject any attempts to make it the way it was previously.

2020: 6 wins, 3 losses.

2021: 20 wins, 4 losses, 1 draw.

Since Bartlett gave the boys a tonge lashing after a terrible performance againt Port the Dees have played 34 games.  Their record 27 wins, 6 loses and 1 draw.  Clearly Bartlett intervention did the trick.

I did contemplate adding an 'ed' to return but I'm not sure it's necessary

Surely a true Demon supporter will recognize the effort that has gone into bringing the cup home and would not attempt to deter from those efforts. It truly was a FULL team effort. Go Dees.

End of the day i don't think it matters whether he resigned or was pushed. We have a flag and that's the main thing

Yes, but he started the rise to our premiership and his legacy deserves to stay intact hence why he has spoken out I suspect. Some of Kate's comments recently suggesting she has made a difference by showing Goody new found support are selfish if I am being honest. Never heard Glenn praise himself always talked about the board achievements. Hopefully Kate stops talking about herself  

Watch this post game news conference from 9:40 on for about the next 2 minutes or so. Listen to Goodwin and listen to Petracca.

Then answer me this question: Is Goodwin a coach who doesn't work hard enough and needs to be kicked in to gear? Or is Goodwin a coach who needs the right people around him to support and help him.

I think the answer is pretty clear.

Full credit to Glen Bartlett for steading the ship on and off the field. His time at the club can't be underrated. From Roos to Goodwin, Burgo, Jason Taylor, Alan Richardson, Choco Williams. The Casey upgrades. So much amazing work.

Overall I think it's fair to say his time as President has had a longer and greater impact on this Premiership than Kate Roffey. But I also think it was time for someone else to step in to provide that support to finish the job.
