Toby Greene umpire contact

I've written before on Demonland one of Toby's mates got in a fight at a nightclub and Toby was on crutches, hobbled his way into it and started smashing the other bloke with his crutches.

He couldn't even walk but he wasn't going to miss out on a fight.

He's a grub of a human. If he didn't get to be a professional footballer he would be in and out of jail on assault chargesย

Natural reaction, Binman (humorous, I suspect ๐Ÿ˜‰) Would in seriousness have been mine, too, before 9/25.

Nowย I hope weย don't!๐Ÿ˜

Articles in the media about Greene's reputation being tainted by suspensions.ย  what a joke, he is a gun footballer.

Matthews and Dermie are in the media and regarded as legends despite being thugs on the field

Got off lightly againย  if you ask me.

There should be a rider that if he is reported again it's for the seasonย

Should have got 10 weeks! Needs anger management counselling, what a fool, and an arrogant one at that!

I don't understand where you are coming from. The 'What about' argument is sophistry and totally irrelevant. It's like saying that a repeat murderer or child molester should not have their reputation tarnished because they could cook a great lasagna.

It was 6 - 10 weeks every day of the week. Reckon he got off as lightly as he was ever going to.ย

my argument is that players that have been suspended many times for doing much worse then Greene have not had their reputation tarnished, in fact sometimes they are admired for it.ย  admittedly in the old days rough stuff was more common

I reckon Stevic deserves a reprimandย  forย  his virtual "sticking up' for Greene in his post-incident interviews.

By not "lagging" on players, the umpiresย  know they'll be highly rated byย  them,ย  increasing theirย  chances of Finals selectionย  etc.

But Stevic let down his umpiring colleagues at all levels by not renouncing Greene's behaviour .

He shouldn't have been selected for Finals thisย  year.

Victim blaming. We don't like it in the court system and we shouldn't accept it in this instance either.

How does this work, JJC?ย  The players don't choose which umpires are given the Finals gig.

The players make it well known who they think are the best umps.

I have heard it said that the players all think Stevic and Rosebury are the best umpires.

I'm sure this influences the AFL Umpire selectorsย  in their choice for the Finals. It probably should.

Stevic seems like one of the best to me, but I feel strongly he let down all umpires by not being more critical of Toby's act.

There's no doubt junior footballers copy what they see on TV of footy at the highest level.

Stevic's done nothing to make umpires in lower grades safe.

Victim blaming! He's the umpire. It's his job to make calls including putting players on report and giving evidence against them if required.ย

Back?

That implies it went away

I think there's been a misunderstanding. I agree it's Stevic's job to give evidence. What I was trying to say was that stating that Stevic's evidence was a bit weak is similar to blaming victim's of crimes for not speaking up about crimes perpetrated against them.

I sense we're all in agreement here - that Stevic's evidence was not as "tough" as one might have expected.

The umpire was innocent. Leave him alone.

Greene got the minimum he deserved.

ย I like Toby. Really.ย

However, the footy context is clear. He has form and has had more warnings than most. And his penalties have been no better than a gentle slap on the hand.ย

So footy wise, I donโ€™t have much sympathy. Many of his antics on the field have been reckless and dangerous. There is a real concern that left unchecked there may be a more serious incident both impacting Toby and the other person.ย

He does not require sympathy or listen to those within his bubble, but strong and sage advice from someone with his interests at heart but who will give it to him straight and unblemished.ย

Irresepective of what happens today, I can't believe there is still discussion about whether Toby Greene should be captain of GWS. One of the major themes of this year's Premiership has been selflessness. There is nothing more selfish than putting yourself regularly in the position of being suspended. I would be horrified if my team chose an habitual offender to be captain.ย

GWS have a terrible culture. Selfish players playing for money they mostly donโ€™t deserve. There is no team there is only individuals. Couple that with a horribly uninspiring coach and no history or supporter passion and you get a club full to the brim with talent that goes nowhere.ย
Clubs would kill for their list.ย

ย

Was talking footyt with a few blokes yesterday, one said that he read during the week that if Greene gets two more weeks suspension at any time during his career heโ€™s gone for good. The rest of us questioned it.
ย

Is 22 weeks total suspension then deregistration still a thing?

Does this just apply to all leagues out side of the AFL?

Or have we just missed the mark completely?
