Seriously for 10,000 people we are robbing Melbourne of the clear advantage of playing at the MCG?! What a joke.

AFL got sold a lemon with this one. Got sucked right in.

And to think Adelaide are pushing their case for a GF gig when they won't even put it up to 50% capacity for its first final.

100% agree with this. 15k all spaced out across the stadium is going to deliver very little atmosphere. This isn’t much better than playing at the G in an empty stadium.

I attended the women’s match when they made the prelim last year at Adelaide oval, from memory there was about 20,000 that day.  The ironic thing was that they didn’t spread the crowd all over the ground.  Everyone of us were on the lower deck wing on one side of the ground.  I was crammed in shoulder to shoulder next to everyone else.  They put a tokenistic spare row every 5 or so rows, but that was the extent of the social distancing.

Im sure more value was put on it looking good on tv, and reducing security costs than the health and well being of the patrons.

However, I have to disagree with you, I think there will be an atmosphere and the players have consistently said they prefer some crowd to no crowd.  I’m at least partially hopeful that we might outnumber the opposition supporters and give the boys a lift if they need it.

There's no way the AFL didn't know.

They've known what's going on with crowds and restrictions often before the public is informed.

I hope Gerard Whateley is happy.

We can now finalise the top 8's record vs the top 8:

  1. Melbourne: 8-2
  2. Sydney: 6-3
  3. GWS: 5-5
  4. Port Adelaide: 4-4
  5. Brisbane: 4-4 (note that they played 7 of these 8 games by Round 12, before their bye)
  6. Geelong: 4-5
  7. Bulldogs: 4-5
  8. Essendon: 1-8

My question is to the AFL & understand cover/quarantine etc but why does Port get to play in front of a home crowd/home ground and the Demons minor premiers have to travel, Were is the advantage finishing 1st???

Was there an option of having a bye to move all the finals to Perth and fit in with their quarantine, they also have Subiaco oval???

7 other teams are plying on Neutral Grounds, how is this fair???

Not only have we won this stat by a mile, we also played the most amount of games against the top 8 sides along with GWS.

Gotta wonder how that happened considering we didn't even make the 8 last year!

My main concern about this game is Brisbanes dangerous small forwards in Cameron, McCarthy and Bailey.

Rivers, Bowey and Smith are a lot of youth and inexperience that could be exposed here. Do we bring in Hibberd to play a hard lockdown role?

I would 100% agree with you. I rate Bailey very highly and Cameron on his day is a match winner. Smith for Hibberd would be my choice. But having said that Smith is a better match up on Cameron due to his athletic ability

It's not really fair but neither is interstate teams having to beat Melbourne ones at the MCG on grabs final day . I'm not too fussed with it

Reckon Melbourne will ask for videos from supporters wishing them luck??

I feel like there’s no real way to show them support with us vic fans not being there and cheering them,

although they know we are watching and yes SA fans will be there. Hopefully I few videos from fans before the game can rev them up some more with knowing how many of us are behind them

I’m gutted I cant go and see my beloved Demons in the finals and so are my kids , but as I said to them, this team is good enough to have prolonged success and hopefully we will see many more finals back at the G in the coming years.

As one of our recruiters told me in a private conversation a couple of years ago. “ This groups got 2 , maybe 3 flags in them”.

Tha gave me a lot of hope.

The Crows didnt complain when they finished higher and played Richmond at the G in a GF.

Given the current circumstances I dont see what the problem is.

It was a bit confusing on the first read but basically Brisbane is the only team not to have played another Final 8 team in the last 8 rounds of this year.

We were given repeat games against Geelong (2020 runner up), Bulldogs (2020 finalist but finished in the middle six), GWS (10th in 2020), Hawthorn (bottom 4 in 2020) and Adelaide (bottom 4 in 2020).

It wasn't that bad - GWS ended up moving up into the top 8.

What's interesting is that Port and Brisbane both made prelims last year but only had one repeat game against a 2021 finalist. Port got two repeat games against 2020 top 6 sides but not only were they the two worst top 6 sides from 2020 in Collingwood and St Kilda (losers of the two semi finals), but both of them fell apart in 2021 and missed finals. They otherwise got the Bulldogs (a 2020 finalist but finished middle six), and Carlton and Adelaide.

Brisbane got both Richmond and Geelong (i.e. the two Grand Finalists) plus Collingwood, Gold Coast and Fremantle. Again, whilst that looked reasonably tough pre-season, Richmond and Collingwood fell apart and GC and Fremantle were always going to be mid to poor sides.

I'm not convinced we play better at the MCG than Adelaide Oval.  If I had my pick for us to win I'd play at Docklands.

Anywhere, Anytime, Anybody

and Subiaco has no stands anymore just the oval and the heritage gates remain

Nothing to see here.

By the way, who is the broadcaster again and do they have any club presidents in their employ? Asking for a friend.

Whereas since Rnd 15 we have played 5 top 8 sides (Bombers, GWS, Port, Dogs and Cats). Six if you include the Eagles in Perth who were in the 8 at the time. It has to be better to have that run than a whole lot of easy games, doesn’t it?

They won't get 10,000 irrespective of crowd capacity.

Who's going to be that fussed on attending a game with two out of town teams? Who has the discretionary cash to pay 50-$100 to watch a game that your club isn't involved in.

With that being said, I think we're as good a chance winning a game at AO than MCG.  Our form at the G after the Carlton game was pretty uninspiring.

Success I'm there Sat night.

How did you do it? I'm currently battling Ticketek, but without much success. (I live in Adelaide, lucky me!) It doesn't seem to want to let me book tickets, even though I'm putting in the right barcode numbers. Are we supposed to select General Admission, which seems to be restricted to just a couple of small bays? Or do we select the other option, Home/Club 1 members? I would have thought that since this is not a Crows/Port match, the usual "keep the other bastards out" rules wouldn't apply. Anyone been through the exercise successfully?
