CHANGES: QF vs Brisbane

Demonland

Recommended Posts

Smith allowed Lever to play the way he did in the second half. Not sure he is definitely best 22 but judging his game on possessions and rebounds is not seeing the whole picture.

We would get similar results out of any two of Smith, Hunt, Bowey and Pig.

My main concern with Smith is that I don't think he quite has the "football smarts" at times, so worried that he gets turned inside out by a Charlie Cameron.

I think I'd put Petty on Daniher due to the height, so I'm wondering if Smith play on McStay? He gives away a few cm (191 v 195 as listed), but it would allow May on Cameron (I think he has played this type of role before) and Lever to take say McCarthy and do some zoning?

Those saying drop sparrow for Jordan, I suggest watch again. Sparrow a good game and deserves his spot.

Sparrow was great, surprisingly strong, and I thought he did enough to hold his spot. 12 disposals (7 contested and 331 m gained), 6 marks (3 contested), 5 tackles, despite only 62% TOG, was a great return.

I was in favour of Jordon playing, but if the plan was to bring Jordon back after a week off, I think Sparrow has made it difficult for Goody and co to stick to their guns.

We've now seen Smith for two weeks and I don't think he has a position in this side to call his own. Petty had the advantage of being able to settle in over a few weeks and now looks rock solid. Unfortunately for him, Smith doesn't get that opportunity because of the time of year. If Hunt is available, I think he comes in for Smith. However, if Hunt's not ready and it becomes a choice of Hibberd of anyone else for Smith, I'd choose Hibberd but I could see why Smith might be retained.

Other than that, while a swap of Jordon for Sparrow seems tempting, there's not a lot in it either way. I'd probably keep Sparrow because I thought his game last night was quite good.

So, for me the only change is Hunt if ready, or Hibberd if he's not, for Smith.

Isn't Hunt out for the rest of the season?

Just wondering if Goody might play Viney mostly at HF with smaller time through the Middle this week in order to play a defensive forward role to curtail Rich?

Rich had over 800 meters gained against the Eagles.

Could also share this role with Sparrow?

Persist with tmac for another week, he won’t be the difference between winning and loosing anyway. Jordan in for Smith. Rivers is better back as that mid size than Smith anyway and Jordan brings more round the ground.

Think there are three possible tags. Zorko, McCluggage and Rich.

Viney might go with Zorko. Sparrow with McCluggage and Spargo to keep Rich under wraps although not a hard tag.

Smith out

JJ or Hibbo in

Give rivers the role on Cameron.  Need to make sure he doesn't get leading lanes.  Group defence!

Hunt straight back in if ready.

Open to Hibberd returning for the Cameron matchup but I'm not convinced that it would actually be a plus for us.

Gut feel, no change unless necessary

I rather like the Rich-Hibberd match-up. Clearly we need someone to tag Rich and Hibbo has done done it very effectively before….

I like this idea. Petty-Daniher, Smith-McStay, May-Cameron

TMac gets another go around.

Sparrow or JJ won't make a big difference either way.

The only time Bowey comes out is after he is chaired off in his 300th.

TMac won't be the difference between us winning and losing. We need Tom to get some games under his belt - if we drop him this week, and we win; then that's a big block of time he hasn't played games and we'd then be looking to bring him back into a prelim underdone. I think he must play.

Not only Lever, Salem has had big impact the last couple of weeks, Bowey is getting the ball.  To me Smith is in the side as a pure shut down defender, pretty sure he had Rohan on the weekend, can't remember seeing Rohan much on Saturday night except when he stood back and watch Max take the mark.

I can't see any chances except if TMac is injured or sore, he didn't move well.  The run would help his touch but just looked limitied in his movement.  We need someone to tag Rich, I'm assuming Harmes will get first crack

They showed a clip on Fox last night of how we were pushing Salem up to the stoppages in the first half to increase the chances of winning clearance. In the second half, Salem was sitting behind the play as a loose player.

Kossie tagged Rich in the regular season.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
