No chance he enters the 22 imo.

However given he has chosen to stay, I would suspect the club have told him the med sub is on the cards.

The club did him a massive favour getting him to 300.

That's enough.

Win at all costs. That means a young fit player as med sub. That means #23 as #23.

Agree 100%. Jordan has been there all year getting it done. As good as it is for culture giving jones the nod, its just as bad for culture dropping a young player who deserves his spot.

I've said before we must use this sensitively as a motivation.

Communicate transparently with Jones and the squad.

Ask them all do you want Jones in the playing team?

if yes let them know that he is replacing someone and they must play their backsides off to win the game for Jones and whoever is out.

if no let them know they better play their backsides off to win because they will owe it to Jones.

Jones can also be part of the decision and if he chooses not to take the field it is because he knows they will play their backsides off and win for him.

Can be done in any order . The coaches will know how to handle it.

They may even not do that at all but whatever they do they better win.

Discussed on Footy Classified. If Jones doesn’t make the prelim team and we win, he will be told quickly if he’s in or not for the grand final so he can fly back to be with his wife for the birth of their twins.

Fingers crossed for Nath. Medical sub seems perfect for him. He’s in good form in the VFL and will give his all for the red and blue.

Medi-sub should 100% be the best available player only. Either game could go to the wire. No sentimentality.  I'm sure Nate would agree.

If he's not the sub, stays in WA and we win the GF, then IMHO he'd be the most deserving, suitable person to do the Cup Handover!!

I know it's usually someone more from yesteryear, but we can choose whoever we want and I think Jones is the one who most needs to be honored holding that cup whether he plays or not.

Whether he play or not is still undecided but the issue has become a distraction to the job at hand if we get to the GF. Will we play the best 23 or the best 22 + Jones? Personally I believe he should have retired 2 to 3 seasons ago. Sentimentality does not win premierships.

Nathan has already had his fairytale ending, by getting to 300 games with dignity, instead of retiring as the guy who embarrassed himself against the Swans in his last game of 2020.

Big no from me. There are at least 3 or 4 players I'd rather have a medi-sub. If anything McStay going down for Brisbane and having no forward to come in and retain their structure shows the importance of picking players on merit rather than romance. Would love to see Jonesy holding the cup, but I'd also love to see any Melbourne player holding the cup.

“Last week I talked about Jamarra with the scope to be able to play 100 minutes of a big final and it’s imperative anyone that is picked can do that,” Beveridge said on Thursday on why Jamarra is unlikely play in finals this season.

Though Jones is a different case, the ability to play 100 minutes in a big final is applicable. Jones has only played limited time this season in every game he’s played and has demonstrated he can’t last out in final quarters where he has spent bulk of the time on the bench since the start of 2020 season. If he started as sub and needs to get on early he will be a massive liability aside from lack of leg speed and age related decline.

This is so dumb.

We could not be better placed to win a flag like we are this year.

Who knows what 2022 will bring so to think that we have a better chance in 2022 is simply ridiculous.

Well, thanks for your generous interpretation of my comment.

If Jones doesn't get a farewell game, there's a very strong likelihood the following 10 players will have played more finals than Jones in his entire career by the end of this finals series:

Brayshaw, Gawn, Harmes, McDonald, Neal-Bullen, Oliver, Petracca, Salem, Spargo, Viney

A lot can happen between now and a potential Grand Final, Nathan’s role is in the hands of the footy gods, and he’s right to prepare himself on the off chance they bless him with an opportunity to play.

Either way Nathan has done himself and our club proud.

Exactly.

He must know his chance of playing another game this year rides upon 2 or 3 currently in our 22 going down with injuries (washes mouth out)

Chunk giving it his all on the track also inspires and pushes his teamates to keep their spot. He's a leader by example.

A great story of a guy leaving no stone unturned. Good on him.

I'm never going to forgive the nuffies who didn't take Covid19 seriously. Nathan Jones having to choose between being with the team in Perth or the fabulous wife and imminent twins in Melbourne is just another reason.

Far from the worst thing going on, but it got under my skin perhaps because it is symbolic of the most common cost that we are all paying.

They have been talking up Jones for a few weeks now, I reckon he is locked in for the sub role this weekend.

That would mean either Jordon or Smith out. If we drop Smith then we are one back short, if we drop Jordon we replace him with a slower player = Jones. I don't think Jones plays, he could be a liability.

I think so too.

Has nothing to do with Smith.  Jones will just replace Jordan
