Jeez, imagine if this 17th placed team with 10 of their best 22 out were like us…enjoying a full fit list including some of the superstars of the game.

If you were to watch this game without knowing ladder position, you would 100% think the Hawks are #1 and we're #17, and the Hawks haven't put their foot down yet.

Garbage.

I wish we had a goal kicking coach!

Any chance Goodwin can start coaching and stop watching replays on an ipad!?

I've turned off, its unwatchable, we are not a top 4 team, don't let our ladder position fool you

I hate to say this… but something amazing will have to happen to not make this game a negative.

Bloody lamentable.

WTF is going on? Can anyone take a clean possession and if they do could someone give off cleanly to one of our guys in a position to do something positive? What a fricking mess that quarter was, no system, just a slog. Where are our A graders, Oliver and Tracc to get some system going?

Free kick hawthorn making a come back.
Don’t care if we win this tonight …. We cannot be serious about winning many finals this year. We crack under any sign of pressure on the ball. Every team can see this clear as day.

You've played like garbage but you need forget it, 1 quarter. Get in there and play like it means something for crying out loud.

We will have lost to 15th 16th 17th

Ducking idiots

Really disappointed in our leaders tonight, where lacking any composure at all and this is against a wooden spoon contender.

And people don’t think we should call Clarkson. The man is a genius. Getting out coached and out played badly.

The way we play week to week ...

Lets say as a hypothetical we won the flag this year.
I'd back it in we'd drop out've the 8 next year.
They players would decide they'd done enough and slacken right off.

Calling Clarkeson would be a ballsy move but I'd like it.
He wouldn't stand for that sheet.

Can’t blame the umpires here. Hawks are hungrier than us. Winning contested possession. Winning the tackle count. They’re working harder and deserve to be in front.

We should win still, but what a [censored] performance this has been. Coaches need to work out how to motivate the players. The mental fragility still exists.

Showing us up as probable pretenders tonight.  Good teams don't struggle this badly against a bottom two team.

Any chance we can kick to a lead?

I’ve seen losses where we’ve played better than tonight. [Censored] off Melbourne.

Obvious free kick to Lever.... NO FREE!!

Max Gawn and Tom Michell are a good combination out of the middle

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
