Nice to see Thursday night football back.

That Friday night fixture is underwhelming to say the least.

Port v Swans, our game and Eagles v Dogs are all way better

Huge game at the Gabba tonight. Hoping the Lions can get it done.

Tough game for the dogs v the eagles. I reckon home ground advantage swings it.

We need to account for the dons. If we do there's a good chance we're 2 games clear by the end of the round

Agree - all games are critical but this is exactly the type of game that a genuine contender will win - get it done MFC

We want Victorian teams to win and fill the top 3.

Agree

Hate to say it but a Geelong win would be good for us.

A Bulldogs loss is intriguing however.

Ugh I can't support Geelong. And I really like the Lions.

Would be great for Dogs to lose as well. Gives us some breathing room.

I'd much prefer to increase our chance of top 2 - and 2 home finals - than worry about interstaters in top 4.

Never mind 8 point games, this week is a 32 pointer!:mahoney2:

I'm glad the WC/dogs game got moved from a night game to twilight.  its a nice curtain raiser for the big event

I'll be cheering the bears on hard tonight. The Cats are really starting to get my goat

I'm the same, go Lions.

We need to beat the bummers and stop relying on other results

Masters of our own destiny. We can then sit back and watch the mad scramble below us.

My body is SO ready for a Thursday night footy event that promises to be a great clash.

A potential new record for "best set of ins" might be set today for West Coast. They've just recalled Jeremy McGovern, Luke Shuey, Tim Kelly, Brad Sheppard, Jack Petruccelle and Nathan Vardy.

YAY! Jason Bennett is in commentary tonight! He’s my fave.

Uh, we have Jack Viney in this week.

Cameron fitting in at Geelong well. Late dog acts off the ball.

Deliberately rode Lachie Neale into the ground.

Dirty, dirty team. Hopefully they don’t bother the scoreboard attendant any more than they are right now. ?

Absolutely loving this game right now. The Lions at the Gabba is the purest football I've seen this year. Melbourne must avoid that visit in finals.

Geelong are getting packed (thus far).

Love how the Lions are breaking them apart and exposing them for the pretenders they are.

How long till that unfairly judged ‘champion’ thug Selwood eye gouges someone?

Brisbane are winning because they have the pace to get to the ball carrier and tackle. That is our strength, even more than theirs. Players like Spargo, Kozzie, Hunt, ANB – all around the ground we have pace. Which might be the selection thinking this week – why Ben Brown is not getting a game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #31 Bayley Fritsch

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
