Interesting timing with Buckley stepping down but last week I was thinking about a Hibberd/Jetta replacement going forward and was thinking of Maynard and whether or not we'd have a crack at him, especially now given the unrest at the pies and with Buckley stepping down.

I've heard there a few unhappy mature-age players there and I know Maynard is friendly with some of our guys, Trac in particular from Metro days and obviously his brother Corey was on our list for a number of years.

Contracted until next end of next year but thought I'd throw it out there as I think he'd be a great fit and replacement for those guys I mentioned.

Tough, competitive and in the right system like ours I think he'd flourish.

Thoughts?

At 25, he's certainly in our age bracket.

Depending on cost I'd go there. I'd equally trust Taylor to get us a second or third round gem that could play a similar position, so cost would be important. No more than a second rounder.

Where have you been the last 6-8 months?

Darcy Moore can come provided he leaves his dad at Vic Park.....

I think he is a super player and would compliment our backline beautifully. I just can’t see Collingwood letting him go and doubt we Could afford him.

Absolutely we should be going after Maynard.

Remember also his old man works for Casey Demons already.

Great replacement for Hibberd.

I'm not convinced he's actually good. One of the great footy myths this bloke.

Great replacement for Hibberd.

The only Pie I think the team would be interested in/need .

Would be a great asset. Isn't Rivers primed to be the Hibberd/Jetta replacement though?

If we think of a healthy list for 2022 (and excluding Hibbo/Jetta for now): May, Lever, Tomo, Rivers, Salem, Hunt. I would then be looking at given game time to Bowey and Petty. So if we did bring in Maynard, who is he replacing from those 8 players?

would love him at the dees

future first round pick from 2022 would get it done OR - given that the filth are after 'points' for 2021 and picking nick daicos - would happily hand over the second round pick we currently 'own' (tied to brisbane) and third round pick (tied to hawthorn)

but i think he's easily worth a future first given he's only 24 and is a very, very good player

As important as a good lock down medium defender is I don’t think we can put more expensive resources in to a backline with May, Lever, Salem, Tomlinson and needing to keep Rivers and eventually Petty.

Probably have to target some cheap additions as well as look at Joel Smith/Deakyn Smith and an expanded defensive role for Hunt.

If we spend up on the backline it costs us either keeping or bringing in forward and midfield additions.

I don’t think we’d be getting full value from Rivers having him in the back pocket. Nor do I think he’d be that keen on that job. He spends half the game arguing with May and Hibbo.

From the current back 7 I’d imagine Hunt is first in line to move to a more defensive role.

While I rate Maynard, I don't see him as a priority, especially given what he'd likely cost us in a trade and in salary cap.

Jetta's replacement should come from one of Bowey, Deakyn Smith or even Lockhart.

As for Hibberd's replacement, we still have both Joel Smith and Marty Hore on the list.  And even Gus is an option for that role. He's shown himself to be capable in the backline, and we could possibly get another wingman like Richards from the Dogs for less which would allow Brayshaw to potentially move to the backline to fill the void left by Hibberd?

I'd be happy to stick with Marty Hore, that bloke played really well in what was a shocking 2019 side. Imagine how well he could play with this defence around him.

How unacceptable it is that someone isn't following the player satisfaction levels of mature age Collingwood players as closely as you are, and then has the nerve to ask a perfectly reasonable question in response to your assertions. Truly shocking.

I really like him as a player been watching him ever since he went head to head with Jesse Hogan in 2018 I think it was , didn't take a backward step that day despite the size difference

Good footballer, but not for us at this stage. He’d cost more than we’d want to spend in both trade value and his salary. Our defense is strong now, so best to focus our list build elsewhere as needed.

Definitely worth a look at the right price. He's the perfect age and has plenty of experience. But I agree with others that you shouldn't be paying too much salary or draft picks for a back pocket.

Not sure how far Deakyn Smith or Bowie are away from a debut. Defending at AFL level is, of course, much different to under 18s. And there's always Lockhart who just needs a decent run at it.

The way Hibbos playing I’d give him another 2 years, he’s been fantastic since coming back from injury

Maynard would not cost the earth in trade or coin. Is the perfect Hibberd/Jetta replacement. Is the right age bracket and style of player we like. Like Hibbo has some attacking bent but is a good not great kick but can play a serious lock down role something that we have lost with Jetta and will lose with Hibbo. Also gives us flex for Rivers to develop and possibly play midfield in stints in future years.

The way Collingwood leaked that the leadership group weren’t happy with Trelor is unforgivable. Whether it’s true or not is beside the point. Threw them under the bus!

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
