If Landon out then Baker in for mine otherwise No Change. Watching the replay Weid is so so close he just needs to hold those marks, should have taken at least 6 in the forward 50. He hit the pack hard but you have to hold them.

Melky hasn't enough output, not playing for 4 quarters, looking slow,  no longer winning 1 on 1's.

Not everybody plays 4 quarters.  There's 4 on the bench. Melksham plays the role he's given.

Rubbish.

Weid last night - 6 disposals, 5 marks, 1 tackle, 2.1 goals

Brown (at VFL level) - 4 disposals, 0 marks, 2 tackles, 0 shots at goal

We've waited so long to build a genuinely competitive culture and so many want to throw it out the window at first chance.

For every one of those marks there was a dropped one. And since when has "6 disposals" been something worth typing out?

Look, of course I want to see him succeed, but it's his lack of pressure-acts that get me fuming. He either doesn't have any leg-speed or cannot be bothered employing it at times when he has a genuine chance of running down or at the very least, being an obstacle to his opponent. Clangers happen, but applying pressure is something player has a choice in doing and he needs to choose to apply more.

6 disposals is worth mentioning when it's more than Brown managed to get at VFL level.

Also, Weid averages 2 tackles a game, Brown averages 0.67.

Weid averages 7 pressure acts a game, Brown averages 5.3.

I think Lockhart could come in and we try hunt and/or Rivers on the wing. Lockhart was much better than Baker in the last Casey game ( at least he got called heaps by commentators

No way we move defenders out of position when we look so solid

Baker in for Langers. Far from ideal but he played well as Casey last week

no other changes

In: Baker

Out: Langdon (I'm sure he's been concussed and will miss next week).

Weed is on the last game of this run for mine. He needn't kick 12 goals and clunk 17 marks. All I want is presence for an entire game.

Dogga and Tomald do not play like Johnno Brown or Wayne Carey on a weekly basis. However, you know they are thereabouts as they run to contests, make second efforts and are rewarded by said efforts by kicking one or two sausages a game.

Weed's got to have a game where I KNOW he is a presence at all times. If we don't see that next week, Brown comes in for an extended run of 5 to 7 weeks. Failing that, maybe we just need to reconcile ourselves to a smaller forward line.

I’ve been frustrated by Weideman’s very average performances. To his credit, he clunked two good marks against much smaller opponents and kicked two important goals. He also had the chance to show intensity by cleaning up Smith when he came back to spoil. Instead he went for a chest mark without his arms and hands up in front of himself and didn’t even put any body in Smith at all to make him feel it! It’s this lack of mongrel and his lack of intensity / urgency/ chasing (also mentioned by several others) that makes me wonder if he’ll make it long term.

Ah right didn’t know. Yeah rather we didn’t take any risks with him, he’ll be very important in September

For all you Hunt, Melksham, Gus and Fritta droppers week on week, I would have to say our worst player tonight was Salem. Shall we drop him?

Salem out, he was awful

Anyone in

Hows that?

hows that? hows one below par game vs consistent inconsistency thats why those players are debated when we want to make change. salem has runs on the board. for example, look at hunts last month 11D, 10, 14, 7 its inconsistent and often ineffective hence the debate

Bowey ...playing a first game in humid, slippery conditions may be a big ask.

Traeger Park under a humidifier dome, replete with Covid sanitising mists?

Can cop that, but after Brisvegas were gifted almost perpetual homeground advantage in 2020. On the way to a series of finals appearances.

A BIG NO!

We have done our stint of AFL enforced steamy slippery purgatory in Cairns.

Surely?

Neutral ground Gil and co or go to hell!

Sauce for the wing gig? Not meat  pie and 3 veg enough. Can a soufflé rise twice? If so add a vanilla soufflé sauce.

At half time the Weid seemed to be on the weed. Fortunately he was able to snap out of it and step back from the abyss... just.

Rant over with  more than a  nod to PK to PF!

Think it’s a tough selection this week. Do you bring in Baker for the run and gun ability or Sparrow for toughness or someone else? Don’t know yet, I’ll think about it.

Ground makes a difference too, was not too impressed with Weid last night but he is getting to the right spots and maybe just maybe those last two grabs got the confidence up. I’d just lean to keeping him in at this stage.

Whatever we do it needs to benefit our structure behind the ball first. With guys like Rich and Lyons and more it will be coming out from their back half quick and effectively.

Yeah I was probably a bit harsh on Weid earlier. Combination of being a bit cranky about this particular lockdown and perhaps enjoying a couple too many celebratory drinks last night. Agreed, he looks better on paper than Brown, but I guess overall I’m not comparing him to another under-performing player, but holding him to a higher standard. And what Brown will always have over Weid is that he’s a proven gun, and just needs to be reignited.

But I’m now willing to stick with Weid for longer than just one round ?. That was last night’s seventh wine talking.

Haha that's fair mate, we're all a bit ready to snap hey!

I agree Weid needs to impact more consistently, but the club talked during the week about liking the 3 talls so i think it's ended up a battle between Weid and Brown so they'll likely get their form compared the rest of the year. I think where we're at now though is having a hungry team who are picked on form as much as possible, so Brown is no different to anyone else on the list; needs to earn his shot. Didn't do himself any favours last week with a lacklustre showing. Being the proven player he is though; there's no doubt he can put it together pretty quickly, which keeps the pressure on Weid to perform.

I think Langdon is one of our most difficult players to replace. It also depends a bit on where the game is. Alice Springs and the Gabba have a lot of space. Giants Stadium is much tighter.

If we play at Alice Springs I would think about pushing Harmes out to the wing and Sparrow into the 22.

Jones would be an option at Giants Stadium.

I’m not really a fan of Baker.

Bowey could be an option also.

Yeah agree, JJ is fringe for them right now.

Of those you've mentioned though I reckon Dunkley, Treloar, Martin and Wood get back but I'm not sure if McLean or Vandermeer are best 22 for them.

Only the two goals for the Weid.

I thought his leading and contesting were good, but I agree that he didn't have a great game.

Who replaces him though? How does Brown, for example, get back in when he had 4 touches and no goals last week and doesn't play VFL this week?

Disagree I thought Weed contested and brought the ball to ground. If he can stick his marks wow, same with Jackson. I'd keep same team except for forced change Langdon who I reckon has been such a shrewd recruit.

Not really when you look at it in the context of selection.

Brown dismal at VFL level.

Weid inconsistent but kicked two important goals and has the clear edge over the player competing for the same spot currently.

I don't want to hear anyone calling for Weid out for Brown to ever try to talk about culture or competition for spots.

Id prefer Bb but Sam gets another game. The club cant just keep swapping them about .

Besides we did get a brief glimpse of Weids skill with thos two goals.

Hopefully he can build on that.

We won with a few players not at their best in Jackson, Kozzie, Hunt, Salem and even Langdon was a tad quiet.

Hopefully no injuries so ...no changes.

On a side note...so much focus has been on Trac as our superstar but for me its Oliver by a country mile.

Great player trac but Oliver  another level   (love both of them)
