Steven May admitted in the post match that the defence wasn't on for the crows game and it helped them re-set.  We all saw it and he's on the money IMO.  And Friday was an 8 point game for us, with the Dogs going to beat plenty in the remainder of the season

Not sure why, but the volyme of the commentary is way down compared to the full replay and the on ground sounds way up. Its really interesting to hear the players and boy the hits sound big.

Progressively, the attention that the Dees receive in the media has been extremely scant. Once on top of the ladder approximately half-way through this season, nothing has changed with lauded praise for the Doggies, Carlton, Geelong and all the interstate teams outside of Melbourne. 

This disregard - and that is all it could be called - has its origins in the attiutudes and preferences of the AFL itself, mirrored in the umpiring we receive first hand from the alleged 'rule experts', otherwise known in many circles as the 'snot goblins'; and, they do live up to their name.

What we receive in the second hand is the oversight of our Club in the media who would support maximised moment-to-moment populations of the 'popular' clubs (and thus, the subsequent advertising revenues heavily proferred) attending to repeated coverage of such popular clubs and the [censored]-fringe addicted to the toothless praise of opportunists and bias-laden content.

We become familiar with the drivel and its intent. Over time, such is the way of the Demon - left navigating a topography of exclusive neglect. The Kangaroos have the same problem, interspersed with occasional comment for success, albeit very unreliably anticipated. 

We ARE on top of the ladder. We receive minimal coverage for this. We are on our way to a Premiership play-off and it is most likely at this point of the season, we will prevail against the odds and win the bluddy Cup. Still, do not expect a fanfare in celebration of our footballing success to date, in future weeks of the fixture, nor in the GF from either the media or the AFL, nor the snot goblins on gamedays who will always keep the MFC handicapped so that we do not win matches too easily. Rules are rules, as we all accept. Rulings by umpires are another matter for another cause.

These are additional reasons why our hearts beat true.

Yeah... I disagree with you on this one Rusty. 

To be honest, I can't recall our last win on a Friday night and then what the subsequent media saturation was like, but I'd imagine it's already had a day to be dissected in many other outlets elsewhere, hence Channel 9, or wherever you get your consumption of football from have made a call that it's out of the 24hour news cycle.

However, I would be surprised if on AFL360 there isn't a bit of a dissection from Gerard.

I also disaagree about an 'anti' Melbourne bias. I think things fall the way of larger clubs, and sometimes (or lots really) towards the home ground advantage, but that's not anti Melbourne, that's just favourtism (implicit?) towards the bigger clubs.

But mate, we see what we want to see.

Tony Jones said he received a text message from an angry Neil Mitchell and assured viewers they were going to review the game in full later on and there would be an interview with a Melbourne player. Then, nothing! It’s a disgrace the lack of respect for the team on top of the table. They are still happy to heap praise on the Dogs who “will learn from the loss and be better for it”. Billy keeps reminding everyone that Geelong will be there on Grand Final day, despite them playing the ugliest game in years yesterday. We are getting next to no attention. It doesn’t fit the narrative. We’ve been a media punching bag for years.

I watch it on demand and just fast forward to all the game reports and maybe a little news discussion. Takes 75% of the time :)

I wish they'd drown out BT &Co by the umpires all the time.  I said before they probably don't do this for fear of broadcasting players swearing, but I didn't hear any swearing when I watched the Kayo mini (first half).

I agree with RN. I’m not a conspiracy theorist nor am I paranoid. What I use as a gauge if you will is what my friends who barrack for a team other than the Dees are saying. Lately it’s been along the lines of, “you’d think you guys would be getting way more media attention since you’re on top of the ladder.” And these are Richmond and Collingwood and even Essendon supporters!

More telling though, is what I hear from neutrals. Couple of weeks back, can’t remember which round it was, we were still unbeaten and on the channel seven nightly news report, sports bit, the first since our most recent win, I wasn’t in the room watching it. But... my son was. He has zero knowledge  of footy and even less interest and having watched it, said, “Geez mum, your team just won yet another game, and they’ve (channel seven) spent more time talking about some Collingwood player squeezing his teammate’s bum.” Like I said, very telling.

I actually don't care though. Keep undnerstimating the Dees and send the hype elsewhere.

Well, it was a response to RNs claims of deliberately biased umpiring against us (he’s yet to substantiate his claim that the umpire admitted he intentionally didn’t pay the deliberate OOB free). On the ladder of free kick differentials, at round 8 we were 5th with more frees in our favour than against (+15), whereas Richmond were 18th... my point is, we’ve been well looked after when it comes to free kicks.

It’s been done to death, but last week’s game was not decided my free kicks alone, as we should never have been in a position where they could have an influence on the outcome. In some ways I don’t mind that those calls went against us, as the end result was a much needed wake-up call for us.

I watch the replay from the AFL website yesterday on my laptop and worked fine. 

As you probably know by now I have had trouble enjoying games waiting for the expected crash to come. So far so good with no crash yet. However I am really enjoying a sunny Sunday afternoon in the knowledge  that we won again on Friday night, sit atop the ladder and the supporters of the other  teams can worry about winning and the deficiencies of the players. Suffer guys. All I need now is the hated for our arrogance.

I really don't get this whole media/umpire/AFL hatred conspiracy theory stuff.

We've had more media than most sides this year. Heaps of articles, podcast/video discussions. It's been way, way up on previous years.

If we're not getting coverage on Sunday that might be because there were five games played yesterday and we got covered yesterday before any of them had been played.

I reckon this is a really good point. 

Which is one reason why I thought the no crowd might help us. People will underestimate the value of the win because there wasn't the big crowd buzz

The dees have long been the but of jokes. And our game plan and model means of our games are often arm wrestles and ate not flashy.

And it is harder to appreciate good defensive systems than strong offensive ones - particularly on tv

We get a buffer and squeeze teams., unlike the dogs who look so exciting when they get on top.

Happy to fly under the radar. Whichbis no mean feat  at 10-1 and 4 points clear on top of the ladder.

If you want to hide under a blanket that's your choice.  Last week's two non-decisions toward the end effectively cost us the match.  But let's pretend it never happened.  All will be well if we just close our eyes and pray!

There's possessions and there are 'Dynamic Possessions' ... this measurement is used in soccer but the eyes have it,  rather than some sort of list with numbers all over the place

For instance, Salem, May & T-Mac stand out to me with regards to using the ball well but other players such as Pickett, Oliver & Petracca (but not all the time with those 2) use it well.  As well as any forward who kicks 3 or more goals (in todays footy) ... Fritsch against North stands out

And Melksham.  I'm wondering if many here simply look at the numbers rather than what he does with the ball when he gets it.  Usually uses it very well as he did against the Bulldogs

He certainly has faults in his game but so do quite a few others.  And there isn't an embarrassment of riches in the 2's

Yes layzie we do similar we record it and then fast fwd to the Dee’s content, very disappointed this mornings efforts.
