Northern Summer 292 Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 (edited) Weideman definitely fits in better than Brown with our game plan and structure. Just more flexible. Edited May 16, 2021 by Northern Summer 7 Quote
Bleeds_Red_&_Blue 172 Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 Gawn - held some marks Oliver - more clearances please Jordon - provides good pressure Salem - continues impressive season Langdon - always an asset McDonald - excellent kicking accuracy Harmes - holds his spot Neal- Bullen - solid and reliable Brayshaw - kicking is appauling Petracca - learning his limits Hunt - was better today Lever - our most important Fritsch - one important goal May - beaten by McKay Pickett - provides incredible run Rivers - holds his own Spargo - better each game Hibberd - solid all game Weideman - should kick those Petty - covering Tomlinson nicely Brown - provided a target Chandler - is on notice 2 Quote
BW511 2,730 Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 Reckon T-Mac owes Brown at least 2 goals from today where he picked his pocket. Weid provided some big contests in the first half including a big grab deep in the Carlton forward half. The mix of T-Mac, Brown and Weid will be very difficult to nut out as there were multiple occasions where they led to the same spot and spoiled each other. Also, not sure why it happened but what was Max doing drifting back in front of them? 3 Quote

He is FAR more versatile. Applies more pressure, moves up and down the ground more/better, get's himself in more contests, is better under his knee's. The acquisition of BB after 2019 would've been a knee jerk reaction, but would've made sense. The acquisition of BB after 2020 just didn't make any sense. 2 Quote
Craig Hutchinson 126 Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 Another game we could have won by 10 goals . Have not looked at the stats but watching the game BOG to May and very even from there , a good team performance . Lever , Christian's , Kosi and 10 others impressive . The whole team looks strong and we out numbered them at most contests . Will check how many holding the ball decisions as felt I yelled ball a lot . No DAM BELL RINGING before the game . Missed my AC/DC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1 Quote

Gus officially had 10 clangers today, only 1 tackle and just 66 ranking points (Oliver 140, Langdon 110 for scale). That is a horrendous waste of 26 possessions. I can't see how you can think he's possibly improved? 1 Quote
I'va Worn Smith 996 Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 Yes, Gus' disposal was wasteful, but I thought he was terrific today. Brown? Needs some space. If you play a forward like him deep, then they need the space to run in to on the lead. Brown was not given that space and too often, our forwards spoiled each other. To me, May and Lever were sensational. Langdon good, but not up to his best. Salem? The backline general. So underestimated. Petracca? Clearly, to me, he was playing sore. That said, so much for my prediction that he would not play today. Both Max and Kozzie are either carrying an injury, or they are just tired. Neither were at their best. Charlie Spargo? I am loving his cameos more and more We won and I am happy for that, but list 'management' will need to come soon, so that we are at our peak come finals time. 2 Quote
Forest Demon 4,681 Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 I actually thought Oliver made a few very good short kicks inside 50 from congestion that hit targets and led to goals. Yet again, I feel like he has been underrated by his very own supporters. 5 2 Quote
I'va Worn Smith 996 Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 Umpires? 3 words? FFS. We just want consistency. The sling tackle on Hunt needs to be looked at by the MRO. No free, but very dangerous. JH was lucky not to be concussed. 1 Quote
RalphiusMaximus 6,112 Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 I just wish Oliver would sort out his goalkicking. It's the only aspect of his game that's missing. Quote
Mel Bourne 4,541 Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 I thought Langdon was better than “some useful endeavour”. 4 1 Quote

Don't speak too soon We don't know what is up ahead! WE have 30/32 players that are AFL worthy and some will vary vs different teams. 1 Quote

Much better, and I think with Mark Williams we can fix this. I just watch and constantly admire Oliver in particular but gee he could be more damaging. But he does his job in spades and courage and endeavour is first class. Currenttly second in the Age voting. 1 Quote

tiers 2,883 Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 Oliver's kicking needs some refinement. He has to decide whether he is a "long bomber" in which case the forwards should adjust or if the is to be a "straight passer" which will also require an adjustment. At the moment he/we are not sure. He has shown before that he can pass with long bombs but it requires the forwards to lead to space. As for Brayshaw. His kicking was poor but his kick selection was worse. He should be reminded that the goals are the big sticks at the end of the ground, not in the grandstand, and kick in their direction. In fact most of the team should be reminded as too many kicks are directed deep into the pockets. Salem is a gem. Lever and May, as a unit, are clearly the two best key positions backs I have seen for decades. Hunt, Hibbert, Petty and Rivers fill any and all gaps and Brayshaw and Langdon provide key support when needed. Roos' defensive planning finally coming to maturity. Quote

As we get to to the pointy end in a year when we are a real threat there will come a point when they they will have to make a change. To win big matches under pressure you cant carry guys like this.
