Apologies to Gawn (workhorse), Fritsch (cameo) and Rivers (saved the day on many occasions), as well as Kozzie (who threatened but broke even on the dangerous Saad).

That's about it I reckon

Apologies to langdon, jj and tmac.

Rivers killing it in the backline just quietly. Doesn't get the same plaudits as his fellow draftees in Jackson and Pickett but has been equally as impressive in my opinion.

I watched the replay when I got home and have a totally different view if some players now.

While you get a far better idea of the running patterns at the game, you do miss a lot.

The two contributions I missed most were Trac and Brayshaw.

Trac was excellent and Brayshaw's good work far outweighed the bad (turnovers). If Gus can get his disposal in order, a big game is just around the corner. His read of the game is elite.

Too hard to place in order. So give 3 votes to Salem and then 2 votes each to Lever, May, Oliver, McDonald, Neal-Bullen, Spargo, Hunt, Jordon, Petracca and Langdon. Total 21 votes.

How good is it when the teams performance is so even with multiple contributors.

I think that order is pretty good.

Although I doubt the coaches would have Gawn that high. We as supporters love him but tend to give him votes even when he probably doesn’t deserve it. I think he’s carrying a niggle that stops him from asserting some physical presence at times.

Was watching Jordan pretty closely and I found myself reflecting on Scotty Thompson when he played for us. Not to say that JJ has the ceiling of Scotty, but I feel very safe when he’s lurking around a clearance that he won’t let the ball exit too easily and hurt us. Much like Scotty used to do in his MFC days and Jnr McDonald after that.

I meant just our coaches. I don’t think he’s impacted the games as much as a couple of other Dees.

But your point is well made.

Definitely not enough love for Trent Rivers in 2021

That's not necessarily the case, just its a systemic weakness of the fixed 6-5-4-3-2-1 system that you can play well and not receive votes in good team performances and conversely receive votes for mediocre - or worse - games in lesser team performances.  Obviously also when multiple players play equally well, you have the issue that there is a massive difference between five votes and one vote when in reality there isn't such a difference in output.   Obviousy the best solution is we all score every player each week out of 10, but that obviously presents its own issues and likely isn't manageable.  But in terms of Rivers, he plays well but is probably our 12th, on average, best player each week.  In this system, thats of no value unfortunately.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

It was only a preseason match but the new look Demons spearheaded by new coach Steven King looked impressive as they put on a clinic against perennial cellar-dwellers North Melbourne as they cruised to an 80 point victory at Casey Fields.
