James Jordon Re-Signs Until 2023

I love this kid, thanks James Jordon and MFC for doing the right thing by the kid. J J will become a Rigoni / Leonchelli type player for us, just playing his role at present but has skills and courage to become a great link man for us. Does that mean he has been elevated to senior list??

Jackson has already extended to end of 2022

And so has Petracca but Melbourne supporters have the constitution of an infant with hand foot and mouth so here we are...

Very pleased.  Because we delisted him and made him a rookie in 2020 he would have been an FA this year and gone anywhere.

Great to see our investment in and support through injury of another youngster yielding rewards for him and the club.

I bet that Melbourne is working to extend the contracts of both Trac and Jackson as we speak.

I know they are signed until the end of next year, but that will come around very quickly, and if we are to target someone like Merrett in the off season, we need to re-sign as many of our top players as we can so we can assess where our salary cap is at.

Very big call but I think you are correct.

I'm expecting @demonstone to pop up more than once in this thread.

I've seen Jordon's contract and it includes a clause that stipulates that he gets a $100 bonus each and every time somebody spells his name wrong.

I mean, it's great that he's signed and all that, but this is going to send the Club broke.

To me, the following quotes from the MFC announcement epitomize the way  JJ is now playing for us:

"James has worked diligently on all parts of his game, and is now getting reward for his hard work"

" he is a really mature young man with a terrific attitude"

Not all players can be stars, but diligence, hard work and the right attitude can take you a long way!

He’s a lifetime free agent is he? Every time he comes out of contract he can choose where he goes, good luck to him!

Obviously he has a big tank and is strong for a young player but I reckon there’s a fair bit more to work on building his power and explosiveness too. He might not be Tracc or Oliver but he’ll be a handful to tackle or go get tackled by.

They’ve kept his game time low and just asked him to do his job. Moved him around with some wing and forward minutes and the centre square stuff. He’s made a great start.

Nice comparison.

Important players in their own rights.

technically as this season is his first on the rookie list a 2yr deal could mean he stays as a rookie and then gets upgraded at the end of that? or can rookies only sign 1yr deals? OR have we just decided to upgrade him again at the end of the season since we now know how many picks we're allowed to take and still baring in mind list sizes will shrink again at seasons end by possibly 2

I must admit to hardly ever noticing him in the game telecasts.  He seems to just slip under the radar and just goes about his job.

How much of a luxury has it been being able to have these young players just simmer away in the background and develop in their own time instead of being put in the cauldron too early in their career? Jimmy is a great example. Comes in and looks pro from day one, but in reality has put in a tonne of work to get here. Awesome.

I wonder if he'll end up being better than both, injuries notwithstanding. Injuries really cruelled Rigga and to a lesser extent, Andrew.

That is just terrible salary cap management!!

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
